Do americans truly believe this?
Hahaha I know english, therefore I have no need to learn other languages

>Do all Anglos* truly believe this?
Yes because it's true
I'll never have to speak your disgusting pig language so long as I live
Well, most Americans think they don't need another language when they speak Spanish.
então você nunca vai saber o que eu estou falando meu caro amigo gordo, e eu vo sempre saber o que você está falando :D
>changing it into anglos
>implying
Half of the Canadians don't need another language when they speak French.
>Canadians all speak French
No we don't
It's a meme language for meme people
who /Japanese + english masterrace/ here?
I don't think English covers anime, manga, hentai very much.
Vast majority of Americans will never come in contact with someone who doesn't speak English, and if they do the chances of them actually having to interact with them is low.
>Vast majority of Americans will never come in contact with someone who doesn't speak English
I'm trying, but learning a whole new alphabet is sort of giving me troubles.
Plan on studying abroad in Akita sometime before I graduate so that I can take Japanese there for my foreign language credit. Still want to learn it pretty well before I go.
It's true
>inb4 CHICANOs
If a Chicano doesn't speak english they tend to get some hate or frustration from Americans.
If Americans go abroad they usually find people who speak english to talk to as well.
Only a few countries that matter are actually challenging to find English speakers in.
Most Americans will also never leave the states (Going to Canada doesn't count).
does Japanese deserve that unless you are a hyper weeaboo?
yah. whenever i have to travel for business they either speak english or i get my own set of translators to bring around. sometimes we just communicate in gestures, especially at the yamaha factory.
Well when your born in a 1st world western nation and you speak the official language of that nation you in fact do NOT need to learn a second language in order to live a comfy, successful life.
Maybe if you live in the sticks and never leave. "Vast majority" is just untrue.
I plan to go into the more media side of Computer Science. The only countries that I could benefit from learning a language in would be Japan or Russia.
Maybe China, but most business with China is done in english anyways. I suppose it wouldn't be bad to be the token white guy in a Chinese company though.
>If a Chicano doesn't speak english they tend to get some hate or frustration from Americans.
I've been to your country m8, people were amazed that I could speak English so well, even a middle aged family man tried to speak spanish with me. Also there are literally spanish sign posts in some places like Target and other shit. An asshole girl even tried to speak fast to confuse me kek, because since I was from a Latin Country supposedly I didn't know English
Where besides a city with an international airport does one have to interact on a regular basis with people who don't speak english?
>Where besides a city with an international airport does one have to interact on a regular basis with people who don't speak english?
literally 20% of our country is composed by latin american immigrants m8
>tfw learning new language but probably will never use it
Oh well, we're living in an increasingly globalized world.
>>tfw learning new language but probably will never use it
there are generals literally for that, also travelling, music, reading books, you say that because you are a lazy faggot
I don't believe it but it's true
I'm curious, are you talking about people who aren't fluent in English or are you talking about people who legitimately speak 0 English? I agree the latter is rare in the US as a whole but even in small cities I've run into people with poor English skills.
It's also worth nothing I live in the Southwest and am relatively fluent in Spanish.
There is no need though. You should learn another language if you can, but it's more of a luxury.
Well Anglos practically know 60℅ latin
Well I don't have a need to learn another language apart from Portuguese too
Well it really is pretty true, we don't actually NEED to learn other languages. Some of us enjoy studying languages anyway though and I think it's part of a well-rounded education. Americans who never learn a word of another language will probably go their whole lives not being inconvenienced by this, though.
>Americans who never learn a word of another language will probably go their whole lives not being inconvenienced by this, though.
You could say the same towards anyone of other countries too m8
Aren't people in Brazil and the rest of South America pretty well advised to learn English these days? I wouldn't think it would be mandatory but it does seem like you'd be inconvenienced if you didn't.
I really don't know what it's like in Brazil, but you're probably right. For Europeans on the other hand, I would say it is necessary.
>Aren't people in Brazil and the rest of South America pretty well advised to learn English these days?
Advised yes, just like in America they are advised to learn Spanish, but you can literally live your life really easily without learning it, which by the way most brazilians live that way
Yes I believe this. Look at how many of you bother to learn English. Look at how much Internet we have out there - and how little else there is on the Internet.
I'd rather English wasn't forced down everyone's throats DESU. It'd rather it wasn't this way. But as it is it's really easy to be lazy. Learning a foreign language would be interesting but what would be the point? Even the Injun languages around here every one of them also speaks English.
>Learning a foreign language would be interesting but what would be the point?
yes cause English totally englobes every culture worldwide amirite
The ubiquity of the English language, combined with Americans' widespread paranoia that foreign forces are working to undermine their internal unity and economic hegemony, create a culture that is hostile to both foreigners who are not fluent in English and natives who try to learn other languages.
i cashier at a walmart in central tx, at least 2 or 3 times a week i'll check out mexican(s) who dont know any english whatsoever. makes counting back change and saying have a nice day awkward and whatnot.
once had an old mexican couple come to the self checkout and they clearly had no idea how to use it, and barely knew any english. they handed me their items expecting me to scan them, and i couldnt really explain to them how self checkout works since they couldnt really understand much of what i was saying.
i once checked out a mexican woman and (what i assumed to be) her ~10 year old son. the mom didnt seem to know any english, but her son spoke english perfectly and kept translating everything i said back to his mom in spanish, and everything she said in spanish back in english to me. found it a little bizarre, though i know that learning a new language is best done at an early age like that
but it's true for most of them, it will be waste of time what gives nothing
>englobes
