Sad

The same.

couldn't care less

I mean he still made We are the Dead and Big Brother, two of the greatest songs in music, so it's not that sad.

Anyone else love Bowies guitar playing on it?

He'll build a glass asylum with just a hint of mayhem

Happy. We don't need more music based on Orwellian fiction. It's only become more and more irrelevant to modern life as time goes on. The main reason it never came to be was that Bowie didn't really care that much about the project, and it shows in how lackluster Diamond Dogs is.

Music based on pic related, however, would be revolutionary.

Diamond Dogs lackluster

There's two decent songs (Sweet Thing, Diamond Dogs) on it and only one classic (Rebel Rebel). The rest is either forgettable or some of the worst stuff Bowie ever wrote (Big Brother, Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family). The whole thing reeks or trying too hard to make a new Ziggy phenomenon, and I think Bowie quickly realized that it just wasn't going to happen. That's why Young Americans is so successful- Bowie pursued a sound he was interested in instead of trying to repeat past successes. All of his best records are the ones where he tried something completely new to him (Hunky Dory, Ziggy, Low, Scary Monsters, Outside, Blackstar) and all of his worst records were retreads in some way, shape or form (Diamond Dogs, Never Let Me Down, Earthling, Hours).

It's his worst album of the 70s.

Did you forget about Pinups? That was probably the most forgettable/lackluster thing he ever made.

Cover albums don't count.

He wanted to make a musical for 1.Outside too.

Personally, I think that would've made a cooler story.

20th century bowie is shit tbqh famalampai

but since he was ahead of his time, his 90's shit is bretty good

Nah, it's a great album. It's flawed and not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than any of post-Scary Monsters stuff. How the fuck can you hate Big Brother?

>it's a hell of a lot better than any of post-Scary Monsters stuff
I'd argue most of the stuff he did after Scary monsters was better than Diamond Dogs- especially Outside, Heathen, Reality, Next Day, and Blackstar. Hell I even think BTWN is more enjoyable.

This is just boring. The synthetic chorus and the overload of horns is just out of place in a song that's supposed to be this basic. More than anything, it just goes on too long without an even remotely interesting riff anywhere. it's not concise or refined at all, and it's supposed to be the epilogue of the record.

1984 is an even worse song though.

Brave New World is closer to the world we live in, but 1984 is still the better story.

>TFW everyone hates your favorite David Bowie album.

Brave New World is a nice idea, but in practice the world can't tell any interesting stories as it negates all conflict.

Fahrenheit 451 > 1984 > Brave New World

Even if you don't count Pin Ups, it's still way better than Aladdin Sane.

>when some fags say space oddity is shit

more or less the same, but with a slight tinge of happiness knowing that the world is ever so slightly less tainted by shitty music.

1984 should be left alone. It doesn't need more children with superficial knowledge of Orwell or politics in general parroting it to seem smart.

Given the quality of the tracks from it which made it to Diamond Dogs, I feel awful, thanks for asking.

Diamond Dogs > Lodger

that story in the liner for 1. Outside is seriously fucked up, but really, really good as well.

I'd definitely watch that musical

>The main reason it never came to be was that Bowie didn't really care that much about the project
Wrong, he spent a lot of time writing the music and the production and since expressed his regrets over it not happening. The reason it didn't happen is because the Orwell estate completely denied him the rights every time.

No, it's not

actually come to think of it
Diamond Dogs > TMWSTW too

The man would almost never want to get out of bed to write anything about it. Orwell's estate was the nail in the coffin.

>tfw just now instinctively thought that maybe one day he'd go back to it and finish it
>realize bowie is dead now
I can't deal with this.
