these are some of my favorite "tighter" Beefheart tracks, honestly all of his albums are great to fantastic other than his 2 commercial albums he did

Start with Safe as Milk. It's a great and not very weird blues rock album. It's also accessible and pleasant sounding, unlike TMR.
