Why are their vocals so irritating?

I like their vocals. I'm pretty sure Cornell's voice is objectively god-tier
Chris Cornell is technically the best out of the 4 grunge vocalists
Because they're a nogirlsallowedtreehouse.
All grungebands ban a certain group from their treehouse, they Are moral majorettee in dsguyse, run !!!!! Sjwuickleeee!!!!!!!
Cornell's vocals are incredible.
Because Cornell has actual talent as well as a good vocal range and you're probably used to listening to people who don't know how to sing properly and think anyone who can sing in a high register sounds cheesy.
>vocal range =/= talent
Cornell's vocals take some getting used to, even I still find them irritating at some points. But eventually you just kinda learn to appreciate his incredible vocal range.
Layne was still better.
Layne was better at nothing.
Layne was better at heroin
he sounds like chad from nickleback. that really generic "american idol rock" style
>"american idol rock" style
youtube.com
What
>he sounds like chad from nickleback.
Yeah the guy with the soaring voice who sings in an upper register sounds like the guy who grunts and has almost no vocal range
Dude you're fucking retarded.
here's your (you)
>that demo of Beyond the Wheel
Holy shit I wish they kept that tuning for the album version
At least try
Just listen to his performance on Slaves and Bulldozers.
Confirmed for never listening to more than 3 soundgarden songs
Makes Eddie Vedder sound boring as ever
Layne has wider range
Not even true. What the hell? Chris Cornell has a 4 octave range. Also Layne Staley sings through his nose, so he loses points either way.
>Layne Staley sings through his nose
kek maybe he's trying to get rid of the coke stuck in his nose
BLACK OLD SON
WON'T YOU CUM
AND WASH AWAY MY GENES
Staley > Cobain > Cornell >>>>> Vedder
I just hate how they always get compared to each other, when Chris Cornell is one of the most technically proficient rock singers of all time, and Layne Staley is...Layne Staley...Not that I don't like Layne, its just such a lopsided comparison that it pisses me off that its used so frequently.
made me laf.
Staley > Vedder > Cornell for me though my preference doesn't involve technicalities or whatsoever, it's just how I like their timbre.
Cobain's just a budget Frank Black most of the time.
Hey that would be a good point if it was true. But it's not, so why the fuck did you post it?
>Cobain's just a budget Frank Black most of the time.
When it comes to songwriting sure. But Cobain has nothing in common with Black other than they both scream a lot. You can tell Cobain took a lot of singing influence from the Meat Puppets guy.
>rating some assfuckface who didn't even come from Seattle
Reminder grunge is Seattle only. Reminder Mark Arm is the true fourth grunge vocalist. Reminder Curdt Kobain aka edgy emo faggot was a fucking dickwad who didn't even play grunge music.
Because it's grunge
>Layne Staley
>A2 to G6
>Chris Cornell
>A2 to G#5
Not sure for songwriting, they are on different spectrums but the voice are similar.
Grunge isn't a real genre anyway. It was a joke label for Seattle bands that the media picked up and ran with. Any of the Seattle bands could have been labeled with another already existing genre term. Also Nirvana were more in line with "grunge" than Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam.
Sorry but Frank Black and Kurt Cobain are nothing alike vocally. Kurt's voice is way too raspy and has a completely different tone.
Kurt DID ape Black's songwriting style though and is clearly very influenced by The Pixies. Even then though Nirvana sound almost nothing like The Pixies.
Didn't Kurt say Smells Like Teen Spirit was his attempt to rip off The Pixies?
Grunge is 2 hard rock bands, a metal band, a punk band, and a bunch of ripoffs of the aforementioned hard rock bands
>Layne Staley G6
First of all these are falsetto notes which hardly even count. Also it was from some jokey hair metal song they did in their early days.
Yes.
Layne would never be able to just belt out Jesus Christ pose.
Right. Those vocal range things will take a random live performance where the vocalist shrieks at the top of their lungs at the end of a song and will count that as part of their range.
I wish they would separate their natural singing range from their falsetto range.
Both AIC and Soundgarden are metal though
>>Layne Staley
>>A2 to G6
1. That's a ridiculous falsetto, there's nothing good to be said about singing that high.
2. It's probably wrong.
>thinking Grunge is an actual genre
Grow up
Neither Soundgarden or AIC are metal though.
This is the baitiest bait that ever baited me. OP is a sad pervert.
>Neither Soundgarden or AIC are metal though.
If you're respoding to my comment about the "jokey hair metal song" AIC started off as a typical Glam/Hair Metal band in the 80s. Also they're more Metal than anything else. Unless you want to use the Grunge label.
>AIC started off as a typical Glam/Hair Metal band in the 80s.

Where is your God now?
>actually cites encyclopaedia metallum
lol you almost had me for a second there
>If you're respoding to my comment about the "jokey hair metal song"
not really
>not really
Well then why fuck did you respond to my comment? That was the only thing in it that mentioned them being metal.
>taking site that thinks Dream Theater is more metal than Converge seriously
relax bud. he just wanted some extra (you)
>>actually cites encyclopaedia metallum
>lol you almost had me for a second there
Well they wouldn't list them if they weren't metal. Think about it
Mark Lanegan was the actual best grunge vocalist.
