What's the best recording of Handel's Messiah? I've been meaning to give the whole thing a listen and I want my first time to be special.
Asher Jenkins
Hey /classical/, I don't usually frequent these threads but yesterday I heard Debussy's String Quartet in G Minor and absolutely fell in love. What else can you recommend me that sounds like this, particularly the second movement?
Are there any composers who make music like this? I've never been able to find anything like it.
Andrew Peterson
>hey connoisseurs, what video games are these composers??11 xxDxDDD
John Fisher
i get it....you're not knowledgeable enough to name even one........he he he
Luis Collins
You might be interested in minimalist music e.g. Arvo Part
Christian Ward
stop the meme that minimalism =/= arvo part
you say vladimir godar, i say catherine christer hennix! you say john taverner, i scream la monte young and marian zazeela! you say john adams, i say charlemagne palestine! you say henryk gorecki, i punch you in the fucking face!! thubs up this comment if youre one of the teens who still listens to TRUE MINIMALISM
All of the best composers are men. There are like 3 or 4 even slightly notable females in the history of music. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Brayden Bailey
/classical/ might have the highest concentration of gays on Sup Forums outside of /lgbt/
Christian Ward
If you play a hazy recording of a hazy Debussy piece will fog suddenly start pouring out of your speakers?
im asking for a friend
Nathaniel Brooks
Bach is the greatest.
Gavin Bennett
>me thinks >doth
Justin Hernandez
>retard hasn't read shakespeare
Parker Ramirez
Autist
Connor Jenkins
You're autistic, actually.
Mason Evans
>retard thinks quoting Shakespeare makes him smart
Ryan Johnson
You're retarded for not realizing it.
Brandon Ross
You eat the penises
Leo Martinez
I won't argue with that.
Levi Martin
I realized it but you're still a fedora in the first place.
Michael Torres
And you're a closet homo.
Dylan Wood
Gubaidulina is my favorite working composer and I'm gay as hell so the jokes on you, eh?
Gavin Hill
I'll take what is autocorrect for 500 Alex
Liam Johnson
She's one of the three or four exceptions.
Sebastian Thompson
Damn you're a faggot
Nathaniel White
No, u are. XD
John Brown
Very true regarding composition, but women seem disproportionately good at musical performance, both in instruments and voice. Not by a huge margin, but it's there
Jaxon Barnes
The sexes seem about equal when it comes to performance nowadays (as far as I've seen)
Ryan Rodriguez
Ok... Kaija saariaho, hildegard von bingen, and, Ruth Crawford Seeger?
Liam Bell
I was thinking Hildegard, Barbara Strozzi, Lili Boulanger and Sofia Gubaidulina. Those other two might be fair to mention as well (though Saariaho is very contemporary)
Anthony Clark
Von Bingen is the only one of those that is good.
Michael Gutierrez
>von memegen >good
Jace Mitchell
You're forgetting Clara Schumann.
Charles Barnes
There's also Amy Beach and Lili Boulanger. One of Les Six was a grill but I don't remember her name (lmao) and Cecile Chaminade who is only notable for writing a flute piece that every flautist plays at one point.
Logan Butler
I appreciate the music, but do I just pick one and go with it?
Henry Carter
Mainly known as a performer and wife of famous composer
Dominic Turner
What?
Connor Sullivan
You might as well.
Parker Turner
There's like a hundred different files and that's just in the first mega. And some are the same pieces just different recordings? And why are the file sizes so big? Is it flac? I mean, because they're large I have to sort of pick and choose.
So my question was, do I just go with one and hope I like it? I imagine these guys all have different styles and then the the players have different styles as well.
Kevin Harris
You can listen to stuff on youtube and if you like it download it from one of the links
Cooper Hughes
Well presumably you might have a piece in mind and you would maybe find and download it from those mega folders
How do you guys tag this stuff? Do you put the composer in the Artist tag? If not, then how do you usually search for it?
William Morris
There is a composer tag you know.
Christian Turner
i put the composer in the album artist tag
Josiah Sanchez
Right, but I mean, when you wanna go find it, you can't just type Beethoven cause that's the not performer/orchestra.
Jeremiah Smith
Actually I'm being dumb. There's the tags, then there's the "Sort by" tags where you can change the sort by artist by the composer while leaving the artist tag intact.
Christopher Morgan
>you can't just type Beethoven cause that's the not performer/orchestra ?
Benjamin Richardson
Listen up I hate you fucks whenever I talk to girls and tell them Im doing classical they find it a turn off because they imagine a bunch of weirdos, and it's the truth you fucking faggots are terrible I hate having to see you lot fuck cunts. Litreally seen people having classical on ther ipods and there all been faggots, ugly nerdy faggots.
Julian Ross
Sup Forums is not your blog.
Dylan Turner
listen to you, you're all miserable because you so badly want females to like you. how pathetic. why do you even care lmao
Carson Phillips
I've read somewhere the EMI one is supposedly good, too? Anyways, didn't know about that Oxford version, gonna give it a shot.
Caleb Garcia
I'm really mad that Stacy won't let me fuck her because I play classical music and Chad the alpha jock gets to fuck her instead.
Robert Richardson
lol You have shit social skills
btw Am guy with the story about the girl named Sonnet
Idk man I've literally made normie girls far more interested in me because I'm an /obscure/ artist as you put it.
Make them laugh or feel good emotionally and they wont give a fuck what you like, or may even fuel their interest more.
How do you think ugly fuckers who have no money or have much of anything special still fuck somewhat good women? Its jsut fucking emotions. Make them laugh, make them feel somewhat special, as well as teasing the fuck out of them at the right moments and youll get them plenty wet.
Stop being an assperg, there is plenty of literature and research about social dynamics that could possible help the most inept out there.
Holy shit theyre just other intelligent apes like yourself, stop being an idiot.
Evan Adams
>no more bogposting >threads immediately turn to shit
Lincoln Martin
I can shitpost about the /classical/ qts stories I have if you'd like while at the same time bringing some coherent discussion.
So when I was in highschool I fell in /love/ (it was really an obsession) with thise girl who's mom was a /classical/ singer and therefore had some influence from art music, shit was cash, I would hang out with her mom sometimes just because musical interests. One time after we broke up being a >madman I actually went over to her house to get help from her mom about my compositions I was submitting to the conservatories. Her fucking reaction of seeing me in her house after shit had gone down pretty badly like 6 months before was fucking priceless. Bitch tried being my friend another 6 months down the line by wanting to sit next to me in a waterpolo game, I said sure. I put in my headphones and starting listening to some liszt and she got the message and fucked off .
Fucking cunt hurt me badly, and it led to me composing one of the pieces my professor was impressed by, that I submitted.
Cunt, shes all ugly now.
ANYWAY
Anyone else have that shitty thing about listening to "new music", like I want to discover more great things but then just don't even listen to new things or peoples recommendations?
I used to refuse to listen to >Depussy and then I did and practically came.
Evan Phillips
I don't care.
Ryder Phillips
>caring about bogposting
>refusing to read bloggy shitposts As if there is a difference
Also answer my question.
Anyone else have that shitty thing about listening to "new music", like I want to discover more great things but then just don't even listen to new things or peoples recommendations?
I used to refuse to listen to >Depussy and then I did and practically came.
Anthony Peterson
I'd accept that for some instrumental groups e.g. strings; but for piano and clarinet that statement's simply false. While precise, female performances in piano tend to be either dry or drowned in expressive hyperbole.
Julian Perez
Man, it's too bad spotify doesn't support that tag. Or at least that it's not accessible though libspotify.
Probably gonna go through his requiem once I've got my Bach fix
Nolan Smith
What Handel should I listen to?
Cooper Evans
Messiah and Water Music
Parker Rodriguez
Scherchen or Christie.
Connor Edwards
Man the Missa Salisburgensis is some pretty good stuff. What's some other good Biber besides the Rosary sonatas?
Sebastian Murphy
>Requiem ex F con Terza minore* >Missa Bruxellensis >Harmonia artificioso-ariosa* >8 Violin Sonatas (1681)* >Fidicinium Sacro-Profanum >Sonatae tam aris, quam aulis servientes >Mensa Sonora >Battalia >Sonata representativa >Harmonia Romana Some of the early balleti are interesting listens. I especially like the one with the drunken nightwatchman's song interrupting a passacaglia (which was, coincidentally, referenced in a Snodgrass poem: poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/detail/41998 ) I'm not as well versed on his sacred music, so there are several other masses and a requiem that I haven't really listened to. He also wrote one surviving opera, Arminio.
I can recommend recordings for most of these.
Nathan Cox
Thanks Cal. What recording of the requiem would you recommend?
Justin Johnson
...
Eli Brooks
Cool...
Ian Williams
how the fuck do you name your classical music folders?! >composer - recorded works [conductor/musicians - date recording] [label catalog
Isaac Robinson
Jeez. What the fuck? See
Hudson Phillips
>forgetting about kassia
Angel Murphy
I didn't forget.
Nathaniel Reyes
>one of the first medieval composers whose score are intact and readable LOL I DIDNT FORGET GUYS SHE JUST SUX
