Unpopular opinions

be sincere

tupac was worse than average

Radiohead is a mediocre band

that's not an unpopular opinion

Lose Yourself is a legitimately great song and is easily one of the best hip-hop songs ever. Not unpopular irl but unpopular on Sup Forums.

There are unpopular opinions, and then there's just being wrong

Pitchfork was a great site until 2011

what are your favorite hip-hop albums? there aren't bad opinions, only uninformed ones. the reason plebs think that is because they haven't been exposed to much hip-hop. I'm guessing the same goes for you.

I've listened to over 5 pages worth of hip-hop albums on rym. I never said it was THE greatest, simply that it's one of them. Eminem as a whole wouldn't be in the running for my personal list of greatest hip-hop artists.

But if you need to know, Ready to Die is the album I've returned to the most. Mind Playing Tricks on me is the song that springs to mind when I think of a favorite all-time song.

Coldplay has a couple great albums.

Mount Eerie is a bad album.
Kanye West is an utter hack.

>Lose Yourself is a legitimately great song
Yeah

If you're still here user, whatever you would've recced would be appreciated.

Lose Yourself is definitely one of the best hip hop songs of all time, and that's coming from someone who listens to a lot of hip hop. I still love Em, and I rank him highly, definitely one of the best, but it definitely frustrates me that people rank him as THE best. He's up there, but imo you can't really give that spot to one person. There's so many great rappers out there.

>Kanye West is an utter hack
Uneducated opinion.

American football is shit and boring

What kind of hip hop do you like? I'm not that user but I can rec you some albums if you like.

As soon as a new band or album becomes "mainstream" it automatically becomes shit. I know im in the wrong on this, but as soon as TPAB became "mainstream" I couldnt listen to it, without seeing twitter post like "omg this is so deep" going through my brain. THE PEOPLE THAT OSTRIZIED ME BECAUSE I LOVED THIS ALBUM NOW LOVE IT FUCK THEM I TOLD THEM TO GIVE IT A SHOT BUT THEY CALLED ME A FAGGOT THEN FIVE MONTHS LATER THEY WERE THE ONES RECOMMENDING IT TO ME FUCK THEM

Different user. Kanye West is a great producer but relies too much on memes and his ego to ever be relevant to me.

You have problems mate.

hurt my ears

I like Crywank's lyrics

>relies too much on memes and his ego to ever be relevant to me.
I'll give you a serious response just because I feel like it.

I don't think he relies on "memes" at all. Nor his ego. I think the ego thing is heavily played up by the paparazzi and the media, and that outside of that persona, he's a down to earth person who wouldn't hurt a fly. I think the whole arrogant, misogynistic, rant filled person he portrays himself as in the public light is a facade and he relies on the shock factor of being an outspoken individual to create a buzz and attention. This is his whole thing. He has to keep doing this throughout his whole career to stay relevant, and it's working for him really well. The only sad thing about it really is that it's made people irrationally hate him. It's quite strange how people can hate someone they don't really personally know, or to blindly believe everything the media tells them about a celebrity figure.

poptimism is the death of music
pop music is 99% absolute shit

Imo Drake and Rihanna are the only ones making decent pop music.

...

Here's an unpopular opinion:

I loathe numerically rating art. Movies, music, you name it. I don't like judging something and finishing it off by slapping a number on it and rating it /5 or /10.

Sure, art can be critiqued and discussed, but I think putting a number on it ruins it. Just for me anyway. If I like something, I like it.

Fuck off Christgau

>I don't like judging something and finishing it off by slapping a number on it and rating it /5 or /10

>finishing it off

not sure where you're getting the idea that something is "finished off" after you rate it. Personally I rate things after 2-4 listens, and I spend about 70% of my time listening to things I've already rated and about 30% to not-yet-rated stuff. It's not like I rate it and just put it away never to be touched again! That's ridiculous. Also, I often re-evaluate things and change their ratings.

kek

I think he is a good person but it's just his music I'm talking about. Maybe it's just MBDTF and Yeezus but I also listened to 808's and heartbreak and I can't get past the lyrics. His instrumentals are superb with really good sampling. Is there any albums I can listen to that might change my opinion about him?

>hurt my ears
>still a 2.5

How fucking bad does something have to be to get a 2 or a 1.5? Like, if "hurt your fucking ears" is a 2.5, that means that everything under 2.5 - Everything in 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, all of those, are somehow worse than "hurt your ears". You can't fucking get much worse than "hurt your ears"!! If something hurts your fucking ears it should be like a 1.0 at most.

Like I said, I don't like it. You do your thing.

I mean his lyrics weren't great in Yeezus, but I still love that album. You're talking to someone who's quite biased, so take that into consideration. I think his lyricism in MBDTF is great. Maybe check out The College Dropout or Late Registration? If you haven't heard them already

I mean fair enough, but you don't need to think of something as "finished off" just because it's been rated.

To be honest I do agree with you somewhat. Maybe one day I'll delete my rym. But for now it's working for me.

I don't like RYM at all either. Again, this is all my opinion, but I just feel like that place reeks of pretentiousness. That and the superiority complex. Sorry user.

The thing with music, and art in general is, I just want to enjoy it in all of it's glory. I don't want to attach a number to it. I just want to engross myself in it, not thinking about the rating I gave it. I know that might sound stupid as fuck, but that's just how I think about it.

Viper isn't a genius just an OCD having sub-par Houston rapper.

I think he's pretty retarded, but I think his aim was so have so many fucking songs the he was bound to make a shit load of sales. Seems it didn't work for him.

this is good

I actually agree, they're edgy and childish but if you look past that then they're very relatable

I'll check them out. Thanks for the rec's and not being overly biased. +rep

I hope you enjoy it. Otherwise if you want to check out some artists signed to him, maybe Pusha T? Personal favourite. Pretty fantastic lyricist imo.

Sup Forums has a shit taste in general and y'all pretend to like shit like Swans, Kayne west and post-ironic meme jazz because you feel superior and special.

kys

I genuinely think that You'll cowards don't smoke crack is a great album

I don't like Swans at all and I freely admit to it. I find it really inaccessible and hard to listen to.

I actually like Swans and don't really like Kanye West. Haven't heard any meme jazz

It's just a wrong one

Yep. You don't make it that far without immense talent. I mean, Johnny Greenwood composes soundtracks for films for fuck sake.

This. Trying too hard to like pop just to be different from how you were when you went through your edgy metalhead/punk phase and used to call Lil Wayne or whoever musical cancer is just stupid and it doesn't make your music taste better. Just find the line between being a normie and you when you were 12 and a fucktard; there is one there, trust me.

I legitimately dislike Niggas On the Moon

In fact, I think it's one of the weaker albums in their discography

It's my least listened to DG album.

how can it hurt your ears if its one of the most tame and boring shoegaze albums

I really like I Hate My Life by Theory of a Deadman. The lyrics are admitedly stupid but it's a relatable song and it's funny in a way, not a 'hurr durr I am so much better than this buttrock singer with his stupid fucking goattee and stupid stupidness", it's just funny and truthful in a way. Daughtry is a good band. ICP isn't that fucking bad, they're kinda like less good Gwar. Their lyrics are pretty amusing plus I admire their originality. Heathens is a nice song. I literally cannot remember a single song off TPAB aside from King Kunta and i. Disco Volante by Mr. Bungle is a hunk of garbage but their other albums are excellent. (GI) is fucking trash, Abolescents' self titled and Living in Darkness by Agent Orange are much more deserving albums of all that critical acclaim that (GI) got. Also fuck Tool are so fucking boring dude. They're cool for like a year when you're 12 but fuuuuuuckkk they're just not all that special. I legitimately think those people who obsess over Tool and have been fans for 10+ years or whatever are autistic. Fuck Maynard James Keenan too, what a fucking douchey shitball, he isn't cool for hating his fans and for ignoring them. Acting like he's a fucking movie star or some shit.

Straight kys please

change headphones, beats by dre are not supposed to be used for good music

>Viper isn't a genius
stopped reading there

Is that unpopular?

I think it's the first Lemon Demon album that's legitimately good and I thought that was the general consensus

If this isn't bait, you've probably got the shittiest taste I've seen on this board in a while. Kys, etc.

Nope. I've seen nothing but praise for it.

It takes more effort to make a good pop song than it does to make a good metal song

That's what I'm saying

Saying it's good isn't an unpopular opinion.

Al Jardine must have lived a sad life because he looked 50 and was tiny when he was 20

>Velvet Undeground & Nico: 5/10
>Bottomless Pit: 5/10
>Grimes - Visions: 4/10
>Loveless: 6/10
>Untrue: 6/10
>Repeater: 6/10

>Jonestown Death Tape: 7/10

fuck off you fucking idiot, loveless is 6.5/10

>arguing over a half point
fucking kek

I think Nirvana were overrated and only loved because of Kurt's suicide sadly. Basically The Pixies for people too afraid of The Pixies.

Sonic Youth are total assholes in interviews and overall not as cool/great as they think they are. Hell even critics give them too much credit.

Billy Corgan seems like a cool guy and Machina 1 and 2 had an amazing concept (essentially it's an Ingmar Bergman style deconstruction of rock music culture).

The Smiths and Sex Pistols are kinda over hyped. Not bad but over hyped.

Kayne West has potential but he makes a total ass out of himself every chance he gets. Kinda like Morrissey!

Oingo Boingo were one of the greatest bands of the 1980s.

Let It Be... Naked > Let It Be

Leonard Cohen can't sing to save his life. But he can write a great song.

Mac DeMarco, and really any of the Beach Goth bands are all ironic sacks of trash with nothing new to say.

Run The Jewels is for white suburban kids with white guilt that are too scared of Death Grips.

I had no idea poptimism was a thing, is it really just like this user said?

6/10 post

actually agree with this, at least among popular/acclaimed hip hop

I'm not sure when exactly it went to crap, but I'd agree with this.

>Leonard Cohen can't sing to save his life. But he can write a great song.

Would his songs sound better sung by anyone else?

I just didn't like it at all with a couple of exceptions.

People hate me because I don't like Guns & Roses

Even worse is adding decimal point grades. Pitchfork is embarrassing.

kek

So, what would something like BROKENCYDE be on your scale if those albums are amongst the worst of all time?

Unless I don't understand your rating system

EL OH EL

Calvin Harris is the greatest electronic music producer in the world right now.

Better than Max Martin
Better than Burial
Better than Aphex Twin
Better than Vladislav Delay
Better than Éliane Radigue
etc.

I sincerely like swans, I don't listen to the other two though. Different strokes for different folks, user

Eminem is actually liked on Sup Forums. Well his 1999-2003 output.

Hey guys I found someone who doesn't have a soul!

You must be a pussy then user.
pleb
No shit user.
Agreed
Oh did Frank Black scream a little loud for you? KYS

I think Beefheart fucking sucks, but not because he's 2deep4me. I just hate his sense of humor.

Well, The Sex Pistols had an 18 month career and in that time packed 5 years of photo ops and controversy into it. Also got discovered by mainstream U.S. very late so if you had known about them then yeah I can see feeling that way.

This
Dylan's music is just really bad
Most overrated musician of all time imo

Oh the flip side I think that pop is the best genre right now and that 2000's pop is just classic and everything that music should be

i guarantee half the music you listen to falls under the pop genre. while i agree radio pop is trash, pop is a massively diverse genre that encompasses a fuckton of Sup Forums core albums. {{uneducated}}

Swans is a boring regurgitation of every "experimental rock" trope of indie rock of the last 20 years and, like Animal Collective, signal the last dying gasp of creativity in modern rock. They just lack the spark, and hide their lack of ideas in excessive length. Post-rock is boring as shit, "noise" and "drone" are some of the most tropey things in indie now, and overall it's just the epitome of the idea that the avant-garde has conventions just like any other movement.

>Oh did Frank Black scream a little loud for you?
No I just thought most of the songs were tacky as fuck. La La Love You was the worst one for that.

I don't like Dylan. Most of his albums are 4-5/10, Blood on the Tracks is a decent 6,5/10.

Beatles is boring.

Soundtracks is the best Can album.

Surf's Up is a 8/10.

This is actually so boring

Robert Christgau is the greatest living rock critic

You make some great points. I think you've convinced me. Bob Dylan is a bad musician.

lmao

Calm down, I wasn't trying to convert anybody.
I'm allowed to not like Dylan. I won't detail why I don't like him because in my experience Dylan fans don't want to hear it. Very rabid fanbase

So you have no argument.

Well, I wasn't trying to argue in the first place.
Fine, I'll bite.
The music of Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 revisited are boring and very cliched blues rock without any of the drive or excitement of good rock and roll.
His lyrics are really pretentious, and while I understand that he was basically working in surrealism, by any real literary measure he was a bad poet and, in my opinion, a worse songwriter. His voice is just bad to listen to and he doesn't have the charisma or intensity as a singer to keep his nonsensical narratives interesting, like, he doesn't play with rhythms and timing or anything so it's very monotonous and boring. His songs go on far too long for what they are, and he always insists on giving his harmonica a nice blowjob on every track.

isn't this part of mucore?

definitely not unpopular

>Run The Jewels is for white suburban kids with white guilt that are too scared of Death Grips.

fucking lol this is so true

none of these opinions are unpopular at all, but they're all true

I was honestly just b8ing you but its kind of funny seeing you try to justify your personal preferences with recycled arguments. It's fallacious and pretty much impossible to decide if music is "objectively" good or bad. Just like whatever you like. Bob Dylan can't be good or bad as long as everyone has varying opinions on him. Feel free to dislike his music
