The fact that so many books still name Frank Zappa as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" comedy rock musician ever only tells you how far comedy rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. Frank Zappa sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore he must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Comedy rock critics are often totally ignorant of the comedy rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Frank Zappa did anything worthy of being saved.

In the '90s, Piero Scaruffi - a music critic - wrote the original copypasta as an in-depth, scathing review of the Beatles (the actual review is far, far longer, but Sup Forums limits your messages to 2000 characters, so the most commonly used form of the pasta is just the first paragraph of the review). In case you don't know, Scaruffi is essentially Sup Forums: the music critic, so the denizens of this imageboard latched onto his critique of the Beatles and repeat it as copypasta now.
