I NEED BAROQUE MUSIC

I'm a big fan of French baroque, especially of Rameau, and I am in need of new musical content for my ears. I've already listened to nearly all his operas and pièces de clavecins. I also quite enjoy Lully, Destouches, Mondonville, Rebel, Campra, etc. ,and outside of French baroque, I quite enjoy the obvious like Purcell, Handel, Bach, etc.

So is there any good french baroque music I should listen to, and, if not, any just general baroque music? I'd prefer more ''obscure'' suggestions and not just the likes of Mozart.

Here's a gem I found on Sup Forums a few months ago composed by pupil of Lully, Jean Rebel "Les Elemens"

Forqueray is good

Couperin is classic

De Visee wrote some pretty good lute music as well, very distinctly French

Marais: master of gamba. Second in orchestration only to Lully

Leclair has written some very virtuosic peices for the violin, which is more gallant than Baroque

Blavet is the French version of Quantz

Chedeville is known as Vivaldi's copycat

The Philidor family had been a long history of serving as musicians in the French royal court

I'm sure I could find more for you but these are what's off the top of my head.

That one was pretty good. Thanks :)

Already knew about Marais and Couperin, but weren't aware of the others. It's all pretty amazing stuff, especially Leclair and Blavet thanks user.

wow that piece starting at 4:15 was pretty good

I liked that Marais piece as well. The march kind of sounds like Lully's Air des Pirates,

some Visee for OP:

How familiar are you with Corelli and Vivaldi? I know they are not really obscure but I feel that some of their works are better remembered than others.

Recommended listenings for Vivaldi:
>Op. 1 trio sonatas
>Op. 3 concerti grossi
>Op. 4 violin concertos
>Op. 9 violin concertos
>Concerto Madrigalesco
>two Il Santo Sepolcro concertos
Recommended listenings for Corelli:
>Op. 2 chamber sonatas
>Op. 4 trio sonatas
>Op. 5 violin sonatas
>Op. 6 concerti grossi

I'm somewhat familiar with Vivaldi, but not with Corelli, thanks for the suggestion.

For a first impression, the chamber sonatas are pretty enjoyable.

Excellent suggestions. I'll add to this for Vivaldi:

And for Corelli:

Whoops, also meant to reply to you.

Corelli's early work was a little too plain for my taste. But when the violin sonatas Op. 5 came out in 1700, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole opus has a virtuosic, playful sound, and a new sheen of masterful control of the fiddle that really gives the sonatas a big boost. He has been compared to Biber, but I think Corelli has a far more lighthearted, delicate sense of harmony.
