I've listened to a few of the essential post-punk albums (Remain In Light, Unknown Pleasures, Closer) and they've all been ok but none of them really grabbed me until now. Where do I go from here to work my way into the genre? Something new? Return to the others? Both?
Camden Rogers
Check out this one - pretty big influence on Interpol

The remaster cover is so horrible it's ridiculous?
Brayden Walker
Shit I literally just listened to Up The Down Escalator, shit's great. I'll listen to it next, I have a good feeling about it (even though like someone else said the cover is pretty unbelievable).
What about the atmosphere of TOTBL? The catchiness is great and all but I like how it hits a sort of melancholic middle ground between happier stuff and Joy Division's mever ending gloom.

Atmosphere is a bit harder to match, maybe try The Sound (Jeopardy, From the Lions Mouth) or early Cure (Seventeen Seconds, Faith)?
Brandon Bennett
Damn. Even just the semi-JD emotion stuff? Figured that would be popular. I'll check both out, though. Is Pornography worth a listen? I like Disintegration a lot but that's it.
Joseph Fisher
Yeah that's kind of what makes TOTBL a unique album! And why so many people still listen to JD today.
Definitely give Pornography a listen (in fact every Cure album up to Disintegration is worth one, except maybe The Top), but it's much darker - more of a Gothic sound.
Also while you're at it have a listen to Gang of Four - Entertainment! (more dancy post-punk), Television - Marquee Moon (raw but catchy) and Wire (melodic and arty). And Wipers - Youth of America has some fantastic guitar work too.

nothing compares

Faith by The Cure. Its not as good as Disintegration but still very good and to me it sounds similar to TOBL

>tfw you always miss the post-punk threads Anyway I rec The Comsat Angels This album is amazing imo

The Top is the best Cure album, kill yourself, idiot.
Also, OP is a fag for liking Interpoop. Kill yourself too.

>except maybe The Top What the fuck, m8?
Eli Williams
To be fair it has a few great tracks but doesn't really hold up as an album. Head on the Door does the whole new wave thing much better IMO.
Evan Carter
I think he just read that critics didn't like it so he decided it was bad.
