I don't get this genre, isn't it just Prog Rock?
Why is Mark Hollis considered first wave? Is it because it's in the vein of Talk Talk? It was released in 1998 after all.
It's non-rock music played with typical rock instruments.
listen to something that isn't GY!BE or EITS and you'll figure out the difference. Try, like, Spiderland.
>how do I get into post rock
>posts image that tells you how to get into post rock
Mama Mia
From first wave check out
Laughing Stock
Spiderland
Hex
Soundtracks for the Blind
From the second wave check out
Both Godspeed You! Black Emperor albums
()
Mi Media Naranja
Fuck everything else it's overrated garbage.
He's acting if the image is good/accurate you fucking troglodyte
it's a pretty good start, there's a mega folder around somewhere with essential 90's postrock thats real nice
slint is on the line between a couple of genres so don't expect a lot more like them in here, same with a minor forest. start with talk talk and tortoise, check out GYBE after that, and then just do whatever.
shit taste detected
personally I got into post-rock with mogwai
give young team a listen and move around their discog from there
any1 have that mega?
>attention whoring with "look guys I am grill!"
>accuses me of shit taste
Yeah...you got no clue about anything, babe. Post Rock is mostly irredeemable bar a couple releases. Definitely works to some extent to show off to guys that you like other stuff in the genre to appear like a girl who knows her shit. But it won't work on an expert like me.
meme
oh ho you're so cool
Do you know what is on this mega? And are they flac, mp3 etc?
pretty sure they're mp3
there's a lot to check out in the genre and it's pretty varied so have fun
Is soundtracks for the blind on there? Sorry to bother you but I'm on my phone and I can't check it just linksme to download an app.
Its good but you miss the best Bark Psychosis song but just following that route
youtube.com
Definitely, although please add to it TNT by Tortoise and not just MNLWND. MNLWND is fantastic but TNT in a lot of ways sounds more in tune with other post-rock. At least that's how I feel.
Its funny how some edgy pseudo-intellectuals still try to encage these bands into one "genre" and its "waves".
Several of the bands in that pic sound pretty different, and, in fact, sound a lot more like other bands generely regarded with other genres. What these type of labeling does is misguide listeners instead of actually serve the purpose of guiding the listener.
Swans & toe for example, dear lord.
yeah it's there
here's everything on there and don't worry about it man
yeah the labels are kinda bullshit i would hardly even put slint on a post rock chart since they sound damn near nothing like any of the others
to be fair you can hear Slint's influence on Mogwai
>152▶
>
>to be fair you can hear Slint's influence on Mogwai
But this does not mean at all that Slint is post-rock
i mean yeah kinda but still they're more post-hardcore/slowcore kinda with some tinges of what would turn into post rock
damn good but still doesn't fit all that well
Essential First Wave should be this:
Laughing Stock
Transient Random Noise Bursts
Upgrade and Afterlife
Soundtracks for the Blind
Spiderland
D.I. Go Pop
Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Magnog s/t
China Gate
Hex
Dry Stone Feed
Lungo i Bordi
Houdini
Quique
Infrantumi
Don Caballero 2
The Sea and the Bells
The Stars are So Big, the Earth is So Small... Come as You Are
Acquatica
aye, that's the folder I uploaded onto mega
Speaking of, anymore like Spiderland? The only thing I can think of is Indian Summer.
listen to Tropics and Meridians by June of 44.
In addition to June of 44 like the other guy said listen to Rusty by Rodan
Thanks heaps!
Yep, just crop out the Third Wave section and every album on there is essential listening
>Don Cab
>post-rock
nigga what
rodan - rusty
june of 44
a minor forest
shipping news
unwound kinda
i found this kinda helpful, but it's not chronological if that's how you want to get into the genre.
there's a chart for this too actually
I love you
Wow this is helpful. I've only listened to bitch magnet out of all of those.
thanks famalam
>oh ho you're so cool
dat bitch got rekt
It developed from it (and Krautrock).
Their sound is really different, it's its own genre
Nice generalization edge lord
It actually makes me angry how uninspired 3rd-wave is, every day I'll check out an album from the WorldHasPostRock channel and they're always just so bland. I can count on one hand the 3rd-wave albums that I'd consider worth repeated listens. You'd think that with technology more readily available and 20+ years of post-rock to go off of, they'd be able to make something that's not either Explosions In the Sky covers or mindless crescendos.
>gastr de sol
>disco inferno
>tortoise
>overrated
Magnog is underrated, but what makes it post-rock and not space rock?
>tortoise
>overrated
Yes
I personally find disco inferno overrated
>Toe
>overrated
slint has a lot of different elements to it, hints of post-rock, math rock as well, some post-hardcore at bits.
add Lowercase - The Going Away Present and Sofa - Grey to it.
>Liked Talk Talk and Tortoise
>Hated Mt. Zion
Guess its purely first wave for me.
Hey I made that a while ago now. Neat.
Also added The For Carnation's s/t, and Shipping News' Antebellum.
I mean Shipping News' One Less Heartless To Fear whoops.
