idk dude bob dylan oir something
all soudn the same :S

Spoonfeeding is not music discussion.

i dont ""get"" neofolk

is it folk music for edgy goths?

>is it folk music for edgy goths?

yes
it is some of the corniest music in existence

yeah it's pretty much the epitome of mallgoth

some of the tunes are nice though.

This thread is off to a good start.

Thoughts on the new Rome album?
Also, thoughts on Allerseelen? Listened to Venezia and am thoroughly surprised at the funkiness of it all.

Fuck off, this is a neofolk thread for discussion of neofolk music. Recs is usually what people want out of these after listening to one or two DI6 or C93 albums and I'm prepared to give.

It's hard to define but the closest you'll get to the truth is describing it as European post-industrial folk or folk pop which tries to a large extent to ignore the American musical tradition and take inspiration from European pre-1960s culture, European history and landscapes. This also explains the prevalence of fascistic themes.
Also, how is this edgy?

Pretty good. I really like Broken

Wait shit, I didn't realize there was another new album. I thought you were talking about Coriolian

youtube.com/watch?v=VM-OS6bU6Io
good shit

I was just about to tell you. Coriolan was kind of hit/miss for me. Broken and Der Krieg are probably the best songs off it. Hyperion Machine I liked a lot better though.
Some songs are on Youtube already:

Sup guys, I need some more of this classic Neofolk sound, the one with guitars vocals, the "apocalyptic folk" part of the genre.
bonus points if it's in english.
I of course like Dij, C93, Fire + Ice, and Sol Invictus, also a lot of other bands in the genre are great but they are more to the Martial Industrial side of stuff.

Thanks

Best song of Coriolan is s/t and best song of Hyperion Machine is Cities of Asylum.

look at my hat

>apocalyptic folk
This isn't really much more precise than neofolk, they're pretty synonymous. Words are tricky in this scene. I've seen the term apocalyptic folk used to describe both DI6's Roseclouds Of Holocaust and Darkwood's Notwendfeuer which aren't all that similar, Roseclouds being rather synth-heavy and Notwendfeuer being mostly acoustic German tradition Forseti-style neofolk.
Which DI6 albums best encapsulate that sound you're looking for? What are the musical characteristics (like instruments/mix/atmosphere/vocals) Maybe that's the best place to start from.

If you just want more classics, maybe Joy Of Life and Blood Axis are for you.

>Cities of Asylum
Listening to that right now, what a great song.

I bet you get so much Tumblrgoth pussy.

Darkwood, Nature And Organisation, Falkenstein, Forseti, Werkraum (Unsere Feuer brennen! is pretty big on MI influence though).

Yes, this is nice.
Never listened to CM before.
This a good album to start with?

>neofolk-vapowave
>moonspeak and all
What the fuck.

Any concert experiences?
Was one of you at any of the Runes & Men festivals?
I'm going this year for the first time.

I saw Death in June in 2014 and it was great. Douglas was pretty talkative with the audience and made fun of the protesters outside. The audience was also kind of amusing. Everything from metalheads to military cosplayers to black people.

As far as neofolk goes, the "big" names are some of my favorite musicians, but after that I'm not too into it.

>Douglas Lives in Australia but hasn't played here for years
just want to see him before he dies

You sure like Death In June merchandise, huh?
What's your favourite album of his?
And what's your favourite version of Leopard Flowers?

DIJ is gay so he can do whatever he wants

I like the whip hand imagery
But What Ends When the Symbols Shatter but Operation Hummingbird is really good too
Peaceful Snow is really good for falling asleep to
idk

>Anti-Racist Action LA

holy shit, what a bunch of fucking losers hahah

>Douglas Pearce of DiJ attributes his racism to a desire to suck uncircumcised white cocks
kek

this Tenhi album you posted is fantastic, thanks.

...

Saw Spiritual front few months ago, the show was perfect, all of my favorite songs and they are playing so tight, also Simon is super great on stage.

Seen King Dude two months ago, great great show, super depressing and intimate.

I saw Rome live once, in Leipzig with his band.
It was okay, but Rome (especially the more industrial stuff) just sounds like pop rock without proper mix. It's incredible what mix can do to give music that martial feel. Would have loved to see one of his solo concerts.

Is this the closest thing to American neofolk possible?

youtube.com/watch?v=UXKIBYnM_9Q

Very traditional American folky melody, early DI6-esque new wave drums, synth, story of men at war...

Saw him in Toronto some months back and he was pretty cool. The venue was only announced the day before the show to prevent protesters blocking the entrance, I found that funny.

Same thing with Runes & Men this October. It's the last time the festival will take place, it's named after one of his song, it's the most prolific regular neofolk venue there is and multiple sites have hinted at him being the secret headliner, but him playing in Germany is always so difficult..

holy shit idc if this is neofolk or not i want more of this

What really grind my gears is that this music is deeply followed by subanimals (white nationalists)

>>>>/poseurcore/

>tripfag
>calls others poseurs
You're just fishing for these kinds of comments, right?

It clearly isn't.

>it clearly isn't

This is the first time I've even heard of your pathetic little meme genre calm down

Whoa there, I am calm. No need to get touchy.
What part of "It clearly isn't" was it that offended you?

lookin good senpai

Old.

wow this album is really good so far but that cover is horrid.

Pretty damn prefect.

Gold.

Yeah, I agree. What were they thinking?
Much less tasteful than any of the other Rome albums.

holy shit. somehow, this doesnt suck.

Getting kind of silent in here, wanna discuss some music? Why don't we talk about our favourite artists a bit.

My Top 5 Death In June releases:
5. Alarm Agents
4. All Pigs Must Die
3. But What Ends When The Symbols Shatter
2. Symbols & Clouds “Totenpop” Re-Recordings
1. Black Whole Of Love

Death In June will always have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure how I discovered them, it was about 5 or 6 years ago on Youtube when I stumbled upon Roseclouds Of Holocaust somehow, and it was the most beautiful, dark and relatable music I had ever heard. Funnily enough I didn't make any political connection at the time, it just seemd like dreamers' music. They've (/He's) been my favorite band for a long time now and I am always again surprised what a diverse and immense backlog of music he has put out over the years. This was my ticket into neofolk and has provided me with stability and introspection over the years, Doug's ambiguous yet vaguely countercultural and unspecifically politicizing lyrics making me question my worldview rather than propagating any specific set of values or weltanschauung. There is nothing wrong with saying DI6 is nazi music, factually, but I feel that's a little shortsighted, it is music for the politically disenfranchised, those who are left out, those who wish for change, left or right or something else. Some neofolk projects are less multifaceted in that regard though, I guess..

What do you guys think of Sol Invictus?

I love neofolk but yeah, that's pretty much all it is. I'll never tell my friends or an SO that I enjoy neofolk lol.

An excellent reason to a dick-swastika tattoo.

You should have went first OP.

I'm looking for more of the super comfy folkier style of neofolk like in gowan ring or sieben, does anyone have any recs?
