>Complete Village Vanguard Sessions maybe sometime i will do a chart dedicated to nothing but complete sessions for different jazz albums
Hudson Cooper
I had hoped to go to bed early as I have plans tomorrow but I've ended up listening to some sweet Chet Baker stuff. Don't regret it.
Owen White
That looks cool. Have you heard Intermodulation? Just finished and it's fantastic. Also now listening to that new Pyramids thingy and it's blowing my mind, even though I didn't really like that king of kings one
Justin Perez
fyi for like the past two weeks i've been in the mood where i just fucking love music and wanna listen to as much of it as possible so that's why i've been plowing through these charts
Fred Frith - Guitar Solos (1974) >free improvisaton
Technically, a wonderful record, Frith pulls sounds out of the guitar that I'd never expect from such a basic, widely utilized instrument. But I can't help feeling that I don't enjoy this nearly as much as Frith probably enjoys it, at least when it comes to the pieces that focus more on fret tapping. These pieces are rooted more in the Frith's avant-prog roots, and they really do feel like they could be a guitar part on a Henry Cow or Massacre release, but alone they're too bare and self-indulgent, and ocassionaly irritating. The album's split about half and half between these pieces and the prepared guitar pieces, which are amazing. Prepared guitar has always interested me, and Frith is the fucking master at it, the soundscapes he creates with the instrument—exploring every single conceivable facet of it—are unbelievable. If it weren't for the tappy pieces and the jarring transitions between the two styles exhibited here, this would be a masterpiece. As is, it's deeply flawed and self-indulgent but still interesting and enjoyable.

also my god I never realized this man was a part of so many bands until reading his RYM page
i'm listening to the new dino jr. album right now (spoiler: it fucking blows), but I'll check it out and hopefully enjoy it afterwards.

all my 5s are basically /daily/core...
dude you totally should, and if you do i might steal that idea. although the main sessions album i wanna listen to is the Pet Sounds Sessions, and that sure as hell isn't jazz.
Xavier Baker

Yes, it needs more listens but I liked it. And the Chet record is great. Feels very personal. Rather slow but that's not a criticism, good for playing at a calm night I guess. I'm very glad I'm digging more into him. Chet Baker sings is okay but nothing special for me, but these two 1985 records by him I've checked are both great. Definitely gonna keep going. I say start with Chet's Choice and see what you like about it.
Gavin Diaz
no better feeling honestly. i'm just glad i only very rarely get in spells where i just don't wanna listen to music, and it hasn't happened in years.

Sunday at the Village Vanguard is just beautiful absolute serenity in musical form also I just realized Waltz for Debby is from the same sessions, so I guess I'm giving that a relisten
Koln Concert tomorrow, maybe one more Tyner or Evans tonight >although the main sessions album i wanna listen to is the Pet Sounds Sessions, and that sure as hell isn't jazz the main ones I have in mind are Village Vanguard Sessions (both evans and coltrane), Ayler's In Greenwich Village complete, complete In a Silent Way/Bitches Brew sessions, and the Complete at the Plugged Nickel
Kevin Nguyen
Alright, scatted out a review for Tzusing's latest bleep. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out, stylistically. (The review, that is. The music was amazing too.)
>Tzusing - A Name Out of Place, Pt. III The third installment of Tzusing’s loosely (but increasingly) connected now-trilogy, A Name Out of Place, does justice to the potential of a legacy established by the monumental part two. This EP sees Tzusing continuing to experiment with brooding atmospheres, metal-pinged-echo-cavernous reverb, twisted quick flares of sample, and characteristic pitch shifting.
The beats here are much more ritualistic, quite different from part 2’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert theme intro-reminiscent martial hypnotism. Only track 2 retains the single(hive)-minded fascist throb of part 2, while “Face of Electric” and “R” opt for more scattered and jerky rhythms. And they are none the worse for the wear, for “R” might be one of Tzu’s best tracks yet—it oscillates between barely contained, seething industrial clanging and outright manic screeching techno. The blacksmith-striking-the-forge beat really scrapes the ears, almost egging. It’s a violent track, and amazing for it. Techno rarely captures an urge so basely aggressive.
Tzusing may have captured lightning scopolamine in a bottle with part 2, but part 3 of A Name Out of Place starts a winning streak, and demands a break for the wild, the animalistic. >7/10

>Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial The only other CSH album that i have listened to is Twin Fantasy and i like it more for a couple of reasons. This album felt somewhat mono dynamic the whole time and had very few bursts of energy in the songs. I liked the songwriting a lot, but the instrumental stuff sounded a bit bland. I much prefer the lo-fi aggressive sound of Twin Fantasy with some slower more subdued tracks mixed in. This seems like a bunch of negatives, but i still enjoyed this and will probably listen to some more of his discography. blue triangle/10 Favorite Track: (Joe Gets Kicked Out of School for Using) Drugs With Friends (But Says This Isn't a Problem)

Took a walk tonight, saw a big toad in the road, and listened to pic related. I officially need to listen to much more OPN, because this shit was easily a 9/10.

>High Rise - II Great album to start off my adventure. This is some obvious LRD influenced 80's Japanese Noise Rock. Even though they've had different influences, this, in the end, sounds quite similar to Dinosuar Jr., a band active around the same time. One thing I don't like with this album is the last song Pop Sicle, a 13 minute jam that fails to replicate the experiences bands like LRD and Fushitsusha managed to perform at their peaks. 5/10 with a possible 6 through repeated listens.
>Teenage Jesus and The Jerks - Everything Lydia Lunch is a fucking hack. Uninteresting No Wave album which bored me to tears. 2/10
>Moondog - Moondog This is a quite interesting album which manages to mash a lot of ideas (medieval classical music and jazz mainly) with some success. 1 or 2 tracks which I didn't enjoy in here but mostly some solid music with great song progressions. 4/10 for the time being but a very possible 5 down the road.
>Merzbow - Flare Gun Definitely not as offensive as I thought it would be. In the end noise is not my thing but this was listenable, average record. 3/10
>Time Machines/Coil - Time Machines Definitely an above average drone album for me. These guys had an idea when they made this album, mainly to evoke a psychedelic experience. I think it manages to do just that, but it also drags on way too long for me. I guess I enjoy shorter drone tracks more, since they manage to hold my interest before becoming a snoozefest. 4/10.
that's it for the time being
Jayden Hernandez
what is your rating system like? is it a positive one, cause those ratings seem low for the praise you gave some of these records
Aiden Anderson
It's close to a positive rating yes. Consider 1 and 2 offensive, 3 average, 4 good, 5 very good and so forth.

>66981759 Had to look up what it stands for but it's basically an original animation only collaborative AMV and they almsot always are OriginalCharacterdonotsteal exclusi but instead of anime it's usually furries or weeabs but mostly the ones that dont draw anthro shit. They're the step between reading WarriorCats and being a FurAffinity member. My sister watches a lot of them but shes 12 tho. Here's some I just looked for where the animation isn't total balls: youtube.com/watch?v=0oJ2xnZbJKg AAAAAH FRANKIE SINATRA m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pml_h4Xh0E4 Sup Forumscore m.youtube.com/watch?v=-PKNuZovuSw legit amazing quality animation but that's cuz it's a one person art major bs also most of these are fucking slideshows with half a million views how the fuck does it have 12 mil views
If you dont want this shit in your suggestions or are too dumb to open an incognito window they kind of go like this but with fur crap instead of jontron and way lower quality m.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy_JlG7C-T8
Usually it is with the kind of music that gets turned into nightcore or tumblr bullshit but why the fuck are they doing AnCo I looked at some of them and the majority of the animation so far isnt totally balls

Dinosaur Jr. - Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not (2016) >alternative rock
There is no band more obviously on autopilot than Dinosaur Jr. There's nothing wrong with their songs, or their sound, it's just that they've been doing the same exact thing for 30 years and have /especially/ been doing the same thing since their 2007 comeback. And that's really a shame, because around the time of You're Living All Over Me they really were very inventive, mixing walls of blissful guitar noise with masterful pop songwriting, but now that they've toned down the noise they're just writing bland, generic pop rock songs. They're pleasant and all, but so painfully uninteresting. Mascis just sounds bored, even moreso than usual. The songs Barlow sings are actually the best songs here, because at least they're different, and add some energy and variety to this snoozefest of a rehashed album.

Aквapиyм - Aкycтикa. Иcтopия Aквapиyмa: Toм 1 Well, this is more than I expected from BG. I like the music, Grebenshikov's voice too, but sometimes lyrics are a bit off for me (though they are p good in "Ивaнoв", "Дepжaтьcя кopнeй"). There's no overall theme really, songs aren'treally in sync with each other, some have down-to-earth satire ("Ивaнoв"), while some lean to fantasy atmosphere ("10 cтpeл"). But yeah, it's alright in general.
Jose Nguyen

Glad no one here is a bleep-lord otherwise I’d probably get mad shade
>PiL - Metal Box REAAALLY glad I decided to come back to this. I listened to this first a few years ago after a rec from a guy who owned a small record label and hated it. I’m glad I’m going through my post-punk phase now, because this is exactly what the Fish ordered. Thanks Shamepai. 9
>João Gilberto - Chega de saudade Good vibes. Short. Consistant. A bit short lived. Not easy to find flaws in. This guy is quickly becoming one of my favorites. May have to drone his whole discog some time. 8
>近藤浩治 - Yoshi's Island Original Soundtrack Started out alright, and I expected the quality to drop immeditly into half-assery or boringness, but as soon as “The Flower Garden” hit I was moved. I get if there’s certain songs on here you couldn’t stand (to an extent I am this way. Why is “Nintendo Logo” a four second track????) but I really think this is nearly impossible to hate. Child-like and innocent. You really gotta be a sucker not to get a kick out of this. 7
>Trondheim Jazz Orchestra & Kim Myhr - Stems and Cages Pretty phenomenal imrpov pieces on here, and a few crap ones (typically those shorter in length). The wide array of traditional and orchestral instruments were an easy plus, but a lot of the wankery was an easy minus. 6
>The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation “Break & Enter”, “Voodoo People” as well as “Poison” had a lot going for them, but this wasn’t much more than “better than the other album by them anyone cares about”. If you want some techno that exudes 90s essence, look no further. 6
>Robert Hood - Minimal Nation Should mention I loved the first side of this. I respect its influence on the Detroid scene which I’ve enjoyed many albums from, but I can’t in good faith say I enjoyed much more from this. 5

Daniel Harris
>The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole Nah dawg. First and last tracks were something, but the rest wasn’t. I honestly don’t know if I could but into word exactly what niche here is really preventing me from enjoying it, but it’s very present and not pleasant. 5
>The Future Sound of London – Lifeforms s/t track really stood out to me, otherwise no matter how hard I tried to focus on this it was very in one ear and out the other with me. Very relaxing, but a very uninteresting ambient piece. Sad I almost got excited about this. 5
>Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Kim Myhr & Jenny Hval - In the End His Voice Will Be the Sound of Paper Don’t think the edition of Jenny Hval added much here. She presents a few interesting lyrics and some pleasant vocals, but other than that I couldn’t find much to love about this. Turned decent improv to mediocre free folk. 4
>RJD2 – Deadringer C’mon. Instrumental hip hop has done MUCH better than this in the past and you know it. You can’t hate on the basics of the form for a lot of turntablism moments, but other than “Ghostwriter” this had nothing interesting to show me. Features were as boring and unoriginal as putting a “hidden” track in the last track after a few minutes of silence. 4
