he'll be fine

He still loves what he's doing, he hasn't sold out completely and has remained mostly true to his craft.

Yeah and I appriciate him for that, but I really dont want to see him die on stage kek

has debts to pay

He tours more than he did in the 60s-70s. If setlist.fm is accurate, he's never done fewer than 70 shows a year since 1986. Especially at his age, the amount of touring he continues to do is freaking insane.

Only way to pay the bills. Can't live off album sales anymore like it's 1975.

He's been doing this since the 80s which was WELL before Napster.

Dylan owns the publishing rights to his music which, according to what I read, gained him $22 million from 2010 to 2014.

Was one of the most popular musicians in history and lives a very humble low key lifestyle, I don't think he's desperate for money.

This post prompted me to google "Bob Dylan tour" and one of his three listed shows is about an hour's drive from me (at a casino, kek). I've heard some pretty awful things about his performances in recent years, but he's easily one of my top five favorite artists. Should I go?

yeah i think you should. Dont let his raspy voice turn you off from his style tho. He's old, cut him some slack

he sounds horrible nowadays. it's really depressing

His shows these days are pretty bad. And he barely plays any classic songs, he mostly does Frank Sinatra covers

i was in the same position (but at red rocks in CO so it was kinda expensive) and I didn't go and kinda regret it. Even if he is trash you are getting to see Bob Dylan live in person

Dylan has always been the consummate auteur who only plays for himself and whatever he feels like on a given night. That means if he feels like playing stuff from his new album instead of Blowin' In The Wind, then fuck you.

That's why I'm tempted, but
I'm afraid I'll be disappointed, even with greatly lowered expectations

I actually kinda liked Shadows in the Night, so as long as his performance is remotely competent, I don't care what the setlist is. Shit, I don't blame him for being tired of playing Positively 4th Street after fifty years.

>Shit, I don't blame him for being tired of playing Positively 4th Street after fifty years

Unless you're Paul McCartney who'll always regale you with that same stale anecdote about the time he saw Bill Haley and the Comets and how "The fans want your hits, so give them what they paid $300 a ticket to hear."

Paul has more canon hits than Dylan and is a lot more commercial artist, so in his case I can see the reason for it. The advantage of guys like Dylan and Springsteen is that they have large catalogs and only a small number of hits so they can basically get away with any setlist they feel like.

Blowin' in the Wind actually is one of the ones he still plays. I don't care if he doesn't play his most popular hits, dude has like a thousand songs he could play but instead just does a bunch of covers and tickets are like $80. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

I saw him in Istanbul a few years ago, he was absolute fucking garbage.

I recall that Springsteen on his 2013-14 tour played at least 200 different songs (probably included some covers in there) whereas AC/DC and Kiss rarely ever change up their setlists.

>implying this wouldn't be a great way for a musician to go out

>implying this wouldn't be a great career move

I don't even particularly like Dylan, and I have literally spent long, psychologically significant periods of my life driving up and down highway 61, driving past the juvie prison in Red Wing many dozens of times.

I still feel a vague cultural obligation to listen to the basic meme stuff, but I just can't be fucked. I do like the stories where Bob is out walking in a different place on tour, minding his own business, and gets hauled in by the cops for looking weird though.

He sold his soul to the devil in exchange for the trilogy.

that meme is dry and old, t b h desu

Yeah generally the more commercial you are, the more obligated you are to play Greatest Hits setlists. I mean, have you ever heard of a Foreigner or REO Speedwagon show where they played anything but their big singles?

I wonder where the actual fuck he got the idea that his voice in its current state is suitable for Sinatra tunes. Shit, he couldn't have touched those songs when he was 30.

He's not one of the most popular perfomers to bootleg for nothing.

Kiss play all the obscurities/B-sides on their Kiss Kruise/unplugged shows. Their regular shows however always feature the same 6-8 songs.

Sub blues= early gangster rap. Dis boi be playin on his deathbed. Truely HardCore

To be fair, Frank Sinatra couldn't touch his own songs when he was 70+ either.

not even a meme he really did it

He seems really depressed. I haven't seen him cause he's only hit up my state on Wednesdays and shit, but my dad's seen him like 5 times and says he didnt smile at all.

user, if you really believe that he sold his soul to a thing that doesnt even exist then you are fucking retarted
>cheif commander in a world we cant see
sure I guess you could take that to mean the devil but you could also take that to mean your god as well. Its vague as fuck and I think its pretty appearent he was cracking a joke. He didnt literally make a deal with anyone. You're stupid

>that meme is dry and old
Just like Dylan's vocal cords.

lets moisten them up with our tongues or our dicks
