/prod/ General

When I scan for plug-ins in FL Studio 12.3 it comes up with a strange error and trys to close all my applications and shut down my computer. Anyone know how to fix this?

how's this /prod/ ?

Check the Image-Line forum.

I like the intro a lot. The whole thing seems really well done but the rest of the song just isnt my cup of tea

>not using ableton live

Any ideas?

clyp.it/vjui4xbo

Ableton really isnt that good and with the 12.3 update fl studio is just as good for sampling

hey, thanks anyway

And here's my remake from the last thread so you can laugh at somebody.

clyp.it/u0ecgy2v

low pass filter some parts of the chords.
Also, change up the last chord in the progression every 4 measures. Maybe sustain the last chord every 8 measures.

>tfw can't use my original FL studio because no FL plugins to pirate and I'm stuck with demos.

Thoughts on this beat?
There is going to be rapping over it.

whoops forgot the link clyp.it/swsjwf5g

needs more rhythm, that filtered white noise won't cut it

Thx, so like an automated low pass?

Sounds cool, something Bones would use. I feel like it could use something else, maybe you should add some sounds on top, maybe some chops or something. You know like those moans and lil clips of sound they use in Hip-Hop? Something like that. Make it more alive.

this is great
mind if i ask what drum samples do you use

On what do you spend the most of your time, /prod/, aside from composition? On searching for the right sounds? Mixing? Arrangement? Automatization?

Thanks for the feedback
I had vocal chops but they didn't fit very well, hope I can find some that work

What else can I add for rhythm?

For that beat I used ultimate boom bap drumkit

also I used 808 Trapstep Pack Vol 1 for the kick

thanks for replying
the synth line is also very nice
im a newbie what vst's would you recommend me get first

Why is everything here some muddy background noise music with tons of foley and some loud drums on top?

All of it, gotta get everything 100% right.

no reason

Well ofc, but if you have 100% of the time - how much percentage goes to, choosing and creating the right sounds, for example?

I can see people here make crazy shit in a few hours and I can waste all that time just trying to make one instrument sound listenable, and still fail in the end. I'm really trying but I'm just having a hard time.

brb making a halftime drum loop with some water plops and aggressive sidechaining

Baka desu senpai we can joke about it, but it is true.

well, personally I don't work on the idea while I'm making music. the inspiration and the idea is already there on a notepad along with 2000 other ideas so I just focus on production when I work.

Because it's an easy way to make something sound decent without any talent. Making melodic music actually requires musical understanding and skill

Or maybe it's because we like the way it sounds?

That's what I said. You make it because you like the way it sounds. If you tried to make something different which requires skill, it would sound bad, hence you don't make it.

Does skill really even matter?
If it sounds good, it sounds good

No pasta, no answer for you.

Ableton is embarassing to look at, and even more embarassing to use, desu senpai.

No it doesn't, but I was answering the persons question.

Wallowing in despair.

Fuck off with DAW Wars shit

all daw's be like
>we can do multitrack audio recording and midi sequencing at the same time! VST plugins? yep, we got em!

latest serum crack when

cant stop it from calling home and ruining my presets

Try disconnecting your phone line if it bothers you so much.

clyp.it/2hfsd2wn

is the mixdown on this really awful

ALRIGHT WHAT THE FUCK IS SIDECHAINING AND HOW DO I PROPERLY DO IT

fl studio

>Does skill really even matter?

It doesn't matter to the buyer, because they want music that they like the sound of regardless of how it comes about. Similarly anyone who just wants to make money from selling music will take the money no matter how they get it.

It only matters to people who want to get a particular sound, intentionally - skill is the road to that place.

Side chaining is basically taking the signal from one thing as the input for another thing.

most commonly used is to take the kick drum (or a sidechain channel) and sidechain it to a compressor on other instruments, which can create a more pumping sound if done right

Alright but why do people say to sidechain a kick to a compressor when you can just add a compressor directly on top of the kick

Sidechaining with a kick doesn't compress the kick - the kick only controls the compressor and the compressor itself is acting upon another sound.

You're compressing different instruments. So when the kick hits, the other instruments are compressed allowing the kick to sound louder in the mix

How well can you hear out of your ears prod?
soundgym.co/site/page?lp=doctor

I know its fucking terrible but i would listen to some opinions.

clyp.it/1ogrehue

Mixing, I think I'm going to make a resolution to not spend more time mixing a song than I did actually writing it, lol.

>creepy nightmare music.mp3

>If only I could tweak these 1000 parameters just right, my music would sound amazing!

I know the feeling bro

Nah it's good, watch out for those low mids though, like around 300 hz. And the highs can be a bit piercing like at 0:25.

it´s very loud, the render fucked up a bit.

>people never giving feedback on the actual music here
>only giving comments on sound design and mixing

How am I ever supposed to know if the track is even worth working on, then? Who gives a fuck about all that if the piece is bad.

But I've noticed that some of the shittiest pieces here in terms of harmony and melody usually have the best production, so they still get a lot of praise here.

show me u tracking nigga, i will listen to u.

Sound design and mixing is the hardest part desu, and most people don't produce melodic music

post ur shit pham i'll critique you

go to comp for the music side of things, no one here is a composer hahahaha

Sidechaining is using the signal of one channel to trigger an effect on another channel but you're probably referring to sidechain compression. Read the manual.

You should learn to judge your own shit objectively before anyone else does.

>no one here is a composer
But i am

So how do I into FL Studio? Just YouTube tutorials?
Because this shit seems waaaay too complicated for me to learn on my own.

yes
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGYoE903Nir5-wvI5ipGZMS6AYD1Le_iu

Stop relying on youtube tutorials and start messing with things on your own time.

Definitely finding the right sounds.

here we go

No, fuck you. Either apply yourself or ask yourself why are you even doing anything creative.

Mix-wise its quite nice. I would change the bass sound, as most of your synths already sound samey tone-wise. Try and find some other sort of 808 sample with a longer transient, otherwise pretty good.

>i don't like it when people do things differently than me

^ this. If you have a sound/type of song you want to make, then you'll get off your ass and learn. Alternatively, you'll fuck off. Most YouTube tutorials for DAWs are ass, and you'll pick up every single bad habit the person making it has as well.

Pretty cool strawman, mind if I borrow it?

Read the manual.

exactly, i don't think anyone here needs telling that there is a right and wrong way to do music, so why learn from a youtube tutorial

its all yours my friend

>if you want to find some kind of guide and instructions for using this complicated piece of software rather than fumbling blindly in the dark on your own then apply yourself and fuck off
/prod/ should have stayed dead desu

So do you people assume that learning a piece of software will grant you magical songwriting powers?
Also
>complicated
Fucking toppest of keks.
Learning is making mistakes. If you don't make them and realize what makes them mistakes instead of successes, what's the fucking point?
>some kind of guide and instructions
Then read the manual, don't rely on word of mouth of some kid half your age.

>Sound design and mixing is the hardest part desu, and most people don't produce melodic music
Holy shit, no it fucking isn't.

And there's still a ton of composition involved in music that isn't melodic.

You're retarded. I spend more time on sound design than anything else probably, but composition and actually making a good song are 10000x harder and far more important. Most of the advice in these threads doesn't consider songwriting much at all.

>do things exactly how i do them or else

My hobby should be collecting strawmen.

>Holy shit, no it fucking isn't.
of course it isn't when all you use are presets

lurk moar faggot

is the ableton is shit meme some sort of counter-meme to the fl is shit meme? nobody could actually be pleb enough to think ableton is shit, right guys?

How does this sound? Feedback pls.

>clyp.it/dqkmwr3c

I'm trying to type individual responses but really I'm just genuinely baffled that you seem to think that it's desirable to learn how to use a complicated tool through literal guesswork. You can spew memes about it all you want, FL Studio is a complicated piece of software.

The process of learning and making mistakes comes in the songwriting. Why should you also have to struggle against the software instead of finding a resource to learn at the very least the basics?

>So do you people assume that learning a piece of software will grant you magical songwriting powers?
>My hobby should be collecting strawmen
lmao

actually it should be walking into traffic

4 chords with a change up ever 8... song structures that are ABABCBA... oh so difficult and complex. better spend all my time on that instead of these 10000 other parameters that need to be adjusted to sound right.

A couple questions!

>What is the best on computer synth?
>Is massive / maschine worth it? I have a maschine and want to sell it
>Where can I get great samples? I will pay. Producercloud?
>is ableton standard worth the price? I have intro and it sucks so much
>Is there a place I can get an ableton template that has proper mixer channels and effects set up for quick turn around?

great questions, literally enter them into google

rollin

All daws are about the same, mang.
>guesswork
Yes, in all honesty. Have fun. Experiment.
>complicated
Again.
You've got the mixer with tracks and volume faders. You've got a piano roll to put notes in. You've got a playlist to arrange patterns.
You have to be a literal retard not to understand how it all goes together on a basic level. And if you're a beginner you don't need to know anything before you need to know it.

How do I go about keeping my sample speed from increasing/decreasing when I use higher or lower on the piano roll. I tried searching for an answer but found nothing conclusive. Maybe it's the way I word my searches.

kontakt can do this

I have between 6 and 30 automation lanes for all of my tracks and buses in pretty much all of my tracks, and spend at least an hour, sometimes 8+ hours, designing each synth and sample.

Sound design and mixing is more time consuming and technical, but songwriting is still way harder.

Hey guys, I've been looking to get into production for a while now.

Is this a good midi for beginners?

Lots of cool soft synths, try going over to Equipboard to see what synths your favorite producers use.

Massive is pretty cool yes.

Check out Loopmasters, they have a wide selection of samples and you can find most of them pirated.

Ableton is pretty nice, you can also pirate it.

Make your own template, it'll only take you a couple of minutes.

use another sampler like Harmor for example

>but songwriting is still way harder.
that sucks for you

buy it if you want it, dont buy it if you dont. there's not much else to say

Post one of your songs.

yeah, it's pretty cool

I got this recently and I'm having a blast with it. Being the first midi controller I owned I'm a biased and uninformed but it was very user friendly and was using it almost right away. I just can't wrap my head around the software that comes with it.

>try going over to Equipboard to see what synths your favorite producers use
lol all the listing are shit though

Honestly Akai MPK doesn't have weighted keys poor response and it overpriced plus the pads are shit. Way better stuff out there. I only got one because it's what yung chop uses.

clyp.it/4nsukd4o

literally just started this

advice on how to improve my ideas? I am very new thanks for the help everyone
