i'm sorry but you seem like you don't know shit about "artistic value".
i agree that album cover shows some technical skill, and it's not badly made, but in terms of "artistic value" that's nothing but edgy and shallow.
it could be just a matter of one's point of view, but for me, "artistic value" is what does the work contribute to the "art scene", how progressive it is. of course, not all art that doesn't have an impact like van gogh or michelangelo, et cetera, is bad; but wallowing in the old ideas and craftmanship-like evaluation of art (the painter's "skill") is definitely not of "artistic value".
that being said i admire the skill but don't think it's great art.

artistic value comes in many 'shades' i guess. for example, down in the cold of the grave. that was created by an artist to represent what he heard once listening to the album. its not just nice art that they put on the cover cause it was badass as fuck.
i may have used the wrong term, but it still stands. im not an artistic person, but to me, skillful art is considered value. i really dont get new wave modern art. to me it lacks interest but thats just me. im more of a traditionalist.
interesting fact, the guy who did that cover also did a large portion of the lord of the rings promotional art.
