I saw Grimes at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything.
She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Mam, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

You have to love the challenge of it all or else you're hopeless.
I'm a film major and I would be nowhere if I didn't work my ass off. I just want to make my tapestry of ideas and stories to become realities through film. And, in my line of work, I'm lost if I can't make as many connections as possible. I go to a smaller college in CA and I drive two hours out to LA every weekend to get experience at a production company. I've already won some of the small meaningless indie awards for my short films but I don't know if I'll be making any big films in the future. I'm fortunate to also have citizenship in Sweden and Israel, where I already have job offers in production companies, so I'll probably just be an indie filmmaker in Europe or the Middle East.
Sorry to ramble on about myself but all I see in my school's department are people who talk about making it big and are unwilling to work tirelessly to make their film's visual quality better and their story more enticing. I'm assuming you want to make it big like Grimes, for which I can only tell you that you need to work as hard as you possibly can. If at any moment you wonder why you are not where you want to be, you need to stop the contemplation and start working to improve whatever could be holding you back. Further, paradoxically, you have to accept the fact that you may never make it. That's just the way the world works. Finally, don't let your strive for success allow life to pass you by. It sounds cliche but you need to have fun with it, wherever you may be in your life.
