/singing general/

Hey Sup Forums, feel free to post advice, ask questions, share lyrics, or upload work to vocaroo ITT.
I'm curious if anyone has any tips about improving the technical aspects of one's voice. To practice I often harmonize with favorite songs, or just do some improvisational vocal acrobatics over an instrumental. I feel like it's going a long way towards helping me identify my range and do unique, unconventional things within it, though I feel like when it comes to technical proficiency I've stagnated a bit. Any advice?
Also if anyone could share some tips as to how to handle breath control and lung capacity, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

I'll post some lyrics OP! I usually like threads like these, I'm sure people will come eventually.
I welcome any criticism you guys may have.

My machines
they make the noise
they do the work
for me
the room throbs
the bodies move
or are still
forever frightened
by the light
piercing dark
affirming something
something vague
a sense of place
in the spinning space
when your hands
just get in the way

I flung the first fit, I swung the first hit
I closed the door because I can close the door
I chewed on my lip, sucked the blood from it
I let it flow because I can let it go

Hey, good stuff man! The first excerpt seems a little choppy but I could see it working really well with a spoken word sort of drawl, maybe in a parquet courts type of way, just sounding super disaffected. I like the second part too, seems a bit more traditional. I guess my only point would be that if you're sucking the blood, you're not really just letting it flow? Just a thought, good shit man.

So, good signing requires a balanced tone regardless of genre, but what characterizes each style? For instance, pop singers sound different form country singers, rock singers tend to use a little vocal fry to get a little raspy etc etc. On another note, what do singers that sound very different and unique, like say Freddie Mercury, or Layne Stayley, Marty Robbins, Elvis, have in common to make them appealing despite not really using the classical style we are taught in choir?

I'm curious about this as well. It's difficult to give your voice a unique tone without it sounding like a total put on.

Could someone do a cover of these lyrics?

I want to know how you know that your problem will be solved.
If you want to get rid of this fisherman's wrong...
sing songs about the gods of chaos.
Listen to the tone of the sea!
A forgery of the sound, I began to sing;
shortness of breath...
I remember
how to
breathe.
I'm in the ocean forever.

Stupid,
stupid,
stupid
dreams.

My lover's with another
Deep beneath the covers
Let your guard down so we can be smothered
With the pillow and its feathers
How many love letters
Must you write
For strife to get better

Pluto's kiss
Dove me toward bliss
Underneath oceans of six lips
Your hips now dip And dive
Beside another thought that made me sigh

One more sip of wine
Watch the eclipse and try
To get closure (girl) before you lie
Get closure (girl) and then die
