Very sad
I think my favourite is Stick-Up!

>very sad

considering how sick and tired he looked last year when I saw a live video of him (I believe it was on international jazz day) it is maybe for the best. still one of the greats, and as such a substantial loss for jazz music

this sucks, I never liked the vibes too much but he added so much life to any recording he was on.

I love the stuff he did on Destination Out!

I'm a mess right now. Listened to Dialogue & Total Eclipse constantly back in high school. Him, Evelyn Glennie & Milt Jackson were my fucking inspirations.

literally who

Dialogue and Destination Out! are two of my favorite albums ever. Listening to Dialogue now.

Anybody have any recs for other albums like these ones by other artists?

Steve Nelson - Live session

Damn RIP. Much respect for this great musician

Another great lost, his playing on Out To Lunch! is incredible.

I found out about his death about 5 hours ago. At this point I don't even words to say. I relistened to Dialogue and it's incredible. And not to mention his contributions to the masterpiece Out to Lunch.

2016 has been a horrible year for death and musicians.

im listening to this, and it's great, (freddie hubbard, of course it's great), but the opening samba percussion line would warrant a re-take... the wood block is so fucking off in the first couple bars.

Well this sucks. Love his work with Moncur and McLean, Dialogue, and pic related. One of those where every original with his name on it brought something new to the table.

...

>all these jazz greats are dying off

Should we freeze Shorter and Hancock?

This for Destination Out

This for Dialogue

he played on so many great albums

here are some spiritual jazz vibes from the early 70's

what is a "vibraphone"?

these album covers holy shit so good

Montara is such a chill tune.

A metallophone (NOT a xylophone) with resonators.

Thanks bud

Think "aluminum xylophone" w/ damper pedal & motorized resonators.

Off the top of my head, they also get a fair bit of use in Fiona Apple's "When the Pawn..."

I feel his work on Out to Lunch is kinda overlooked tho, he basically MAKES the album, and it's my favorite jazz album ever.

Destination Out! and Dialogue are so awesome tho...

Dicks out for Bobby

anything with Harold Land is gold anyway
Hutcherson shines all along on this one
