Sup Forums i need help finding some extremely complex jazz. some stuff with bizarre time signatures, out there stuff. Stuff that only masters could play. Similar to Trioscapes or some of Kamaso Washington's stuff, preferably with more fervor and drive to it, like jazz a madman with crazy white hair would listen to. Google had Kendrick Lamar as a related artist to kamasi for fucks sake. Spotify had Flying Lotus. Please help me find some stuff, preferably obscure.
Crazy out there complex jazz

anthony braxton - for alto
Kamasi* fuck
just listen to miles davis mid era and end era albums
also
>he fell for the jazz of the year meme
Dave Holland - Conference of the Birds
also have you heard Giant Steps?
wish there were a little more to it than just a sax lol
ye im new to jazz sorry for le pleb meme
ty
i havent, thank you
>wish there were a little more to it than just a sax lol
wow u know maybe you should start with like, some coltrane or ornette or something lmao
pharaoh sanders - karma
theres nothing visceral and energizing about just a sax
it is skillful and artistic no doubt, but thats not all im looking for. Baselines by Bill Laswell is a good example of what I'm looking for, even more than Kamasj Washington I suppose.Give that a listen for what I'm looking for. Thanks anyway.
>theres nothing visceral and energizing about just a sax
hey maybe you should stick to banal hipster hop for slackjawed stoners that samples alice coltrane u tasteless fuck holy shit
for alto is the most visceral jazz album of all time, brotzmann memers back the fuck off
Washington's solos and his general structure is very boring and pretty ordinary. He's nothing special when it comes to solos or artistry. Check out like Free For All by the Jazz Messengers.
>karma
>complex
kek
listen here fucko
that man is pouring his cum and blood into that sax and thats fucking powerful
but i could shit into a god damn kazoo and it wouldnt be anywhere near as fun and hyped as bill motherfucking laswell or some 5-piece crazy jazz outfit so you can eat your own cock
oh trust me i know kamasi isnt the fucking god of jazz by any means, but im still trying to /into/ jazz so kamasi is one of my only references right now
i mentioned bill laswell earloer, and jaco pastorius is another good example of complicated shit. fuck kamasi for all i care, im trying to find better stuff.
All the "greats" like miles, coltrane, bill evans, mingus, bird are extremely complex. They're so complex they elevated jazz into the spheres of art music. I think you mean hipster pretentious instead of complex. Go back to listening to fleet foxes or swans or mf doom or whatever the fuck you like.
Most pleb thing I've read on here all night congrats
this place always manages to make me feel more autistic than i already am
jazzmen be angry
not angry, just dissapointed desu
If you're looking for some free jazz-esque stuff listen to Fire! and Fire! Orchestra. Both Enter! and Exit! are some of their better works. Fire! is more stripped back with just a trio of players. Orchestra is the same three but with a much larger ensemble behind them including a vocalist.
like this?
>theres nothing visceral and energizing about just a sax
Kamasi Washington fans everyone.
Jaco Pastorious is the equivalent of Steve Vai for bass. Super proficient, but each of them only put out masturbatory bullshit with no substance. Like people here said, Coltrane, Mingus, Davis. Listen beyond the RYM/Scaruffi core releases.
Donny McCaslin was the band leader on Blackstar, and his last two albums (and upcoming one, probably) are pretty good. Stadium Jazz is a definite highlight from Casting for Gravity.
He really like his his descending scales holy shit. No substance at all in these solos god damn.
>what is saxophone colossus
seriously though, how embarassing
What is ascension
Nu males cant into classic stuff
Pick up a Thelonious Monk album, hope he's insane enough for you
Yea first time hearing this I thought it was cool, after a couple more i was like this is too cliche and cheesy
>Google had Kendrick Lamar as a related artist to kamasi for fucks sake
That's because Kamasi played all over TPAB
>Similar to Trioscapes or some of Kamaso Washington's stuff
Kamasi's stuff isn't complex whatsoever. It's jam music.
For complex harmony in jazz Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter. (Darryl Reeve's first album Diary of a Bandstand)

For complex time Time Out or Darryl Reeve's latest album.

This is still me. Try Max Ox. Very underrated and virtually unknown trio: bass, drums, synth. Amazing stuff all around from these guys.

faat tempos and a sound like trioscapes is what im looking for
good stuff suggested so far though, thnaks everyone
have you ever heard of Colin Stetson though?
this album is garbage
Colin Stetson is a literal god. I still can't handle Judges.
Check out Kenny G. No other jazzer has been or will be better than him.
I always thought Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction was amazing, complex jazz.
>Similar to Trioscapes or some of Kamaso Washington's stuff
Figures these kinds of people would come by
Not the guy you're replying to and agree it's a bad rec in terms of what OP specified but if he's a newbie to jazz and wants some crazy shit checking out the free jazz guys like Sanders, Sonny Sharrock, Albert Ayler etc. wouldn't be a bad idea
Later years Coltrane and everything Brotzmann as well.
good recommendation, look into Sun Ra and the Cosmic Arkestra, "cosmic" jazz, very interesting.

Kew. Rhone.
It's kinda jazzy and really complex.
