My friends listen to mostly hip-hop (rap) - kanye west, kendrick lamar, tyler the creator, etc...
now I tried these following albums: (some they told me to listen to, others i picked from Sup Forumscore)
- Quasimoto - The Unseen
- Madvillain - Madvillainy
- Kanye West - MBDTF
- watch the throne
- Nas - Illmatic
- DANGER DOOM - The Mouse and the Mask
- Kendrick Lamar - Good kid M.a.A.D City
there might be more, ill try to remember.
point is I didn't like any of them, and I've given each at least 3 listens, now I know that I'm not supposed to force myself to like anything, but I'm sure there has to be at least a few records in this genre which are not shit? I mean I like some instrumental hip-hop artists, but I just can't seem to grasp the idea of rap hip-hop, except for Death Grips which I like 3 albums (ex-military, the money store, jenny death), and the rap parts in Gorillaz ain't that bad, but maybe that's just because they are short and the rest of the song is not rap).
tl;dr: post rap music for people who are not fans of rap music (i intentionally dont say hip-hop).
Also no "funny" skits, the ones on Madvillainy, Danger Doom and WTT gave me cancer.

Holy crap you didn't like The Mouse And The Mask? Mutha fucking Benzi Box? Nah it's all good bro. What you are discovering is that taste is subjective. I love that album. You just don't like the style at the moment at least, you don't like the vibe that goes through many of those artists. What you need to ask yourself is "What am I looking for?". "What turns me on in music?". Clearly you don't get off on just on clever lyricism otherwise you would have seen some merit in DOOM or Kendrick, and it sounds like slick, head nodding hip hop grooves don't do it for you either. If you really love Death Grips you are probably more into much harsher, unpredictable styles. Not that this is particularly that but maybe try some more angry gangsta shit like NWA, Public Enemy, well to be honest this is slightly out of my field but yeah try some real fucking dark heavy shit

wow since when was kanye west gay?

Hopsin.

If Illmatic and MBDTF don't do it for you, you're lost. I mean, I guess try The Infamous. Also you're autistic for purposely not calling it hip hop... What is the point? Is this some form of rebellion?

no, it's because there are hip-hop artists I do like, which don't feature rap in their music

Try Kill the Vultures' self titled

The Life of Pablo

Understandable. My bad.

>no, it's because there are hip-hop artists I do like
DJ Shadow and The Avalanches don't count as Hip Hop lmao

>DJ Shadow
>not hip hop

Weak b8 m8

OP give these a try
Cunninlynguists - A Piece of Strange
Blu & Exile - Below The Heavens
Canibus - Rip The Jacker
Charles Hamilton - The Pink Lavalamp
Substantial & Marcus D/Bop Alloy - Bop Alloy
Heiruspecs - Small Steps

...

OP, try these

Prolyphic & Reanimator - The Ugly Truth
Doomtree - Self Titled, No Kings

Don't start with Sup Forumscore hip hop
Listen to Paid in Full and Critical Beatdown and work your way historically from there

death grips are like edgy kids who think being random and unpredictable are deep

not trying to defend dg, they are just the only hip-hop i didn't suffer while listening to, i dont care for the whole edgy frame, i just think the music is good

Young Fathers - Tapes One and Two/DEAD

youtube.com/watch?v=eiMtr9QJHlY

basically death grips if death grips were scottish, didn't have their heads up their asses, no memes and didn't make you want to throw up after listening to them

Stop recommending all this meme/experimental rap for OP
OP should start with the golden age stuff that has soul not hip hop for people who don't like hip hop

It's like if somebody had never listened to rock before so you recommend Godspeed, Captain Beefheart, and King Crimson instead of the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, and the Velvet Underground

the new Avalanches album is pretty brilliant compared to the average hip-hop album, since it's compositionally a plunderphonics album that just has a lot of rap features.

He said no skits.

How is this in any way like Death Grips?

This is how you get into hip hop OP:
Listen to the lyrics. Pay attention to flow and wordplay and clever lyricism and whatnot. Lyrics are the most important in rap.

not that song but some are

so why not just read poems ffs? if some music is shit besides the meaning of the words, why listen to it? why not just read the fucking booklet and be finished with it? and fuck this flow meme, i saw beginner youtube rappers whose "flows" were just as good as famous rappers, so i dont get it.

>so why not just read poems ffs?

because poetry is a dying pointless art form

Because lyrics give music meaning and context you retard
It's not enough for pop to "sound nice", you get an emotionally sterile experience then

I actually like most of the albums you listed, but I realized long ago that I'm just not that into hip-hop, and maybe you will, too. Your time's better spent with a genre you actually enjoy exploring.

ESSENTIAL "im new to hip hop and i didn't like the Sup Forums memerap shit"-CORE
Low End Theory
Stress: The Extinction Agenda
36 Chambers
Paid in Full
Critical Beatdown
It Takes A Nation of Millions
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Aquemini
Mystic Stylez
Ready to Die

Maybe try some Open Mike Eagle, OP? Hes just a real ass dude with amazingly good flows and occasionaly hilarious lyricism. Hes just very casual. Doesnt really put off the whole "im the shit" vibr constantly, and when he does do that its super well executed. Anything off of Dark Comedy or Hella Personal Film Festival is great. Give the song American Religion a try. Its not on any of his albums but stuff from Mello Music Group is p cool. If anything maybe go with some instrumental hip hop instead like Flying Lotus, DJ Shadow's Endtroducing, or anything by Nujabes. Nujabes was a lot of peoples entry to hip hop if u were into animes as a kid.

My last recommend would be Aesop Rock only because he was sort of what got me into the lyrical aspect of hip hop my first year of high school when Skelethon came out. Eventually i found that None Shall Pass was a tad better but both albums are pretty cool. I was also into death grips at that time cause the Money Store had dropped that same year

Hope i could help you find your niche. If not, then have a good day bruhbruh

Try The Marshall Mathers LP or The Chronic 2001

if the music is good enough, it can convey meaning and emotion even without lyrics.

yeah but instrumental music can always be improved with lyrics

LISTEN TO TRAP. Can't believe no one here has said it already. And not mid-late 2000s shit like Gucci mane and Jeezy, modern trap like Future, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Chief Keef, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, etc. It's the only form of hip-hop that's good and not boring as hell.

Link us a hip hop song you enjoy, and we might be able to list similar tracks.

It's difficult to help you out only knowing which albums you dislike.

Have you heard shabazz palaces, it's got a very different vibe to the albums you posted. And it's alt. Hip Hip like death grips:
youtube.com/watch?v=ajk0kEi41Vc&list=PL9AtDq7_9CAEcQrw2SaK_74M2kMz5eed_
You've posted quite a range of disliked albums. It's my opinion you will not enjoy most of the recommended artists/albums in this thread.

...

>can always be improved with lyrics
spot the pleb

lmao

not pop music
I want the pretentious fucks who think they're special because they can't process language to leave

How about if you don't like the genre you don't listen to t he music. What an autistic fucking thread, you're retarded OP.

Stop forcing yourself to be interested in a genre you don't like just to impress your friends. Kill yourself.

>not pop music

This guy knows what's up, except for Lauryn hill. She can suck a dick
Try some West Coast like WC, DJ Quik and CMW.
Gucci is GOAT when it comes to trap music.

Fuck that shit. Do the opposite.
The lyrics are garbage 99.9% of the time from egotistical knobs who are obviously compensation and the only reason to listen are the vibes from the instrumentals usually.
Try this youtube.com/watch?v=7vDVDo9w20w

what do you consider pop user? is David Bowie pop user? are The Beatles pop? Tama Impala? if the answer is yes to these your previous statement contradicts this answer because they all made very good instrumental tracks, which definitely don't need lyrics.
These are just quick example from the top of my head, i can give more if you want

The Life of Pablo by Kanye West

Well, I rather enjoy Aesop Rock, Danny Brown, De La Soul, Sage Francis, MIA, K'naan, and The Underachievers, but if you don't like hip hop then you don't like it, and there's nothing wrong with that. It'll be a much more valuable lesson for you to learn to present yourself as you are fearlessly, without trying to bend to what anyone else wants. Also, many people try to be "generalists" and dip their toes into as many different genres as possible. This is much less valuable than figuring out what you do like, then going deep into what you're really passionate about, whether it's jazz or punk or whatever.

>then going deep into what you're really passionate about
this idea is frowned upon in Sup Forums (at least subconsciously), but I agree with what you are saying.

check out BADBADNOTGOOD's collabs with rappers
notably Sour Soul with Ghostface Killah and the Odd Future sessions

Gangsta rap and 80's hip hop is top tier
Shit like De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, and Dre

>OP should start with things he didn't like not what he requested

>ctrl+f
>no tommy wright iii

there are no skits in Watch The Throne

Listen to the classics and if you still don't like them then go fuck yourself for trying to listen to a certain genre just to fit in

i dont understand how you can not like
>Quasimoto
>Kanye
>Nas
>Kendrick
that covers a ridiculous amount of ground in rap music. im sorry but you honestly probably just do not have a taste for rap

>ITT: White people

>racism in a music discussion
gtfo please

>discussing music on a loli website
>wherearewe.jpg

>hip-hop (rap)

Bones - Useless

The next wave is with indie artist like this guy.
I keep seeing people posting this link on on here. I saw him make a thread under a trip I think and he got alot of shit but I dont see why because hes borderline amazing. Its not that gimmick wierdo rap everyone is trying to push nowadays.

soundcloud.com/ra-santana-3

i feel like you have a bad case of bad taste.

that's all.

or maybe even hip hop is 2deep4u
