It's annoying and grating, but in an enjoyable way. I don't really know how to properly articulate it. It gives you a migraine, but it's an enjoyable kind of migraine. Like, you know how My Bloody Valentine goes into the painful 'holocaust section' during their live shows, and at first it's painful and sends you into a panic but after some time it's incredibly transcendental and puts you in a kind of pure ecstasy? It's like that.
I think, somehow, massive amounts of pain inflicted over long periods of time causes the brain to go into a trance state. I mean, just look at Swans' live shows. I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
