Listen to your library, show off your backlog, babble about new music, stop editing the OP dammit, be at peace with /rym/, try not to have another existential crisis, and just let the good times flow.
Hell yeah. These past weeks I think I'm starting to prefer the original record instead of the complete sessions though. Maybe I just don't have the stamina for them anymore. Not in one sitting. >This video is not available. Looks like I got FUCKIN OWNED.
Sebastian Turner
Nothing wrong with that. Find myself just throwing on the second take instead of the entire collection myself.
As for 2016 releases, check out Ultimate Care II by Matmos if you haven't already. Don't have any esoteric type shit to rec because I've been busy lately
Logan Flores
i just did a stupid challenge AMA hell yeah
Josiah Price
This is one of my favorite albums ever
I like how it's rooted in traditional blues rock but is as 'extreme' as noise or metal, without any sense of cheese or irony that seems to accompany fusions of those genres like stoner metal or AmRep stuff
Sadame especially sounds very heroic and mythological sounding, reminds of the Doors
Nathan Morales
i'll bite. what's the challenge?
also, how do I into /daily/? I've made a trip and posted for a few days or w/e but I always seem to not have the time and I'm always too lazy to finish my queues
Mason Garcia
Thank you, I will.
Me, I found out Awesome Tapes from Africa has released this Hailu Mergia recording from 1978 (this year, so it's in peoples' list and shit). And that Brötzmann released a live record w/ William Parker and Hamid Drake. I think his output, especially after the 2000s is more quantity than quality, but this one has a swell lineup so I'll check it out.
Michael Smith
>queues baka. Just post whenever you want and if you feel like it just comment on the other's also it was a challenge were my friends made an 8 ingredient """"""""milkshake"""""" of >Mayo >Malta or however you fucks call t >Tabasco sauce >Milk >chocolate >Powder cheese >Tamarindo juice >Old doritos i did not enjoy it.
Eli Williams
that's fucking repulsive. how much did you drink? sans queues, is it even worth having a trip? seems like a community in which it's semi-necessary for communication between threads, etc.
Charles Phillips
Trips aren't necessary but it does make it easier to hold future conversations with when you're through with a chart.
What have you been enjoying lately btw? I just woke up and wouldn't mind giving something new a listen
Parker Powell
it is if you find tourneys, charts and other stuff fun. don't force it, go at your own pace. i drank a whole glass, big glass actually
James Allen
thanks guys, i'll probably just casual name field instead of using an actual trip
i've really been digging: Coin Coin Chapter One by Matana Roberts Angel Guts: Red Classroom by Xiu Xiu
If you've listened to xiu xiu before, I say go for that album. If not, listen to A Promise, Knife Play, of Fabulous Muscles first.
thx for the advice shamepai. I hope you don't have indegestion and/or vomit
Are you a fan of xiu xiu? What did you think of Unclouded Sky? Personally find myself drawn to that due to the gospel nature of the songs
Aiden Cox
I've got a bunch of 7s this year, but no 8s yet. Had a few false alarms but I got kind of bored of each fairly quickly.
Still looking for some good 2016 jazz tho
Aiden Roberts
yeah i'd say xiu xiu is my favorite artist. still a couple LPs I haven't listened to (Unclouded Sky, Women as Lovers), but I've loved the vast majority of what I've heard.
A Promise is my favorite album of all time Next fav xiu xiu releases are la foret and knife play and, amazingly, angel guts. thought it was incredibly mediocre upon the first couple listens but it just recently clicked for me
Dominic Stewart
user, you MUST listen to Unclouded Sky and give me your opinion at some point. I find it to be unlike anything else Jamie has made.
I liked the track Black Dick when I heard it earlier this year but haven't listened to the entirety of Angel Guts yet. Might do so now actually.
Henry Myers
my standards are lower than some of the other people in the thread but I really liked these
yo i saw your 5/5 and saw Unjust Malaise in it but no Feldman. i was actually thinking about it and have talked to some people and most people (including me) prefer Feldman (both are beautiful composers). Why do you like Unjust Malaise more?
Nathan Taylor
Nothing wrong with your standard desu. I think a lot of people were digging digging that new car seat headrest album and the new Swans
Jason Butler
ty ty Jack DeJohnette, Aki Rissanen, Idris Ackamoor, Vijay Iyer, Brad Mehldau & Fred Hersch all those I'd recommend. On top of that, I have a few to check out still (like the two ones I posted above, the upcoming Mehldau / Redman or the new Nat Birchall). Still haven't gotten around the glowing man, to be kind really didn't impress me and this seems like it could be the same.
Asher Myers
>saw Unjust Malaise in it but no Feldman It's almost as if their music wasn't completely different!
Luke Walker
Seems apples n' oranges if you ask me. Eastman is brilliant minimalism and Feldman is most always minimal in nature (not to be confused with the style "Minimalism"), but closer to serialism or something. He's more comparable to Satie imo, if anyone. Not sure why comparisons are being made anyway.
Also, For Philip Guston is in my 9s. Admittedly I haven't listened to it in a while. The length is pretty prohibitive.
I'll hop on those. Been looking for more jazz lately anyway.
Logan Barnes
go for it. one of their most cohesive albums imo. read an interview in which jamie talked about how it was the first album for which they limited the amount of instruments they used. p interesting stuff
i'll check out unclouded sky. i've listened to the first two tracks, but never had the time to finish. sorta busy tomorrow but maybe saturday night i'll check it out and get back to you
guess i'll go by this name now. same as my trip was but i doubt anyone remembers that
Julian Sullivan
Cool, glad to have you back then Shane If I see you around again I'll give you my thoughts on angel guts too (been super busy so haven't been posting as often)
Jaxon Wilson
I don't think it'll be news to anyone but I'll say it anyway: this is comfy af.
Also prime sample material probably
Hudson Garcia
sounds good i'm headed to sleep now, i'll see you all around
Carson Phillips
oh i'm talking about how they are antiwarhol-core. But yeah i feel like their approaches are very different and i can get why you would like Eastman as much. I've been writting a For Phillip Guston review and its gotten quite lengthy but i always have to delete some stuff and then change it. I always think that writting about Modern Classical or compositions in general will make me look dumb. But something i think is very true is how Feldman puts so much care into every single note. However im not sure if this is thanks to the CEU or thanks to the composition itself. Its like every single sound through the whole thing has a time to breath, sound and rest.
Colton Davis
>oh i'm talking about how they are antiwarhol-core. Please tell me you're drunk or something, man
>Its like every single sound through the whole thing has a time to breath, sound and rest. Listen to P. Bradfield's Solo Violin Improvisations for a similar appreciation of timbre, envelope, and negative space in an improvisational setting.
Robert Carter
I should probably focus a bit on it and do all those 2016 releases I have backlogged. It's turning out to be a pretty good year, but I haven't heard enough of it either. >oh i'm talking about how they are antiwarhol-core Wew lad.
Colton Nguyen
I keep hearing this is a comfy/10 album But dang ol spotify don't got it
Chase Fisher
anyone know where I can find a full version of Werckmeister Harmonies online with english subs
Angel Long
no bullies. It was the question and the relationship they hold. Also thanks for the terms, i really need a compositional thesaurus to get into this stuff properly
Elijah Scott
Fug I accidentally sent it before finishing it. Anyway, that pic's probably my favorite discovery from last month, a very good live recording though also quite long (2 hours and a half), which might be off putting I guess. You can try art of the trio 2: live at the Village Vanguard instead. Or not, listen to whatever you want idk.
Jacob White
Public trackers. Private trackers. qBittorrent has a built in search engine that works alright. Maybe you can download some release without English subtitles if you can find subtitles for that release online. And I once saw a guy on soulseek sharing the movie, but good luck with that.
Jayden Hughes
Last year was better for me. I got all of these + Music for Church Cleaners Vol. I & II
Just use youtube, it's got some quiet elements but it's not pedantically subtle music or anything
Well now you know not to pursue writing about that relationship and risking wider spread ridicule. It served its purpose. I mean, whether or not some rando on rym likes them both (does he? I know he liked Eastman) has no impact on the music.
2 hours is fine. I'll check your rym if I'm still looking for more after I go through the shortlist you gave before
Samuel Ramirez
Well, 2016 is doing a lot better for me than 2015. Especially since I discovered three of those 2015 records in 2016. Then again I didn't really look as hard but oh well. I'll look into those in your list.
I didn't particularly like For Those Who Are, Still last year. Felt a bit too much like the edgy version of Kamasi's The Epic, which was already edgy in a bad way.
Michael Cox
Che Che Che Pee some other italian stuff - more italian stuff algorithm is reccing me stuff that looks HARD AS FUCK, yet is in actuality poppier than it lets on, this is one of those, Killing Joke was one of those, this is quite alright
Dan Johnston - Songs of Pain man he can play the piano the lyrics were good too
Mingus - Mingus (x5) it's pretty good man, very listenable, the big band influence shows, dunno what else to say
Grayson Lee
some good ones but none that come close to the best of last year
>I like how it's another LRD tier snoozefest that takes itself way too seriously sure i'll check it out
Nicholas Parker
>LRD tier snoozefest that takes itself way too seriously boy are you in for a surprise also >LRD tier snoozefest thems fightin words
Connor Perez
FEDELI ALLA LINEA LA LINEA NON C'È FEDELI ALLA LINEA LA LINEA NON C'È ALTRO CHE BUON UOMO ALTRO CHE BUON UOMOOOO
Samuel Thompson
>man he can play the piano no he can't, that's what makes the album so great
Ian Fisher
It was The Baddest Beams - Junior Beams (Dam's Jans) vs Robert Rental & The Normal - Live at West Runton Pavilion, 6-3-79. (Terminus). Not a fair one, because I like industrial and is neutral leaning towards negative to indie psychedelic pop. I gotta admit though it was a well made piece for this genre, quite fun and not primitive, yet still those Tame Impala vocals were a little off-putting. Robert Rental - p good, don't have much to say (as usual).
There is no specific theme for the finals, rec whatever.
Bets: 1) Terminus (Terminus, herb kid) 2) Tuco (Tuco)
Henry Robinson
>negative to indie psychedelic pop not a good look, senpai
Ryder Gray
>arguing over preferences Can you not
Landon Fisher
Animal Collective - Feels [2005] >neo-psychedelia
I really can't do anything but love this when it has songs of the calibre of Banshee Beat. That track is pure medicine. Well, the whole streak from Banshee Beat to Loch Raven is bliss, and most songs are on the same wavelenght of quality; sadly I was never very sure of Bees, but everything else here is classic.
Nathaniel Howard
Joanna Newsom - Joanna Newsom & the Ys Street Band E.P. It's one of the few records recommended here (I believe, it was GFR's rec) I liked enough to upload it on some device to take with me. I listened to it while was on the road and it was such soft and comforting music, I wished I could have made the separate song out of "ooh oh woh oooh" part at the end of the "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie" just to put me to sleep. My first impressions were concentrated on vocals and music, but then I looked up the lyrics and oh boy are they just stunning, I almost got teh chills from this "you ain't forgotten everything". This is definitely going to be one of my all time favorites and it seemed more fair to me to change it's grade from 8 to 9.

Yep also has some genuinely magical moments, especially in the first track. It lags a lot in the middle but when it gets good its great. Shilled that album heavy in sharethreads in 2013 and early 14 before it got memestatus after I got it recce'd from an IRL friend. Best IRL recc I prolly ever got tbph.
happy birthday chum

Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam [2007] >neo-psychedelia
The production here is genius, the songs amazing, I couldn't ask for more. There's also one of the most severely underrated anco tracks ever: Derek.
Brayden Brown
mix would be cool

Animal Collective - Honeycomb / Gotham [2012] >psychedelic pop
They made a mistake not putting these two songs on Centipede Hz, because they're nothing less of great. Honeycomb is my go-to inspirational song, angry energetic and fast, it's also very comforting. Gotham is about leaving a big city (in this case it's Avey leaving New York) and I love it from all standpoints, lyrics, structure, performance, all the good stuff. The "alien broadcast" production/aesthetic that permeates CHz is also here, and I find it lovely.
Jack Hall
who knew you had such bad taste B^)
Colton Bailey
hcti is really great, feels is not i like 125 rue montmartre too, but idk if i'd call it great
Camden Turner
>I like how it's another LRD tier snoozefest that takes itself way too seriously
It's catchy and riffy as hell you goddamed nigger, you'd have to be a tryhard avant-teen NOT to like it.
Bentley Roberts
hap birth
Forgot about Fire Orchestra
See personally I never had a taste for Sung Tongs, but HCTI, Feels, and SJ I enjoyed. HCTI I enjoyed the most though.
Carter Green
imo sung tongs and hcti are their best from that 2001-2006 era
never got into feels for whatever reason. it's a good album but it just feels like more of a stepping stone toward SJ to me
William Hall
>also, why have there been so many birthdays lately cozy winters
Jace Collins
Yeah SJ sounds a lot like Feels with more layering and sampling
Dylan Torres
Happy birthday you meme!

Animal Collective - Centipede Hz [2012] >psychedelic pop
I was always weirded out by how many people disliked this. This record is in my opinion the second best from the band (with the first being stgstv). Every song is just so dense and tasty, melodies and harmonies are some of the best the band ever did, and the interludes at the beginning and end of some tracks are just great. I remember watching an interview with Panda where he said the record is supposed to sound like somebody hearing twelve different alien bands playing through a messy radio, and they nailed the concept, it makes up for a very fun listen!
