Best one from this decade
Shame the follow up band was disappointing
...
>art punk
blame the hipsters for naming genres
Chrome Is objectively good
Television is not post punk
Post punk revival is objectively bad
Shut up faggot
...
nothing is objective when it comes to art and taste
Faux Fur's dope, I dont think they're a band anymore which sucks. They draw a lot from Women, which is cool cuz the front man was 16 when this band started. He's doing Un Blonde now, who had some great post punk records, but now he's doin' ambient/sound collage/field recording/spirituals/soul stuff, which is pretty dope.
that static section on the first song is very triggering, but yes they have something special
Any recent post punk albums similar to Viet Cong s/t?
also progressive punk, pic rel8ed
I hope you catch Zika.
Preoccupations - Preoccupations ;)
also this though I'm not sure if its post-punk but whatever it is its brilliant
that cover is really rad and i honestly have no idea why
see
also pic related is one of the best art punk albums for a very long time, quite mathy and progressive and the only recent band I've found who are on a par with Women
yes love this album
this thread better be alive and healthy when i come back here 2 hours later because i'm getting some good music here
...
...
post-punk bands have GOAT album artwork
pic related is my AOTY and the cover is great too

The scream at 1:05 is one of the most bloodcurdling moments I've ever experienced through music, Dagmar Krause has got some incredible pipes
good thread here's a bump

what do people think of wire
>art punk
>implying punk can be art
It's been a thing since the mid 70s
en.m.wikipedia.org
No one talks about this here but it's a quality record
It's a genre you tool
>he doesn't know art punk is just another term for rock-in-opposition
>he doesn't understand how etymology works
This album is so fucking good, sucks they peaked with their first big release
>former slave quarters
>tucked by the alley
>serf population
>too high to tally
Is there anything else like the pop group?
It's a shame Pitchfork didn't review it.
Would have given them more exposure.
>art punk is rock in opposition
No. Absolutely not.
The Contortions
its good but it did feel fairly standard for a post-punk revival album, there's so many bands going for that garage-flavoured (lo-fi?) post-punk right now and many of them have done it better with a lot more originality than Omni
sure but the songwriting is above average i'd say
Songs like Siam/Earrings/Jungle Jenny are legitimately fantastic (especially Siam)
Should've phrased myself better. Art punk to punk is what rock-in-opposition is to rock. and you seem to be ignoring which is a good example of a band which juggles both
There are none.
i love how calgary fills the void women left behind
reccing this hard
they'll get it next time. p4k has to have an inventory of bandcamp artists to suck the life out of and then drop once their marketing exposure becomes stale
Pretty solid album.
Here's another.
Ohh...gee. H-how do you do bunny?
You're either a troll or a moron. Either or, fuck off.
bump, nice thread
This. Best rock album this decade imo.
seeing them next saturday
i hope they play some stuff off this
no one's posted it yet because everyone knows it but this is arguably now the best album in the thread
Swell Maps is all you need
It's one of my favourite albums of all time and can comfortably hold the title of without any serious competitors.
With that said I think pic related can trump it

HIJACKING THIS THREAD
Does anybody have a mega link to Sign o' the Times by Prince? The archive links don't work
oh shit, matt flegel's brother is the drummer, pretty cool
Yes.
Overstating it but they are essential.
I need my Pere Ubu and Sun City Girls.
>art punk
chrome represents the worst of post-punk imo. aimless self-indulgent experimentation with no care for songwriting.
interesting from an intellectual standpoint maybe but that's it.
Pick a Fall album
good joke
>matt and pat's brother
why does everyone forget Pat. He sang and played guitar in women, and judging his musical output against matt's, was obviously a huge reason why women were such an interesting band and why Preoccupations judt sound like a darker Interpol.
>Viet Cong
that's not their name shitlord!!!
thank you
love this album
if you dig the fall you should check out country teasers and the rebel.
No. Chrome have some brilliant songs. Sounds like you've only listened to Alien Soundtracks or something. They got quite poppy on Red Exposure. Great band with lots of understated sonic intensity. Helios Creed is a very underrated guitarist.
Firebomb

Act Of Tenderness was so much better than preoccupations, its only because the latter chose to sign to a big label that they're far more well-known. I have a lot of respect for Pat for sticking to the shadows and making some of the most aggressively off putting and emotionally wrought music today
also I've always wondered if the band name Women was Pat's input, given that he now demands to be referred to as a 'she' when performing
anyone got a dl link. I've been looking everywhere for this album
"art punk" is not a thing you out of touch high schoolers
wikipedia says it is so fucc u
Are they from the Netherlands? If they're from Belgium I would've known
is he trans or is it like an alter ego thing
I really couldn't tell you, I've read some reviews that were referred to Pat in entirely gender neutral pronouns, so they may know something we dont know, or they may not know and just be playing it safe.
Either way Pat really embodies the character, if it is a character. On the first album there were like two tracks with those deadpan Women vocals, but pretty much every other track (with vocals) is sung in this sometimes soaring falsetto, which just kind of floors me.
Well, actually everything about art is objective (e.g. this is objectively the colour red or Jim Morrison's voice). How we perceive art is what I would call "taste", and that is clearly subjective. However, "taste" is basically just a manifestation of the individuals subjective character/perspective, which ought to expand as we move through this life until we can appreciate everything for what it is. I imagine that there actually is an objective way to evaluate art, but it is as ineffable and unreachable as infinity, understandable only to an omniscience. I suspect that such an omniscient perspective would evaluate art according to how similar that piece of art is to totality.
Subjectivity tries to approach objectivity as the particular tries to approach the universal. This is why there is such a strong consensus that Ulysses is the greatest novel.
Likewise, Bach.

panic at the disco, weezer, alanis morisette and mcr
Completely accurate, actually.

Here are fifteen great post-punk records Sup Forums never talk about. All highly recommended.
Thanks for posting! Found some gems
Hey bob
How do you define bad? By a non-unique combination of elements? Something can be well-constructed and in my opinion that would make it great to me, even if it's not unique and therefore can't rise to that transcendent level a la Chrome. Personally, I've never heard a song quite like PDA. Interpol at the very least has a better sense of songwriting and melody than the greatest post-punk bands (this is because post-punk is not about songwriting).
In this sense, though Interpol's combination of elements isn't that unique, it's unique enough for me to consider their debut a good album.
Nah, I'm Magpie.
didn't mention him in my first comment because i couldn't remember if pat was his name, and 'matt and pat's brother' sounded pretty ridiculous in my head, sorry for triggering you bb
This album is great.
I didn't like the second album quite as much, but at the same time I think they were exploring their own sound more than the very obvious Television, Talking Heads sound of this one.
bump
Kaiser Chiefs are a really really really cool post-punk band.
u should be
>cold wave
>no Guerre Froide
youtube.com
judging by the album cover art, this is gonna sound horrid
Actually that song made me wtf so hard.
Its so different from all of their other songs. Cant even imagine how the new album will sound.
made me respond/10
