why is music the only artform that got fully overrun by poptimism in magazines and media? you don't see anyone in film criticism shouting adam sandler is on the same level as tarkovsky. you don't see anyone in book criticism saying the twilight bitch is on the same level as david foster wallace. and you don't see anyone on art criticism saying thomas kinkade is on the same level as picasso, so how did putting pop on a pedestal happen to music?

poptimism has been around as long as there was popular music. the beatles and the beach boys were both pop groups, you know. how is taking them seriously any different from taking beyonce and kanye seriously?

Y tho

>twilight bitch is on the same level as david foster wallace
lmaoooooooo

you didn't answer the question fagglet, i didn't even mention specific artists. learn to read 2bh

Probably because music can function as a "background" thing, as artistic wallpaper. It's sad

how can i possibly answer your question without making some assumptions? i did as best i could with what you gave me. like you said, it's impossible to answer your question unless you define your terms. you seem to understand how vague your question is but at the same time don't care to elaborate? ok great thread i guess

film and tv can work in the same way, an example is seinfeld or fresh prince being as comfort food by many people

there's still a hierarchy of prestige in these artforms though

New pop music that's played on a radio is the easiest form of music to access because, unlike movies, you don't have to buy a ticket to listen to this music, you just have to buy a radio, you don't have to spare some time out of your day to consume it since you could just listen to it on the way to work, driving somewhere, in the background etc. As long as it's always somewhat catchy (which it always will be) and as convenient and accessible as it is, it will be popular and praised, although I don't really think many actual credible critics often praise pop

but picasso, tarkovsky, and david foster wallace are pop
