Try Hanon exercises.

Hanon exercises are good for beginning hand/fingering independence but they don't teach you anything about rhythmic independence

Also depends on where you're going ---- sometimes an inverted chord makes more sense if you're traveling from one chord to another...

none
do not want

which is exactly what asked for. hand independence.
you are correct though, rhythmic independence is another story.

IMHO rhythmic independence is part of the broader discipline of hand independence. but I suppose one could separate them

(1) You can always use inversions of chords which make for some spice.
(2) Use 7th, 9ths, 11ths, etc. instead of the generic chord.
(3) Check out hooktheory.com for some pop song chord progressions that you can rip off -- and just use the ssame harmonic progression but write differeint melodies over top
(4) take your fave songs and copy their chord progressions

Aug/dim and major seventh chords help

also you don't necessarily have to use cliche chord resolves. for example you could do G#m, F#, B to E7, A, Emaj7, E as opposed to doing a cliche Eb
