reminder PRS Guitars stands for Paper Rock Scissors Guitars
actually they stand for Perfectly Reasonable Selection (of models)
I've only been playing for about a month with my Hohner acoustic and also my electric. Both are very cheap, I plan on getting better gear soon
Are there any tips or things I should do to learn aside from scales/chords and some songs I like?
Yeah, you should learn to improvise and jam with other people. Essential skills for guitar players.
Does it work the circled parts are what im unsure about
Does what work? Pls clarify user
sorry I'm not good at divination, let me call an expert on that
Standard pickup cavity, looks like the ring is gone. Probably cracked.
The other two? Fucking trem arm socket and jack socket?
Does it work? Who knows, nobody can tell if there's something wrong with it from that picture.
Let's play guess the riff
Atartibg with drunken Easy mode from last thread
Every blues rock riff in A ever.

Forgive me for not having encyclopedic knowledge of a genre I don't play or listen to but have heard before.
Boston - Smokin'
So a Chapman ML-2 strung with bronze strings played acoustically for bluegrass is the only acceptable guitar?
Yikes. Im glad butthurt isn't contagious.
A compound radius for a fretboard doesn't make any sense. It might be more comfortable to grip in some form, but all it does in the end is to increase the distance from the strings to the frets in certain parts of the fretboard.
It just doesn't make any sense, why would you want that?
Let me guess, you only play metal.
Dis NIGGA gets it
I ain't even mad.
Close. Resonator guitars only, played using a coin for a pick.
Not really, but I'll admit that NWOBHM was what made me pick up the guitar.
Boston is just not a band I've listened to.
(you)
No, seriously. Someone explain this to me it doesn't make any logical sense.
>increase the distance from the strings to the frets in certain parts of the fretboard
That's not what it does. A compound radius neck has a smaller (rounder) radius at the nut, and a larger (flatter) radius at the neck and body joint. As the neck gets wider, the fretboard gets flatter, which is said to be an aid when soloing, especially when bending strings. The spacing between strings gets larger. The action doesn't change.
Educate yourself and never become a luthier.
Yeah. I was just being a dick and went with the "flu" angle. Anyways, get well soon.
Literal faggot.
>Stew-Mac
Fucking dropped
>all it does in the end is to increase the distance from the strings to the frets in certain parts of the fretboard.
it would do that if you'd go from a large radius next to the nut, to a small radius.
I don't really get either why you'd want it, small radii feel cramped, but whatever fits your taste.
>That's not what it does. A compound radius neck has a smaller (rounder) radius at the nut, and a larger (flatter) radius at the neck and body joint
I know, and that's literally what it does. If the radius changes and becomes flatter near the bridge then at some parts of the fretboard the strings are further away than if the radius was the same. The radius of your strings can not be a compound radius, if it follows the radius of either of the 2 then it creates the problem I described.
Not him, but boston sucks.
It allows for lower action without fret buzz. How hard is that to understand?
The nut is "round" and the bridge is flat. The strings follow the contour.
I'm guessing they compensate with a thinner fretboard when the radius becomes flatter.
You're not giving an explanation.
None of these explain it well.
This one actually made sense and I get it now, thank you.
Why do I not have a compound radius then? This seems like it should be standard.
>This seems like it should be standard.
It is standard, if you buy a Jackson.
Think of a paper towel roll. Cut it in half longways. Flatten one end. One side is rounded, the other is flat. Imagine a nut on the rounded end, and bridge on the flattened end, say both a quarter inch high. If you put a string anywhere on the nut to the bridge parallel to the sides, ot will be a quarter inch the whole lenght
Been saving up for this. Are Carvins really worth 2000 dollars?
Every day you lot become even more and more toxic.
No guitars are worth $2000.
What? For pointing out the one brand that does have compound radius as standard?
I play a Gibson by the way, you emo faggot.
but jacksons don't have a compound radius you cock
You think that's "toxic". Think about that. Then look at your life.

In fact, Jackson has one - 1 guitar that doesn't have a compound radius fretboard, the Juggernaut.
Everything else, 12" to 16" compound.
So rondo stopped using the orange lacquer

I'm looking to get my first electric guitar tomorrow, and there are two local guitar shops near my university. What are things I should look out for when buying one or am I better off shopping online or buying at Guitar Center? My budget is probably $500 max for a guitar and a cheap amp.
Additionally should I get a guitar with different pickups like one humbucker and single coil, all single coils, etc.? I'm trying to emulate Jerry Garcia and the overall sound of the Grateful Dead. I know that pre-'72 Jerry used a humbucker and then single coils only until the 90s.
3 people on here recommended getting a guitar with at least a humbucker and a single split coil to expand variety when playing songs.
>custom ordered an expensive bass
>can't kill myself for another few months until it arrives
I think that works as a survival strategy, but maybe I should order something that has longer waiting lists.
Stop posting your meme djent stick.
Bridge humbucker, that's a no-brainer. If you want versatility, either get HSH config or HSH with coil splits.
You can do Jerry fine with humbuckers, actually sounding like him will take more than a specific pickup though.
>tfw i just ordered one of their weird offset liquid things
Sorry, HH with coil splits. I'm not a fan of middle pickups anyway. They tend to sound like garbage.
>djent stick
>Only 6 strings
>What is drop tuning
It's a METAL guitar designed and sold by a drop tuning lardass.
Bro you are such a fucking bro
You're gonna love it. What specific model?
Yeah, I realize his guitars were like fucking spaceships that were customized out the ass and replicating his sound would be near impossible. But thanks for the reply.
Hopefully the shop owners will know what I'm looking for. The music scene is kind of big here so I have high hopes.
>tfw can't find my Agile Les Paul anywhere
Where do guitars even go?
Get yourself a SG, Epiphone if you're on a budget.
Jerry played one for a very long time. His later customs were humbuckers too.
this thing. im thinking about a tort pickguard. ive never had a rondo before, i hope its ok.
This post is incredibly hard to relate to. How does one lose a guitar?
This is like saying "yfw my gf has big boobs and always puts out" and posting a pic of a rotting corpse.
They don't. They get taken.
Hey, silicone doesn't deteriorate and she doesn't say no.
I'm trying to summon blemish user
The locking trem is a big help. The spring might take some breaking in, try taking it out and stretching it if it gives you trouble. As far as the pickguard goes, I think tort would be great. Just glue on a piece to the top and file it down. Any nicks are just "relicing."
ill post a picture or two when it gets here. supposedly it arrives on friday.
I answered you in the other threads and remembered the perfect guitar for you. The Ibanez Artists series (with coil tap, parallel and series wiring) This guitar will get you pretty damn close to most Jerry Garcia sounds you could want. Buy used, because the nice ones are pretty pricey new.
That's the best price I could find for you.
guitarcenter.com
That's only if you're looking to get the most out of your money. If you buying new at a shop you're looking at higher prices but you get the advantage of playing the guitars first.
Yeah I'm just being a prick. Sorry.
Didn't even mean to reply to you, calm down kid.
It's more like saying "yfw my gf has delicious small tits and always puts out" and posting a pic of some pretty nice small tits, but the nipples are just a little weird
Sweet. Us chink lovers gotta stick together. Let me know if you need any help with set up or whatever. I have a bit of luthierie know-how. I'll be sure to check in Friday.
Just replying to this total bro-tier advice. This is a good choice. Down the line it'll be a great mod platform as well. It receives my full endorsement.
>tfw finally got a job and can waste money on gear
Hold me /gg/, so long as you aren't a poorfag
sup /gg/. I picked up this bass amp for a five bucks at a junk auction. It sounds "flappy" (you know, like a blown speaker) so I took it all apart and hooked the head up to a different driver, which sounded fine, so there's nothing wrong with the head. I also sort of tried to get the driver to sound better, you can see on the bottom left corner where I tried putting electrical tape over a small rip in the cone. Didn't help at all. Do you think it would be worth it to get another driver and put it back together in the same cab, or should I just cannibalize the head for components?
Electrical tape won't fix shit. Masking tape might give you temporary relief.
>Had an interview on Saturday
>Have to wait to see if they call me back
Soon user soon!
to actually fix the driver? I had sort of given up on that. If you think it's possible I'll try it though. What about some kind of spray-on epoxy?
Temporary relief != fix.
If it's relatively buzz-free, I would recommend either getting a new speaker or just cutting it down to an amp head, other way leaving the amp intact. Otherwise just cannibalize I guess, though I'd be doubtful of much value coming from it. Have you done much electrical work before? Got a better gut shot?
Either* way
I read reviews on it and it seems pretty good. Hell, even someone else mentioned the Grateful Dead/Bob Weir sound. Thanks.
Is there any risk to buying used from Guitar Center? I really don't want to buy my first electric and have issues with it quickly down the road.
To be succinct, no. While you may have issues with any guitar purchase, as a beginner what we experienced luthiers would call "major problems" are of little concern to you, and other problems are very easily solved. Electric guitars are surprisingly easy to maintain.

nice meme
>want guitar from shop
>it gets sold
>call and ask when they'll have another of that model
>"we're ordering a shipment this week, we'll call you when we get it"
>it's been a week+
How long does a shipment of guitars take to arrive? I love this guitar with all my heart
You didn't actually think they would call you back did you? You have to follow up
Visit them in person.
Enjoy it man, before my job all I had was a Squier VM Strat and a Breedlove acoustic with a Fender Super Champ, every year I bought something new and now it's more like every month
Did you make eye contact with the manager while giving him a firm handshake?
I did visit a couple weeks ago and was 100% down to buy when I had a little more cash. It's a good shop. When I called they took down my number and they have an active inventory on reverb and stuff. I just wanna know how many weeks this should take
