Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, honor the life and deeds of Harambe, be at peace with /rym/, and just let the good times flow.
Kevorkian hasn't posted in nearly 3 weeks, so I'm assuming his position, even though I'm a little late. Kevorkian, if you see this, you can choose if you'd rather do it this week anyway or take my spot next week.
The listenalong is Bill Evans & Jim Hall - Intermodulation.
It's on youtube, so there will be a listenalong in approximately 4.5 hours in the plug.
Yep, I know. Mainly because it wasn't on youtube (same for A Symphony of Amaranths), meaning that nobody would listen to it.
Jose Flores
I'm new to listenalongs, what's the aim of it? Where can I do this? How should I rate things? May I join in?
Hudson King
There's a schedule (pic rel). A trip chooses an album each saturday and makes the template. You can listen to it on your own and put you thoughts/score in one of the provided squares. Or you can join in ~3.5 hours time in the plug to listen to it with nearly always around 12 people and put your thoughts in the box after.

Uchū Nippon Setagaya - Fishmans
Wew, this album is really great. Don't wanna write a long review about it but it delivers really well the neo-psychedelia feeling. The problem is that I didn't really like うしろ姿 and Magic Love, they felt a bit unfitting for the album, and Daydream felt a bit empty. But Walking in the rhythm is a 10/10 track and the remaining ones are really good as well.
7.5/10

>6+ to Out to Lunch >5- to Bryter Layter
Please stop
Isaiah Ortiz
sorry. which are the correct scores so that i can fix them? its so hard to get them right these days.
Ryder Phillips
Akuma No Uta should be a 7, thanks for understanding.
David Adams
the fact is that I'm quite baffled at seeing that such an influential and funny record such as Out to Lunch is gets such a low score. I can definitely see BL on the other side, but I admit that's a really personal opinion about the album in question.
>seeing that such an influential and funny record such as Out to Lunch is gets such a low score. >such a low score. >6+ i swear everyone in daily thinks everything below a 7 is a pan
Juan Kelly
well, you see, having a decimal system makes one think that a 6+ is just above plain sufficiency. I don't see it as a pan, but I think it is still inappropriate for that particular album (which, in my list, deserves a 8+ at least)
all this time listening to into the night and now i just realize its jamie doing the vocals in the chorus
we need more xiu xiu songs with his falsetto

A Delicate Manifestation of Things that Go Beep? (2001) by Cornish in a Turtleneck, recommended by trianglecubed
In light of the quality of pastiche, production, and (occasionally) songwriting, the putative backstory to this record - an unearthed relic from a fin de millennium, 60s-worshipping high school band - is difficult to buy into. But more importantly, that context seems to recede into the background altogether. In spite of the unabashed imitations of late Beatles, short-delay vocals, 'authentic' synths etc, it's hard not to be impressed by the record's finer moments.
Those finer moments are the smattering of songs buried within a continuous, flowing, wanky tapestry of Things that Go Beep and endlessly echoing sound effects. It's the self-evident catchiness of songs like 'Walrus in a Trenchcoat' that makes this record more than worthwhile, and anthemic choruses like those on 'Everything's Spiderwebby' that challenge the backstory just by being so... well, mature. It's disappointing that such a short album is diluted more than halfway with 'experiments' in production - another oddly faithful imitation of those 60s originals - that dirty the palette every couple of minutes and prevent the record from binding together, or with the listener. Cornish in a Turtleneck have joined - but not transcended - that elusive pantheon that houses musical curiosities that anybody could or should enjoy.
Thomas Bell
I'm actually waiting for it to download so that I may listen to it. Slow bandwidth is slow.

It's raining today, FUCK THE CORN BUSINESS.
Going to check out the record vendor at the flea market. Usually has some good shit.

I'm back from Paredes de Coura, the weeklong fest I've been at. Saw LCD Soundsystem, which I already knew I was gonna love but surprised me still, and Sleaford Mods which proved even funner live. The rest of the shows were pretty much shit, but I didn't go to the fest for the music anyways.
How has this shitshow been doing for the last week?
Ian Lee
aaaand I forgot my trip. great.
Aaron Mitchell
I need more Bach in my life. What's the best way to tackle all his works?

>How has this shitshow been doing for the last week? Very bad, save us Benji.

Luke Davis
Dead threads. No new good memes. Shit taste? Sure, as always.

It's only normal daily is less active this time of the year. No good memes is terrible, but they'll come around. I'm glad I'll be back listening to music regularly, gonna shitpost this place with my bad and unfounded opinions once again.

Idk, it's still August. Late August but August. I recall autumn and spring being slower than summer though this is already pretty dead. Also will you join us in the blindfold threads? It's just a 10 track playlist you can listen throughout the whole week, I can find the link for it if you're interested. This week's theme is foreign jazz although I'm not sure if that means outside of North America or if it includes Europe or the whole 'Western World' as well.
Luis Gray

What is this? How does it work?

>Listenalongs are dying once again. I wouldn't say that last week's was one of the largest we've ever done we just didn't have much coordination on it this week when kanzler comes back from his trip ( i think in a week or so) they'll get better again
weird question, but you wouldn't have a version of your anonymouse/hampus chart without the ratings on it?
or does anyone have that hampus favorites chart ?

It really helped I think that I was listening to it while delivering pizzas on a rainy night in the dark on a night where we weren't very busy, but it's some of the comfiest shit I've heard in a long time. Would rec
Gavin Smith
Haven't been posting my thoughts on these albums as I was going through since I went on holiday/couldn't be bothered. I'll start posting properly again with my next chart.
Interested to see your thoughts on Clear Spot, I like that one a lot.
Tyler Howard
O nice. I say keep digging into 'spiritual jazz' if you're interested. A lot of people would consider Alice Coltrane essential though I found her releases a bit underwhelming. You can try Journey in Satchidananda if you feel like it, it features Pharoah Sanders but for me it's not enough to save the record. Other than that, if you liked Olé then Africa/Brass might be up your alley too, although it has less of an edge.
And this if you're hardcore.
Wyatt Foster
jerkcity is one word, op
Julian White
Yeah. I'm liking how a lot of it is quite groove based. Thanks for the recs pal, I'll definitely listen to them.

Hope you'll like Mirror Man, it's a total jam
here's to you

It's hard to narrow down spiritual jazz to a few aspects but I'd say a considerable part of it focuses on repetition and a free sound: youtu.be/TFUDrK9GLaQ Mtume in particular is quite an intense record. I think it should be right up your alley if you like Pharoah's sound. It's recorded at the east, same as Pharoah's 'Live at the East' (though not really, Pharoah just recorded with a bunch of musicians from that venue but he did not do it there actually). Here's some info on the record as well as some regarding what I just said: corenyc.org/omeka/files/original/4823c7a9d589da82e72837249d2723a3.pdf

Just went through a random Sup Forumscore chart to see how many albums there I had listened to. It's a weird list and the fact it's limited to albums is kinda weird but it's fun to see what is acclaimed and I still have to listen to.
I'm interested in pretty much all the jazz picks, and the sub Sup Forumscore and metal and hip hop I have left don't really interest me apart from a release or two.
Luis Evans
Science Fiction really picks up after the title track. Not that the previous track aren't great, Civilization Day and Street Woman are still highlights, but everything after and including Rock the Clock are worth listening and relistening. Though to say what my fave track is, but maybe a tie between the last two.
7/10
Carson Hall
there are definitely some misspelt words there. triple post
Nolan Barnes
do you have the original? I'd like to see what I'm missing too
