Post late night music.

who here /wriggleslikeafuckineel/? bird seed is such a fun album [outside of that mini buyers market thing], we seriously need less noise that focuses on being dark and scary and more thats just bouncing with energy and screaming

>Don Cherry - Eternal Rhythm
sorry but i gotta suck cherry's dick again this is way too good
its got SONNY SHARROCK for fucks sake why does cherry always collab with the best jazz cats

probably gonna do either Dedalus or Snakefinger next

Dedalus is quite bland jazz rock, listen to Gong instead. That's majestic and funny as hell.

Yes I am. I shall be the only pasta eater in these threads.

need to get around to this. I haven't enjoyed much Autechre in the past but I've heard a lot of great stuff about this.

the dude had some really creative and unique chops that are sometime lost in the background of some pieces. Try this out: youtube.com/watch?v=vnVjpymrbIY
Idk how familiar you are with the instrument (I only played for around a year) but it's oddly hypnotizing. Every 5 seconds is a new unique fill. Probably has to do with the fact that the dude often had a large and expansive set for the time.

I'm glad you asked me specifically about that one because that's probably the only one I could explain other than "they dun gud"

>Here's the thing about Keith
>He had some serious chops

Don't know what else you want me to say buddy. Sorry I chose a drummer you dislike to your own question. Why do you dislike him?

(on the beat)

If you could back in time and visit one historic music scene, what would you go to?

No Wave era New York and the peak of post-punk sound rad as hell.

Barking was basically Underworld playing ketchup with the dance game, wasnt it? With Barbara on the other hand they're going for a different, refreshing approach, reinventing themselves, abandoning their roots, returning to the source pool, synonyms for /that/ but idrk tbqh, and somehow made a worse album. *shrug*
Choice cuts tho: Low Burn

Wormed and Carnifex didn't stick upon first listen, and made me think i might wanna listen to earlier releases again just for the sake of comparison, but nay
^im predicting i'll feel the same way about Zebrahead and Billy Talent desu

exactly that, and i would start a band "within" it, and play what would later have become Deathcore
essentially taking Gira's place

>Dedalus - s/t
Pretty standard 70s jazz prog rock stuff. it has some really good moments but for the most far it's mildly interesting without too much going on. it's quite forgettable as well. could use some vocals. i should lower it to a 5 but im too lazy now

in case triangle triangle triangle doesnt have enough reasons to hate my taste already, here's what i think about greener poseurs

>Snakefinger - Greener Postures
what a disappointment this was! i was excited to finally listen to the guitarist that inspired and played with the residents for a lot of their 70s stuff. just imagine combining the sound of Fingerprince with The Commercial Album, and give it a more zolo/new wave direction. there are a few interesting moments in here (the man in tthe dark sedaaaan, as well as the closer, which features a really cheesy conversation between The Residents' vocalist and Snakefinger and an actually good song takes form towards the middle of the track) but mostly its basically a mediocre zolo/post-punk album.

snakefinger sounds like some late 70s metal/hard rock musician that decided to jump in on this cool post punk and new wave things that were going on. at least that's what his voice sounds like. he's a great guitarist, but this doesn't do him justice. This is basically what the residents would sound like if they gave up and tried going mainstream in 1980.

rod yer RYM review reminded me that I really have to listen to Happy Days

also I'm out of town so here are some chartless reviews

Texas Is the Reason - Do You Know Who You Are? (1996)
>midwest emo

Nothing much to say about this one, I liked it, but it didn't make really an impression on me at all. Just a totally serviceable but still middle of the road emo album. Picks up a whole lot when it gets punkier and more akin to bands like I Hate Myself or Power of Falling-era Mineral, but the twinkly midwest sound they have is overwrought and whiny, even more so than other emo. A nice edition to my sad suburban teenage boy canon, but nothing all too special, even if some songs are great.

2.5

yes you should. if you're just getting into jim's drone stuff, it's a must. it's like Bad Timing meets Tony Conrad.

Elliott Smith - Heaven Adores You (2016)
>singer/songwriter, indie folk, indie rock, film soundtrack

It's still Elliott, so there are some great tunes here, but this is a very poorly sequenced album with a lot of songs that I couldn't see being appealing to anybody besides die-hard (SUPER die-hard) fans. The great songs here, like "LA" and "Happiness", already are on previous albums in the same format, and alternate versions of songs like "Let's Get Lost" and "Coast to Coast" aren't anything special. The only alternate version here that's really interesting is Heatmiser's take on "Christian Brothers", which is already one of my favorite songs by Smith, but the whole noise rock sound added with the whole band is incredible. Rounding out the soundtrack are some live performances and untitled demo songs. The live "Say Yes" is nice, but I always thought that was one of the weaker tracks on Either/Or anyway, and the live "Miss Misery" is ruined by the quality. The demos range from actually quite good (track 7) to laughably bad, but still really adorable in a way ("I Love My Room). Spotty as absolute fuck, and a chore to get through as a whole, but if you already like Smith, there are some good tracks here, but we're talking like 4 tracks out of 20.

2.0

oh god that sounds amazing, I'll check it out when I get home.

If they took this away from his official discog on RYM (as they should) it would all be bolded. Shit kinda sux :/

i no get :(

I know, he was basically the only artist on RYM with more than 2 albums that had all bold albums. him and Godspeed, but Asunder took that away.

also I feel the same way about McCartney, shit album, incredible cover.

I'll take a photo of my space is the place spot when I get home or you can google it, but the vinyl sleeve is 90 degrees turned and the image is much longer, so that you see his whole body

>snakefinger
>5
shite onion. Greener postures is essentially a spiritual successor to the Hardcore Devo sound blended with the avant-garde lyricism of the Residents.
In many ways it's a much more streamlined and cohesive early Residents album. I wouldn't call it a 'mainstream' version though.

they shittied up Star Trek TOS on netflix with a bunch of crappy CGI >:^T

i never post here but is it cool/trendy to listen to 80s extreme metal, 1st wave and proto-death demos?

fuck they're george lucasing it

dope

Going through my dad's vinyl stash now that I have a turntable
Presently enjoying the White album, next up I'll be listening to George Harrison's All Things Must Pass and Milton Nascimento's Milton.
He has a ton of autographed old Christian folk records. Not sure I want to try those.
Oh shit I just remembered he has a record from the 70s that he plays drums on
I gotta spin that bad boy next

like?

Anti-bullie, 80s dance beats, transgender speech at the end

A more "patrician" gay choice

>transgender speech
the fuck is that
is it like a trans person speaking
or is it some speech about trans rights just kind of thrown in
i haven't heard the album so i kind of want to know

You could just listen to it

Basically it's from an award acceptance speech from a transgender director about how when she was younger he thought he could never be loveable because he believed he was a freak, but now she has the courage to say she is loveable
Really nice, through me off the first time I heard it back before I was starting to 'become' gay

That was quite interesting, but I guess viennese school is not exactly my thing. Probably because of the domination of string instruments, which I like and enjoy, but probably rather as an accompaniment.

Music for pussies who cry during movies?

My Little Airport - 在動物園散步才是正經事
Quite Ok, don't really have much to say about this one, didn't really command my attention as something like Belle and Sebastian are able to

Obloko Lodka - Obloko Lodka
much the same story with My Little Airport, didn't grab me any, it's certainly agreeable, but everyone and their mum and their mum's kitchen sink is doing something similar
especially in Australia, where this comes from... if it isn't this it's some form of Tame Impala ripoff

Rocketship - A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness
Something about this one in particular is lovely, think it might be the droney/shoegazy aspect of the music, it's combination with twee is very nice

that's it. finished
