Thoughts on musicians changing their names because they think it's racially insensitive and the politically correct thing to do? Does it affect your opinions about them as a band?
Personally, I will literally delete/disregard your entire discography and not care if the music is actually good. If you change your bands name for any reason related to politics and the sensitivity of people then you should consider ending your career and becoming a waiter for the rest of your life.
it comes down to your artistic integrity vs. willingness to bend to keep your career alit within the mainstream
Joshua Diaz
Has Gogol Bordello been forced to stop calling themselves gypsy punk yet? Dat nigga 1/8 at best
James Smith
if this move ends up getting the artist farther in their carreer then by not changing their name, then it works. in reality, it shouldn't fucking matter what name you call yourself but if your fanbase mostly consists of politically correct millennials, you better appease them
Juan Johnson
Vietnam cong changed it because places were cancelling gigs over the name. Pretty rediculous as one of the founders of post punk (joy division) had an extremely offensive name
Nathan Brown
If your petty enough to stop listening to an artist over something as inconsequential as a name change then you're just as bad as the illiberal bastards harrassing them to change it in the first place.
Eli Thomas
how is joy division an offensive name?
Owen Johnson
I really don't care
Andrew Young
don't blame the band for it. except andrew jackson jihad
Nathaniel Martin
Joy division was the name given to the group of Jewish prisoners in auschwitz working as prostitutes for the German soldiers
Mason Torres
Who would get offended over fictional Nazi prostitutes?
"Comfort Women" would definitely get boycotted, but Joy Division not so much
Alexander Wood
>House of Dolls is a 1955 novella by Ka-tzetnik 135633. The novella describes "Joy Divisions", which were groups of Jewish women in the concentration camps during World War II who were kept for the sexual pleasure of Nazi soldiers. I guess people were more interested in listening to the fucking music back then instead of fact-checking every artist name though
Kayden Taylor
think of all those Romani who are into the American hip hop scene or all the vietnamese who listen to canadian post punk that have been offended over the years. its only the right thing to do
isn't a big part of the gypsy culture being a mutt of different ethnicity?
Camden Smith
If I recall right though, they chose the name more or less because Joy Division is a slang term for genitals.
Austin Cruz
I think you're confusing them with Throbbing Gristle
Xavier Hughes
don't think they should be pressured into changing their names but don't think a name change is a huge deal anyway
Daniel Price
Would we still be talking about pic related if they kept their name as The Golliwogs?
Bentley Carter
Wait Andrew Jackson Jihad changed name? To what?
Robert Mitchell
AJJ
Parker Gutierrez
That's incredibly stupid.
Justin Bennett
The thing about that is if they just kept calling themselves AJJ from now on without doing the whole post about why they did it most of us probably wouldn't have batted an eyelid at it.
Matthew Baker
kek
Austin Powell
>Tonight I should have stayed at home >Playing with my joy division What did he mean by this?
Matthew Clark
Hey baby wanna see my Joy Division
Owen Gonzalez

Zachary Jackson
Nigga, if you are too afraid to the people feels about your stage name just pick a random harmless name. I also think there are guys who choose offensive names only to get popular among the underground habitat and then, after achieve success instantely apologize and proceed to trash your band name

I LOVE being in control of CIS males. Makes me feel hot when I dress up as a dominatrix and brow beat them.
Charles Nelson
Gypsies are fucking disgusting and do not deserve respect.
Hudson Wilson
>noname gypsy Literally who?
Tyler Perez
How can a person without a name change his name?
Adrian Allen
Meanwhile in Minneapolis, Gay Witch Abortion continues their streak of underground success
Elijah Miller
A good one related to what OP said (a little) is Foetus. Originally they were called "You've Got Foetus On Your Breath" - a better name. But I guess they wanted to have a more appropriate name for the mainstream that they were about to storm. lol.
I think any band or group that does it at all is irritating. I mean look at these cunts:
i'd still think the music is good if i liked it in the first place but i would deeply disrespect such cucks.
John Bell
>I guess yeah unless you have proof you're wrong. foetus is shorter and cleaner
Liam Nelson
They're pussies. An artist is supposed to be provocative. Give an inch and they take a mile.
>Y-you don't like it? O-ok what about now?
Caleb Cooper
proof of what?
Brody King
that thats the reason why he changed his name
Ryan Ross
Foetus went with that name because he kept changing it a bunch. There was Foetus Corruptus, Foetus Inc, Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel, and others. The one common thing was Foetus, and it made sense to go with that name since that's what people were referring to him as anyways
Landon Williams
Changing Andrew Jackson Jihad and Viet Cong is retarded, but "Noname Gypsy" I sort of understand. I'm not a SJW but she didn't know that some people associate very negative connotations with the term "gypsy".
It'd be like if you named your band Nasty Niggers somehow without knowing that "nigger" was often used insultingly.
I guess my logic is weird. I think if someone intended to name their band Nasty Niggers knowing full-well what they were doing, then changing it would be pathetic. But if they somehow didn't, then it's fine to change, since it goes against their initial intent.
James Long
you new here? yeah i'm aware. just like the original best.
Ryan Watson
damn it must be hard making time to form opinions, post on Sup Forums, and finish up your summer reading for 9th grade.
Joseph Ortiz
I think Andrew Jackson jihad changed their name because they don't wanna piss off any damn terrorists
Caleb Price
>grrr an artist decides to change their name after realizing that it's offensive to a sizable group of people, this PISSES me off! >start incoherent rant about SJWs, colleges, and anita sarkeesian
Alexander Bell
I don't get how they thought using the abbreviation would stop people from calling them Andrew Jackson Jihad
Anthony Morgan
>these people have thoughts >about a thing
Ethan Perez
