Love me some WL/WH.
Gotta love you some Public Strain.
...
Goslings - Grandeur of Hair
This is an awful example of music. But it's got cool noise.
why is it a bad example of music?
Love girl band btw, Lawman is great.
this and The Men - Leave Home
All of the songs on Grandeur of Hair are just the female vocalist gliding through her vocal scales while some cool noise happens in the background. It's not a groove, it's not organized into anything other than a forward progression and is really poor listening imo. It's got REALLY cool sounding noise though. I think it's a really neat aesthetically.
And Lawman is great. The Early Years is a real good EP that I only just got into myself!
obligatory,
and Yank Crime obviously.
i can see what you mean, its not necessarily a great album but does have its moments,
I find this pretty groovy
...
who are these guys and why are they so overrated?
can an album be labeled retroactively?
of course.
duh
I love the centrism around the drum rhythms on this album, it's something I don't see on HEALTH's other albums. Sort of tribal, but I don't know if there is that much research/intention behind the conceit.
the only good health album
>le "TVU is noise rock" meme
autistic rym kids pls die
I am more open to dancey stuff than maybe you are but I really like Get Color and some singles/remixes. Death Magic is really, really disappointing.
it's shit
Pretty much the entire catalog
I miss when The Men were a crazy mysterious-guy-hardcore band and not just a Thin Lizzy cover band
nuh uh.
Imo if it has cool noise then it's considered good music. It's very unorthodox for the reasons you mentioned but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad example of music. As if "music" can be properly defined anyway
...
get color is amazing though
I'm not gonna get into that semantic debate, as you know it's sort of impossible or asinine to parse out, but I just think that album is insanely unvaried and mostly just cool sounding. It just doesn't do anything for me personally.
>i don't know what noise rock is
who are you quoting?
Not even the best sonic youth album
such a pleb - can you not appreciate this due to your unfortunate condition?
how the fuck is Deceit not noise rock?
i tried to explain this in another thread last night user, it's hopeless
Idk if you do..
Also this
is spacemen 3 noise rock
if so taking drugs to make music to take drugs to is fukken awesome
DN > Sister > Evol
cmon
Yo is this noise rock or just krautrock
noise rock is punk/post-hardcore music primarily, having eventually become its own thing with bands like Lightning Bolt, Pink & Brown, and Black Eyes
any lo-fi or slightly noisy rock music is not inherently noise rock
noise and/or drone made with guitars is still noise/drone, a guitar being used does not make it rock music
shoegaze is not fucking noise rock
...
Not at all man
Evol>DN>BadMoon>sis
your first line is so wrong. rest is correct
So... WH/WH is noisy rock?
And Shoegaze isnt noise rock
mclusky are brilliant.
did anyone see boris and earth play in dc a few days ago? boris was absolutely insane. couldn't hear until the next morning, and that was with ear plugs
What will come next? Loveless and Death Grips in noise rock threads?
I am more comfortable with DG being classified as noise rock than as hip hop
That would actually make more sense
nah even the bands like LB, Pink & Brown, etc etc are rooted in punk music/scenes. Most of Sup Forums will not understand thos as they are not actively involved in any DIY music scene, but "punk" for the past 20 or so years has essentially been a catch-all for underground DIY music scenes. Noise rock is punk.
R u memeing?
wl/wh is just a bad record
If you don't think the titular song on WL/WH is rock music, you're fucking dense.
if you think noise rock as a defined genre started with LB and P&B, you're delusional or uneducated
no
>having eventually become its own thing with bands like Lightning Bolt
>1994
you literally have zero context holy shit.
My understanding of noise rock is that it is definitely a relative/subset of post hardcore. Cows, Jesus Lizard, Halo of Flies, Cherubs, Scratch Acid, Big Black, and so on.
did I say it started there? The late 90s was just when it commonly began to expand beyond the overlap with post-hardcore, ofc there were instances of this before those bands.
you're the same guy from yesterday's thread, saying how You're Living All Over Me wasn't noise rock
...
are you the same retard from last night who was saying Touch & Go bands weren't post hc?
YLAM is shoegaze
"Noise rock is a style of rock music that became prominent in the 1980s. Noise rock makes use of the traditional instrumentation and iconography of rock, but incorporates atonality and especially dissonance, and frequently discards typical songwriting conventions.[1][2][3] Noise rock developed from early avant-garde music, sound art, and rock songs featuring extremely dissonant sounds and electronic feedback."
if only you could google before spouting your uninformed bs
no? this is the first time i've seen your retarded thought processes.
schizophrenia is the only good song on sister
it's almost like wikipedia is not the ultimate authority on genre definitions
that's just false
that's a funny way to spell Catholic Block
The wikipedia article corroborates what the guy is saying. Noise rock became defined as such in the 80s rising out of the post hardcore scene. Look at the list of the original noise rock bands:
>Caroliner, and Grotus (San Francisco), Big Black[2][3] (Chicago), Butthole Surfers,[2][3] The Jesus Lizard[3][5] Scratch Acid[6] (Texas), The Melvins[3][29] (Montesano, Washington), Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth,[1][2] Live Skull, Swans,[1][2] White Zombie,[1][2] The Thing, and Helmet[3][30] (New York), Pussy Galore[2] and Royal Trux[2] (Washington DC), among many others. These bands were initially referred to as "pigfuck" by Robert Christgau,[31] in a reference to Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris, though the increasingly melodic tendencies of many of these groups quickly rendered the tag misleading. The Minneapolis label Amphetamine Reptile[3][32] released a great deal of music in this tradition.
The article acknowledges bands like VU as precursors to noise rock, and genres like shoegaze paralleling elements of noise rock. But it doesn't mean that shit is fucking noise rock.
apparently pulling something straight out of your ass is a better authority?
have you ever listened any shoegaze?
that one is okay but schizophrenia is in another galaxy by comparison
Krautrock, proto-punk (proto-post punk, ironic but that's post modernism for you)
Then what genre is white light/white heat
I hear elements of noise rock in WL/WH but it cannot fucking be noise rock because the genre wasn't to be coined for decades hence.
If you want to coin a term "proto noise" in relationship to that album, then more power to you, sounds accurate to me and hope it catches on.
I would call it Art Rock or Post Garage or something.
If this album is noise rock then so is Lonesome Crowded West. Or are you guys just not counting the first four tracks?
That makes no fucking sense at al
Great rebuttal dude.
Why thread so dead
>poop poop *fart* poopy doo poop!
>that makes no sense
>Great rebuttal dude.
How is
>poop poop *fart* poopy doo poop!
An accurate representation of what I said? You argue like a fucking toddler.
Great rebuttal dude.
Thanks. Sorry that you lost this argument, in which you failed to provide evidence against my claim about Lonesome Crowded West and the first four tracks of WL/WH having similar levels of noisiness.
I met one of the guys from black eyes the other week while I was at work. guy seemed pretty cool.
youtube.com
I adore this album. The lead guitar in the first track always sends chills up my spine.
Great rebuttal dude.
Oh and second favorite is The Mausoleums - Blackened Fawns Cleanse the Earth with Fire
>youtube.com
But it might count as black metal, I'm not sure.
...
there is no lead guitar senpai
basses are guitars familial
more moody, dark, simple shit like really early Shellac?
Stuff like this and the darker moments on At Action Park is by far their best work, kinda a shame they fell into line with all the mathy post-hc bands that tried to rip them off.
psychedelic garage funk desu
hammerhead, chokebore, later cows
all of those are good but don't quite capture the super depressive sound I'm talking about
idk those first couple Shellac records are flawless, they sound so much more human and grounded in reality than most depressive music
White light/white heat is so fucking good. Umph its better than TVU&N
fuck you
For once i agree
I spent almost an hour yesterday playing bass along to Sex Bomb while screaming a lot and it was a fucking blast
Why do people like that comp and Forged Prescriptions so much? They're much worse than the actual albums/eps. Also people complain about the Ecstacy Symphony bit in Transparent Radiation? That's the best fucking part, not sure why the Forged version is from the EP
Early Superchunk is the best noise rock
