Has anyone here actually seen the music video for Countdown? It's a pretty breathtaking ode to her own femininity. That's actually pretty rare.

At the end of the day she's a charismatic black woman in music who's doing alright but doesn't really avoid issues around being black or being a woman. This does a lot of work culturally because you can look at her and think "oh, she's okay. I can be okay." So a lot of women look up to her. That may seem dumb but when most female performers are cast as either genderless, sexy, or battered Beyonce provides this triumphal counterpoint that seems to represent a whole person.

There are plenty of pop stars (mostly white pop stars tho, lel) whose album credits don't look like that or, at the very least, write their own lyrics. But the point is that the media and nu-males and any sort of hipster type sucks her chode every time she releases an album calling her a creative genius and the most talented woman in the world and the queen and SLAY SLAY and yet she's not responsible for any of that. Her handlers do literally everything. It's not like that for every pop star.

I don't find her physically attractive, there are hundreds of hotter women in pop music, actually even hundreds of hotter black women, but that is irrelevant to her queen status, which only Rihanna could possibly challenge as far as mainstream pop. Taylor? Please. Even Carly is nothing in comparison. Rihanna is much more patrician than those girls could ever be, and Rihanna is still no match for what Beyonce is doing, which is something that can't even really be called pop, it's straight up classic R&B mixed with electronic, hip hop, rock and even jazz vibes.

Like Carly, Beyonce doesn't have big singles on the charts anymore, but in her case it isn't due to mediocrity, it's because Beyonce songs aren't really about dancing anymore (not that it's a bad thing for songs to be about that- but not all great ones are), and her lyrics these days are too real, too sad or too angry, and won't be getting played in Mickey Ds.

Carly's problem is her voice is boring and with a few exceptions, she works with shitty Swedish producers and songwriters who can't make her sound exciting. She's a nice person, truly. I have no idea if Beyonce is nice. But the music that comes out of the Beyonce factory is A+ patrician work that does have a personal stamp on it. The music that comes out of the Carly factory is nothing close- just generic Swedish shit almost as bad as TSwift. Again, Carly is nice. She's CUTE. But her music is her weakness. Even Bieber's music lately is better than Carly's, sad to say. He hired brilliant producers. Rihanna as well. The Rihanna and Bieber albums were master classes in pop production, which is why they have so many different hits.

Beyonce's recent work, aside from the beat on Formation, cannot compare with Rihanna or Bieber on production alone. What sets Bey apart and makes her the patrician of mainstream pop, is consistency and seriousness. Lemonade has more in common with Vulnicura and even A Moon Shaped Pool than it does with any "pop" this year.
