Does anybody want to talk about Girl Groups, Bubblegum Pop, the San Francisco Sound, the California Sound, stuff like that? This thread probably won't get a lot of posts so if you want to post later music in the same spirit (e.g. Power Pop type stuff) go ahead.
Gonna start with one of my all-time favorites. The Mojo Men doing a cover of the Stephen Stills song "Sit Down I Think I Love You" (Arranged by Van Dyke Parks!) youtube.com/watch?v=B8VAtmT--tE
this filler song sucks compared to Be My Baby are you kidding
Christian Campbell
Haven't heard it I'll check it out!
Landon Nguyen
the production on be my baby is fucking insanely brilliant. it was trailblazing and probably is one of the most important songs of the early 60s. it completely changed the face of american popular music. the beach boys might not have even existed without it lol
Nathan Bailey
I'm gonna upload a few things to mediafire and post them in this thread so stay tuned.
i think a big part of that might be that every indie pop band ever has used that beat to open at least one song, so it doesn't feel as special.
I have an enormous softspot for Break-a-way.
Ethan Fisher
Beach Boys before they got a moog >Over and over the crow cries uncover the cornfield >Over and over the thresher and hovers the wheatfield
Beach Boys after they got a moog >Pat, pat, pat pat pat her on her butt, butt.
Leo Gonzalez
I Wanna Pick You Up is the worst Beach Boys song ever.
Charles Roberts
ok there are a bunch of synthesizer things on this record but,
Joe Meek's Girls - Let's Go! >Compilation of Joe Meek produced girl group singles >192kbps unfortunately.
I think you're just being a contrarian. Be My Baby is iconic as fuck. That drum beat is still great even though I've heard it ripped off by 500 different bands.
Nathan Reed
>anything with Mike at the helm WRONG!
James Butler
Do-Wah-Diddy: Words And Music By Ellie Greenwich And Jeff Barry >great, but not very deep digging or anything like that. very casual.
Dream Babes 1-3 >British Girl Groups, Compilation >Very good series, higher quality versions usually of songs that are on other compilations

> In the spring of 2005 Stewart acquired two huge vintage plate reverbs and, eager to use them in a way that befit their history, he asked Krgovich to come up with a couple songs in the vein of classic Phil Spector/Brill Building pop hits and invited a large group of musician friends into the Hive Studios to record the songs live-off-the-floor.
I just like the way it sounds. It creates something full, rich and is frankly more interesting sounding than run of the mill tracks from the same time period.
