Fuck, it's so hard to narrow them down to 5 songs. I only included early-mid 90's songs because that's peak GBV and where everyone should start with them. Also, when describing GBV it's necessary to include Tobin so I threw in Gleemer (the most essential Tobin song imo).

New Paths to Helicon Part 2
Heard About You Last Night
That's a beautiful song, but I feel like if people heard that as one of their first M83 songs, the lo-fi recordings of Dead Cities would turn them off, as first listeners. Or give them an unrealistic perception of what the rest of M83's stuff is like. I probably wouldn't have liked Dead Cities quite as much if I listened to it first. I worked my way backward, but now, I absolutely love it.
For first listeners, and people new to Post Rock, I'd include more stuff on Young Team. Like, Yes! I'm a Long Way from Home!
My Tears Are Becoming a Sea is pretty baller
I was thinking of Tracy instead of "heard about you last night" so we're kind of on the same wavelength
