Challenge fucking accepted, gimme a minute
what are you playing?
Oh comely
Get fucked
Sailing Through.
Pree Sisters Swallowing a Donkey's Eye
Chocolate Coffin
instrument
not a song, friendo.
this
what
Untitled
it doesn't have any singing; it's not a song.
two headed boy
>Instrumental songs don't exist
>Whenever the singer stops singing, a song stops being a song, until the vocals resume
this has the bait
here's Sailing Through, friends
Unborn/Candy Coated Dream
>instrumental songs
are you talking about Shubert's songs without words?
cause they're not songs, they're pieces.
not bait, someone doesn't know the difference between a song and a piece.
the definition of a song is literally "a short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung"
>Whenever the singer stops singing, a song stops being a song, until the vocals resume
don't be an autist
sure the LITERAL definition of a song is words set to music, but most (read: almost everyone) considers instrumentals songs too
if we were talking to normies then sure it's fine to use it as a blanket term but this is a music board, you might as well learn something
lol
>are you talking about Shubert's songs without words?
>Schubert
Loving every laugh
Nice trips but there is no such thing as THE definition of a word
>implying this board isnt just normies
lol
anywa, do Wishful Eyes instead
Right but in this case if you look it up on any dictionary site or wikipedia or a music class at school the definition involves some mention of "words" or "human voice"
serious question: would a band like Sigur Ros play "songs" if their lyrics are literally gibberish
yes
Is the fool a song if mangum goes "doo doo-doooo" at the beginning?
Song against sex, please.
>Wikipedia
And plus, what if a multi-hour piece were to contain a single-syllable word? Your definition is arbitrary to the term of uselessness.
What do you call something entirely composed of instruments then? A musical composition? Don't be autistic, friendo.
literally any reputable dictionary/encylopedia, not just wikipedia.
here's the summary from grove music dictionary
HERE'S THE FUCKIN FOOL TO CALM YOU ALL DOWN
Nice goalpost movement
Not intended as a goalpost move, I didn't even realise you had a image in your post the thumbnail was so small. I thought you were doubting the veracity of a wikipedia definition of song that involved 'some mention of "words" or "human voice" ', but I understand now.
That is what Mendelssohn called some of his instrumental pieces that were intended to be suggestive of song, but that doesn't change the meaning of the word. Words are primarily defined by their usage, and although the OED lists ' d. Music. A musical setting or composition adapted for singing or suggestive of a song. song without words, an instrumental composition in the style of a song (after Mendelssohn's title ‘Lieder ohne Worte’); also transf.' as a definition, it is far from its primary usage, and would not be recognised as common usage by most people. Regardless, Pree Sisters Swallowing a Donkey's Eye is not suggestive of a song, so the appellation "song", in this context, cannot be applied to it.
A piece, a piece of music, etc. And there are more specific names from there of course because "music without human voices" is a pretty broad category
very nice
sorry for arguing :(
Love this song.
doesnt heff go "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in thebbeginning? theres definitely a voice in the very beginning
I think that's just the fade in from the previous track.
*jeff
Pree sisters swallowing a donkeys eye
>if we were talking to normies then sure it's fine to use it as a blanket term
>Words are primarily defined by their usage
Besides, descriptivism is more than laughable.
but thats still a voice, which makes it a song
I would argue it's not part of Pree Sisters, but part of the previous piece. I suppose it's pretty borderline, but I find it hard to think of Pree Sisters as a piece for voice.
The point is we're on a music forum where you would expect people to use musical terms in an exact and precise way. It's not much to expect that people use the most common and important words in music correctly on a music forum imo.
I'd feel pretty fedora if I called an instrumental punk rock song a "piece" of music
If words are defined by their usage, then using the term song to refer to instrumental compositions and/or performances is correct, no matter how inexact and imprecise it may be. Hell, if words are defined by their usage, me using the term in that way makes it correct, otherwise you're using arbitrary metrics.
well, when you turn on Pree Sisters, that plays so its part of the song. thats like saying the first 30 seconds of Two Headed Boy part Two isnt part of that song because it carries over from Untitled
