Become a John Peel-ophile
There was a massive surge in british post-punk bands from 1976-1986 who wallowed in the underground for a few years and then dropped off the map, but Peel did a lot to create a huge catalogue of bands who more often than not released only a few singles, you can find complete lists and recordings of his sessions online
Google post-punk flowchart and spend the next year of your life locked away trying to listen to it all.
Has there ever been a video interview with Ian Curtis?
lol
Listen to The Fall
Cruisers creek
No bulbs
Fantastic Life
Middle Mass
Lie Dream Of Casino Soul
Couldnt get ahead
Spoilt victorian child
My new house
Might take a few listens to get into them, but once you do start to understand the fall you wont be disappointed.
Go through everything on RYM charts
Listen to gothic rock if you want something darker
Listen to new wave if you want something poppier
Echo and the Bunnymen
Psychedelic Furs
Public Image Ltd.
Bauhaus
Sisters of Mercy
Killing Joke (early)
I've listened to pic related. where do I go from here
...
Pere Ubu
Gang Of Four
The Pop Group
The list just goes on and on...
Why did Poland have such great post-punk scene?
>Listen to gothic rock if you want something darker
Honestly now, if you really want darker post-punk, go to industrial.
Just listen to the most suggested shit in this thread.
The Fall are fucking pretentious and boring
I could never get into the Fall.
Anyone know of bands with drums like HANL?V
Don't listen to these fags. Like 75% of post-punk is complete shit
Good post-punk bands:
Pere Ubu
the Slits
the Raincoats
the Ruts
Public Image Ltd
Gang of Four
Wire
anything no wave
any New York disco-punk
anything from the original NY punk scene that's now called post-punk/new wave (Television, Talking Heads, Blondie, etc)
Bad post-punk bands:
Joy Division
Bauhaus
Killing Joke
Magazine
Siouxie and the Banshees
Echo and the Bunnymen
really any English "neo-psychedelia"
the Pop Group
and any post-punk after like 1982 is complete bullshit
"Pretentious" can be easily said about the fall. You could also say the same thing for Joy Division.
Mark E Smith never attempts to impress XD
only a short radio interview IIRC.
>Good post-punk bands:
>anything no wave
DROPPED
at least no wave is conceptually interesting if not enjoyable to listen to
>having this awful tsate
Commit sudoku immediately
>this is what American hipsters believe
The Slits are literally The Pop Group, but with an even less competent band and worse production.
>Brits seriously think their precious goth/Manchester/psychedelic post-punk is good
Women's public strain is the best guitar album of the decade. Pat Flegel went on to make Cindy Lee which is good if you enjoy the noise and drone bits from PS
Viet Cong/Preoccupations are good too but are a little more by-the-numbers
Better than boring new wave that hipsters here love to circlejerk over
>it has reveb and """poetic""" lyrics so it must be arty!11
>new wave??? ugh too boring for me
Seriously don't recommend recent albums to someone who wants to get into a genre
Recent albums tend to have less magic and feel more formulaic, the classics are classics for a reason.
>the pop group
>bad
End yourself.
Why did post-punk revival end up as such a failure killing British rock music?
Almost all bands released solid debut, ok 2nd album and then disappeared.
The only decent bands that rose from the scene were Interpol, The National and Franz Ferdinand.
Retard
British rock sucks 90% of the time anyways
I'm fine with you Britbongs sticking to dance and grime
nice comeback
>Sup Forums hates Editors, Futureheads and Arctic Monkeyts because they copy old bands and don't bring anything new
>they piss themselves over Viet Cong, Iceage and Protomartyr
this desu, why is a band copying from experimental post-punk better than a band copying from popular post-punk?
I said get the fuck off this thread already dumb Amerifat
Speak for yourself, I hate all those bands.
Great post, disregard upset faggots who like t shirt core post punk.
these
Strongly suggesting Echo and the Bunnymen, The Sound, and Public Image Ltd.
You realise that post-punk is limited and move onto some nxt lvl shit
Orange Juice
Nice samefagging hipster faggot
Look at this fucking poser
I try to stay out of scene threads, but what do post-punk listeners think of Swell Maps? I've been listening to their two LPs for about a week now.
"Poser" look at this fucking loser..
Tryhard contrarian
not much to say, it's just noisy punk x krautrock
Not really as good as later noise rock but pretty influential
>contrarian
none of the bands I said were bad were really critically respected except maybe the Pop Group
Put them off for long but gave them another chance on a whim, very good. I tend to put on Jane from Occupied Europe whenever I want time to pass, those 42 minutes feel like 20.
>none of the bands I said were bad were really critically respected
Wow yoiu are seriously stupid
loling at these Britshit memepunk lovers
>none of the bands I said were bad were really critically respected except maybe the Pop Group
>joy division
>memepunk
keep making an idiot out of yourself
the official memepunk chart volume 1
Muh nigga
Jesus fucking christ.
>Killing Joke
>bad
They're only the BEST fucking Post Punk band ever.
Post your address so I can come break your jaw.
All great albums
Fuck off contrarian idiot
"meme punk"
Good god, who says this sort of crap XD.
No one is safe to listen to what they like, pseudo intellectuals of MU will tell you other wise!
The best post-punk band is a metal band, huh funny how that works
No they actually aren't
stop being buttblasted that I called out your shit taste
You can still have shit taste, I won't stop you
Jesus christ. You are literally too stupid to argue with.
Obviously you've never listened to this
Oh yeah their shitty pop album
I have, it was shit, would not listen again
Or this
Try to know what the fuck you're talking about before you try to impose your pathetic little opinions.
>not closer
>not kaleidoscope
>not ocean rain
Well then make another memepunk chart
What's wrong with Pop Group? I actually agree with the rest of that list but Pop Group are definitely on the good side.
Well which is it penis puffer? First they were metal. Now they're pop?
Guy doesn't have a fucking clue.
Art Bears - The World As It Is Today
youtube.com
This Heat - Deceit
youtube.com
Lemon Kittens - We Buy A Hammer For Daddy
youtube.com
The Work - Rubber Cage
youtube.com
the Pop Group are very pretentious and they never seemed to figure out who or what they wanted to be
The music and lyrics are obnoxiously distant, intellectual, academic and it just fucking sucks
woah they have albums that are different genres that's cool
>Q:A:
Was actually agreeing with you before this, you fucking piece of shit
good for you now go listen to cardiacs or something
Do yourself a favor OP and listen to pic related
Still waiting on that address...
kys
post-punk fans once again proves to be one of the worst genre fanbases behind metal and punk
Yup. You sure did prove that.
lmao would love to know what your favorite albums are
"buttblasted" "butthurt" to cringey for you ?
I like 3 albums in your collection there you moron, i'm not angry at all. I'm enjoying your hilarious meme sense of humour!
Yes, you just did
well I already know yours
See his first shitpost
not even on that chart, but there are generally some pretty good post punk albums
why do joy division get so much fucking hate? is it just bc they're tumblr-core now?
They've always been entrylevel plebcore.
Wow, what?
What on earth are you talking about.
Listen to Silver Apples, the band that started it all.
What better stuff can you rec?
Love their first two albums, but I don't think you can say a pre-punk band started post-punk.
I can see that, but i cant get over how much they sound like Joy Division with Oscillations.
That's because Joy Division is derivative.
>Gang of Four
>Good
>Killing Joke
>Bad
wew
Wouldn't exactly call the Ruts post punk
>le list goes on
What's the poppiest post-punk there is?
Youre a fucking idiot if you dobt think TOTBL and Public Strain rival the classics.
