1. The music is never intricate. 2. The best beats are just samples of better music. 3. The lyrics are shallow and too often fall back on tropes like drugs, sex, money, etc. Basically just edgy amateur poetry. When rap tries to be political its message is just a truism (racism is bad, we should help poor people, etc.).
Rap can be catchy and fun, but ultimately the best rap music can't compete with the best of other genres like jazz, classical, or even rock.
Joshua Stewart
This goes without saying, people just listen to rap ironically so just delete the thread

Sex, drugs, and rap? Something's not right here.... Also kek at thinking rock is more intricate than hip hop how retarded are you?
Liam Gomez
Why even listen to music when the good things in life like success and books are better
Josiah Diaz
You made fallaciously assume that intricacy equates to quality, when in reality, it does not necessarily. You are right that rap is bad, though.

Hardly even listen to rap but rock music is literally the same thing over and over, love songs and sad songs always about drugs or alcohol, no different from rap.

>the music is never intricate Intricate in what sense? Is good music intricate? This critique is useless. >The best beats are just samples of better music Unsubstantiated claim that many would disagree with.
>The lyrics are shallow and too often fall back on tropes like drugs, sex, money, etc. Basically just edgy amateur poetry. When rap tries to be political its message is just a truism (racism is bad, we should help poor people, etc.).
Disregarding the fact that this true for many genres of music, what exactly is wrong with it. There are only so many things that we can talk about.
You're attacking a caricature of rap, please listen to more before you try to criticize it. Because there are problems, these just aren't them.

This
Rap music is fun it's like sports, you have to follow players and the teams they go to, it's all about style
Hip hop listeners are much happier because liking rap music is a legitimate hobby
