This isn't always true. There's a guy that does customs in my neck of the woods (Eastern Canada) that grants a great final product at a price a few hundred bucks higher than a deluxe Strat/Tele (but no taxes). He does beautiful inlays of almost any design, worked for Larivee, sources practically any wood you need, and is very communicable on what you need.
So it would probably be better to have specific guitars for specific tunings then? Or just use some piece of crap I guess

If you have a compound double truss, you could string your guitar with bass strings and the neck will stay true. I've been running FACGCF for almost a decade.

Replying to my own post... It seems like the neck is bowed with the headstock facing up. Do I need to fuck with the truss rod.

Fix the bow in the neck, measure with a straightedge long enough for the entire neck. Have a lamp behind you so you can easily see. Adjust truss rod carefully. Break out a fitting Allen wrench and gently turn it clockwise to adjust neck backwards.

It should be 100% straight or as close as possible. Keep the strings on and have it in tune.
Keep it in a playing position when you adjust. Pressure on the headstock when it's flat adds to the bow.

yes you want the strings on and tuned to pitch. if you don't do this then you won't have any references for how the neck will be bowed when it's in tune.
you don't need straight edges or anything like that. all you need is some feeler gauges. once you know what you're doing you won't even need feeler gauges, you can just eye ball it.
