How do i even

I'm trying Sup Forums, i swear i'm trying.

Any advices on how to force myself to listen to it ?

I know there's more than what i think there is to it.

By the way, i'm pretty young, so maybe it's not the right time for me.

...how old r u?

He might be underage, but that doesn't matter. Everyone has different tastes. You don't have to force yourself into an album because someone likes it.

Do you hate yourself at all?

I know music taste is subjective, but since a lot of people here seem to like it so much, i'm interested. I want to know why. Do you like it ?

A lot yeah. Why ?

People like this album because it contains original sounds. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I can say that it's an extremely difficult listen. This album is not for everyone(not in a bad way, not likind this album doesn't make you a "normie").

Listen to Swans' earlier albums first before you listen to Soundtracks. In fact this is good advice for a lot of albums, particularly if you're new to seriously listening to music (which you are).

I would recommend listening to each album in chronological order because I think they're all good, but at the bare minimum, listen to Filth, Children of God, and White Light From the Mouth of Infinity.

then you should have no problem relating to it. Try Swans earlier albums first like I said.

remember these words OP

"You tried so hard and you got so far
but in the end it doesn't really matter"

Don't force yourself and listen what you actually enjoy

Ok going to do that.

Thanks a lot !

>what you actually enjoy
tastes are not static. I don't like the same things that I liked a year ago. A year from now I won't like the same things I like now. But how can you expect your taste to evolve unless you allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone every now and then?

Haha no i don't really mean to force myself and suffer, just you know, try to get used to it.

" Yesterday, he could not make it, he tried hard, but could not make it "

Props to you if you know that song.

Good luck friendo. When I was your age I hated myself a lot too. Swans are utterly perfect for that, especially their first four albums (Filth, Cop, Greed, Holy Money). If you don't like it at first, give it another try, they are certainly all easier to listen to than Soundtracks. My favorite of the 4 is Greed.

True. Music taste resembles to food taste, for example, when i was a kid i hated mushrooms, and little by little i started liking it.

>i don't want to be different and i force myself to listen to music i don't like

17 is not all that young by the way
if it make you feel any better, i'm 23 and i'd rather listen to macarena than swans.

Why do you hate yourselves?

You have no fucking idea of what i've done man. Trust me.

But i don't hate myself enough to commit suicide though.

Not yet.

Not saying you need to be 18+ to appreciate music but YOU have to be over 18 to be on website. Your mom's gonna catch u jerkin ur ding dong to cartoon girls.

My mom's dead.

Sup Forums isn't a secret club. Music has no ages. Moot fucking CREATED this website when he was 15.
I'm sorry for your loss, mate.

wrong thread

?

>find two and a half hours of spare time in your day
>put on album
>listen
>let it go until it's done

Listen to red velvet corridor, helpless child, live through me, mellowthumb, volcano, animus, the sound, empathy, YRP, and the final sacrifice first, make a playlist in itunes or whatever with these tracks in this order, familiarize yourself with their intent, tone, etc. Then listen to the album in full and enjoy the 10/10 experience that it is.

Awful advice.

Why is everyone trying hard to like this? Either you like it or you don't.

Absolute moron who doesn't understand the concept easing a new listener into a fairly inaccessible record.

...

I disagree with this. I always look at it as "there's gotta be a reason so many people like this and I don't". Yeah, sometimes you can see why someone else might like it and it just doesn't align with you but other times I've fallen in love with something that I ignored at first. I'm not saying force yourself either, just give it a few tries or come back to it after some time.

it would be better to just have them listen to earlier swans albums first, by which time they would be prepared for it

Soundtracks was much easier to enjoy than Filth for me.

Really? Filth is full of bangers

Only that not so many people like this album. This album is only popular among a small community of people acquainted to music that is so experimental. If this plays on radio all of a sudden people would be like "wtf is this shit?"

Do you just watch the set pieces of a film before watching the full thing?

Why don't people talk about this much?

Filth is very one dimensional, the vast variety of Soundtracks makes it a lot easier for more people to find a favorite on.

because greed is better

I was also 13 when I tried to listen to it, made it somewhere over halfway. I found Orgasm (cromagnon) and piss noise more bearable.

If you really want to force discipline just go listen to machine free jazz/free improv destruction for 2 years. The earlier you can do it the better

Absolutely but that's what separates music as a hobby and music as a casual sound. You are purposely going out of your way to hear things that you are not used to, so you have to stay open minded and give things a chance. "either you like it or you don't" is how people who don't take it seriously view things.

Thanks for all your advices.

I will try listening to the earlier albums firts and i will try Soundtracks another time.

You guys rock !

y-you too op

It's my favorite swans album behind Cop

tfw my 8 year old cousin, tells me macintosh plus is too experimental for his parents

Don't try to listen to the entire thing at once, if you're just getting into it that won't help. Listen to it maybe 30 minutes at a time. If you have open backed headphones this album really benefits from that. Also you might want to wait until you are in a very calm mood. Just don't force it, if you do it might leave a bad taste in your mouth next time around when you actually would enjoy it.

I will get shunned in Sup Forums for this but it might help jump around their discography to find a song you really like. Find one that you really enjoy then it might help you like there other stuff (trust me, it works). Try listening to "Some Things We Do" or "The Glowing Man" (the song).

Really good advice. I know this kind of contradicts what I said but this give you context for the album, which is pretty important.

Please don't tell me this is real.

>OSTs for the Visually Impaired

god i fucking hate volcano

Because people cant into nowave
>muh ears

It sounds like your head being smashed by hammers

listen to filth and then listen to to be kind, and if you liked either of them, try this again. if you didn't, just listen to more music, and come back to it in a year or so.

Its time to drive that kid to the woods and leave him there

i dont understand why people want to "force themselves" to enjoy an album? why dont you listen to music that you actually like? are you seriously trying to fit in on an online music forum? fucking pathetic

your food taste was better when you were a kid
mushrooms are pleb-tier shit mate

there's a reason people in africa eat catfood and i don't
