Finally nutting up and buying myself a new bass guitar. Will be picking up an EQ pedal as well to experiment with the tones. Any Schecter fans or those that dive off the main road for bass guitars?
have 2 serious guitars, what strings for my dumb Drop Bb 6-string?

buying an eq pedal when you're buying an active bass with a preamp is redundant.
~60, more or less depending on your scale lenght and preference
Easton Robinson
Even if they're passive pickups?
Aiden Parker
what is a good way to get Yngwie style picking down?

>Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker Junior >Sebring Jammer Standard SSB-10 >guitar for five years >bass for one year >was the bassist of Counting Trees Band sorta fell apart >make ambient music as The Ambiguity Been doing this for four years, actually mildly successful at it
I just heard Portrait of Tracy the other day. It's awesome.
Sorta want to put together a demo, even though I suck and I have no material so far.
Brandon Perez
they're passive pickups, but there's an active EQ on that bass. the Ibanez SR50x and up have bartolini(or nordstrand on the really high end I think) pickups if you don't want EMGs.
Isaiah Myers
Thank you for the information, I'll look in to it.
Camden Reed
should I buy pedals even if I'm not good at guitar yet? I hear a good way to learn is by learning songs, and it is hard to imitate sounds with, might I say, orgasmic cleans all the time
Asher Bell
dumb fuck why did you put the /gg/ in the subject box? now the shitters are here
Colton Roberts
just pirate rocksmith 2014 and get the hack so you can just plug the guitar in to your computer's mic jack with an adapter. The simulated effects are shit quality but enough to keep you interested when you're starting out

Mason Morgan
>I don't have any cables to plug into computer with a 6 foot cable for that costs like 5 dollars, and an adapter that goes on the end of a normal cable is even less
Ayden Lewis
Then order one. A cheap one's like $10.
Matthew Anderson
if it is what it takes I will do what I must
Joseph Rivera
>tfw shitter >tfw just searched "/gg/" in catalog

I unironically agree with this sentiment.

In case as anyone cares, I figured out how to turn my 2x12 combo into a 2x12 cabinet. Total cost: ~$80
This will hold me over until I buy a 2x12 Laney and a Orange Rockerverb

Honest question... What the fuck is "shoegaze"?
Lincoln Butler
something we should never talk about
Kayden Adams
In about ten more minutes you can have this deadzone all to yourself, my red assed newfriend.
Cooper Rogers
H-hi /gg/.
Dominic Roberts
I've never listened to shoegaze. I'm listening to loveless because the only thing I know about shoegaze is pedals so far it sounds like gay noise, I could like it if not for the vocals
was about to scream before I saw the slide. what tuning m8 ?
I knew I should have never posted my gear here. I'm out /gg/
Jack Myers
Ok. I wasn't really interested in it, basically because i didnt know what shoegaze was. Now I'm less interested. Thanks for the reply.
Christian Evans
is that supposed to be shoegaze too ? because it sounds like the gay child of surf and new wave. But it's bothering me less than the vocals on Loveless, I always dislike the clash between clean vocals and harsh guitars.
However, I'll probably mod an RG and put some JM pickups in it because it could sound really interesting for black metal.
Parker Foster
Just take a new pic every time to avoid having imposters. I don't understand why people here won't do this, it's a damn simple task for fuck's sake.
Juan Allen

I like flat necks, the pickups in jazzmasters have an interesting tone, what would I lose modifying a guitar to suit my taste, aside from a stranger's approval on the internet ?
There's blackgaze, that might kinda be what you're looking for.

as far as blackgaze goes, I'm not too much into it, I think it tries too hard to be different but doesn't manage to be that interesting either. by dissonant I meant something that relies more on minor second/major seventh clashes and atonal melodies, not necessarily metal influenced
Owen Sullivan
If there is then I don't know any of it. Maybe you should make some.
Juan Morgan
You might be more into noiserock, the cousinr of the reverb/pop infused shoegaze. It has those atonal dissonant elements you're looking for.
Both are in the same family of incorporating walls of sound, elements of texture and distorted, demphasized vocals (generally)
I probably would, if I knew a damn about shoegaze.
sounds more like grindcore meets j-pop to me, but I like it.
pretty sure you're going to need a thicker F#, 8 string sets are stupid and don't put a string thick enough for it. Go for something around .70 for it
Adrian Powell
>he payed 1600 actual dollars for that
James Jones
Gooby you say?
Henry Martin
mah gooby niqquh
Daniel Sanchez
Yeah, I grabbed a dunlop 10-74 set and that enhanced the tone and sustain on the F# considerably. I even tried to get thicker but I'd need the post bored out to fit more than what I've got.
Don't forget to add shipping

So why did randy rhoads picked up the classical guitar? Was he trying to improve his overall guitar technique?
Jackson Diaz

Zachary Morales
i dont get it lad
Connor Lee
which is more cancerous, Metal Guitarists or Modern Prog Guitarists? (prog metal guitarists are an automatic tumor)
He didn't just pick it up; he grew up around classical music and probably had some formal instruction on classical guitar in addition to his electric playing prior to his work with Quiet Riot and Ozzy. Anyway, according to some interviews I've read with Ozzy, Rhoads was either going to quit touring to take up classical guitar full time, or use what he'd learned in his studies to inform his writing with Ozzy's band; apparently Rhoads wanted to add more layered keys/synth parts to the band's music.

Hence, why he was murdered.

Should I buy this?
