Anthony Gonzales from M83. Calling it.
Get on my level, faggots.

You guys will understand someday.

Dead Cities is hideously underrated on this board. Great seeing a thread about it.

I love M83 (though I usually wouldn's say that here out of fear of being shit posted into oblivion), and I saw them live a few months ago and they were great.

Idk about Anthony being considered a genius though. My vote for if someone would be looked back on like that would be Kanye.

not gonna happen.
also you are underaged. It's a bad thing to be looked back on as a kurt cobain. a shitty musician (who's music i like) who embodied a counterculture that died by suicide... do you want to be remembered as a temporary conduit for social change or do you want to be remembered as a genius or revolutionary?

the only kurt cobain of our time i can think of is amy winehouse. she made good pop music (as did kurt) and killed herself (accidentally as opposed to a shotgun blast to the dome) at 27.

kanye, dave grohl, beyonce, chris martin, thom yorke, taylor swift, katy perry, kendrick lamar, and the other popular names of our time, those are the people that will be remembered, like it or not.

maybe if brittany howard of alabama shakes kills herself she'll be the next kurt.

either way fuck you you 15 year old faggot

Oh shit nigger, that was salty.
And if that's true, fuck my life. Because I hate every damn one of those musicians (except Kendrick). I don't get it, why are they geniuses? Why do people think they are geniuses, and why WILL people think they are? They play CGD on an acoustic guitar singing about ex's, or are full-blown retards like Kanye.

What makes you think he isn't? He's a wizz at the analog modular synth, he writes catchy music, he's explorative, he pushes bounds, his music is epic and larger-than-life, etc.
And what makes Kanye a genius? Or rather, why do other people think he is? I think he's literally retarded. Heard his song Bound 2, and I nearly shit at how terrible it was. Truly didn't believe it was real at first.

because the music of today's pop culture is manufactured and sculpted to have as broad an appeal as possible in exchange for a complete lack of individuality. i wasn't saying they would be remembered as geniuses though. was frank sinatra a genius, really? maybe but i doubt it. he was just a good singer. with today's technology you don't have to sing well so executives can just pump the soma straight into your eardrums. I love dead cities man, but it just won't happen. The future classic rock is foster the people, imagine dragons, mumford and sons, that guy who sings SAIL, arcade fire, the killers, who knows. But it ain't M83 except for midnight city. that song will be around.

life as a realist is suffering. get out while you can

I literally just don't understand. It;s not that I'm trying hard to be independent and "original" but truly, I can't stand pop music. I honestly want to hear someone who likes this music EXPLAIN to me why they do. I can't think of any reasons. For example, if you asked me why I like what I like, I can go on for days about textures, about theory and how clever they were at changing modes, the dynamics of the music, layering, etc... But pop music has none of that, so what would their explanation be..? That "it's just catchy"? Nothing more?

I just feel like music can be so much more...

>That guy who sings Sail.

Awol Nation. I actually like them, desu. And most of the bands you mention in THIS post (not really so much the people from the other post). But that said, I'm not crazy about them.
