Entry level post punk is a good way to go Like others mentioned Marquee Moon is a good option but also RiL and maybes Crazy Rhythms. Don't recc her anything that's more or probably even as difficult as TVU&N until she finds at least a few albums that she really likes from what you show her first.
Jordan Cruz
Beat Happening - Music To Climb The Apple Tree By Eh same issue I had with You Turn Me On. I guess the tunes are catchy, the whole mood is not boring and all, but it's just not that impressive really.
Little Kid - Logic Songs I had mixed feelings about this piece, but I guess it's enjoyable enough. Mixing folk with field recording is a good idea and maybe it's not the best way to embody it, but good enough.
Noah Rodriguez
you're not welcome with that attitude

pick an album for one of the genre restrictions, etc. You can see what your future genre restrictions will be if you advance, so choose wisely.
Dalhous - Will To Be Well Judging by the sound palettes these guys use (especially in the second part of the piece), they kind of know their drill. They still limit their potential due to the necessity of supporting the album's warm theme and charming attitude. The wish to emphasize IDM's role in this is pretty obvious too. I like me albums with some good structure, but these guys should loosen up a little and stop trying to fit their experiments in line with whatever image they initially painted in their head and do more stuff like "Transference" instead.
Ur stupid and I hate you, Simon Finn is the bestest player ever and his songs are really really REALLY good You don't like him cause ur a dummy and stupid
didnt kms so tolerable kinda been wanting to listen to tpab again for a weeks but nay

>Bill Orcutt - Way Down South (rec by s) Solo guitar live performance. The man plays his out of tune guitar at a relentless pace and with much violence resulting in a thunderous sound. It reminded me a lot of the work of Sir Richard Bishop and of Sun City Girls in general. It only last for 15 minutes but it's exhausting. 8/10
>Vladimír Václavek - Ingwe (rec by rym) Great comfy folk rock from Czech Republic, mixing a lot of vocal and music styles : folk/ psychedelic rock... Only track 4 was a bit annoying. 8/10
if you want to listen to their EP instead, go for it. It's just as good
Luis Miller
>It reminded me a lot of the work of Sir Richard Bishop and of Sun City Girls in general backlogged the shit out of that

Anything left for your favorite lovecraftian horror?

Velvet Underground - Loaded It's a pretty common thing to hear these dudes being described as proto-everything, especially with regards to their debut and follow-up, but it's telling that they album on which they finally tie their shoes and comb their hair still casually murders some of the other shlock from the same era there are some REAL bangers here, it's the album I would recommend to people looking to get into the band, (even though, if you haven't at least "heard'' of this band before the age of 17 you need to put your head in the oven and turn it on high)... Fave track would be Oh! Sweet Nothing
Art Ensemble Of Chicago - Les Stances à Sophie A pretty great blend of accessible fusion jazz y'know the sort of lusty negro beats that yir average joe can appreciate and vibe along to and also the slightly higher brow twisted fucking psychopath improvisation and avant-memery that your scotch drinker can shake his brain to Naw but, I really liked it, has v bueno drums
Oliver Perez
It's American Primitive and free improv noise rock. It shouldn't work as well as it does.

>tfw wanted to rec some post-punk but got scared by electro-acoustic being the rec next round.

>mfw I wanted to rec electro-acoustic and techno but I was scared of finding a good post-punk rec that Term hadn't already heard

>Dicks - Kill From The Heart Pretty great bluesy punk about killing bourgeois fascist pigs and the like. 3.5+/5
>Bauhaus - In The Flat Field I've avoided Bauhaus for years because I associated them with boring, atmospheric post punk crap but this is actually pretty good. The guitar is scratchy and angular and overall the album's pretty funky too. Surprised me, shows what I know. 3.5/5
>Sonny Sharrock - Black Woman I hadn't read up on this at all and I'd never heard of Sharrock before so I had no idea he was a guitar player. From the first notes it kinda blew me away, the tone is just incredible in this album. The vocals never got annoying either, apart from a tiny bit in Portrait of Linda (which I'd actually heard part of before but never realised, Young Fathers sampled it). 4+/5 probably a 4.5 after a couple of listens.
Loaded is great, the intro of Sweet Jane is prob one of my favourite moments in music.

John Coltrane - Coltrane Legacy (January 15, 1959 - May 25, 1961)
What this album lacks in cohesiveness it makes up for in variance and musicianship. Although it’s technically an outtakes album, it showcases some phenomenal pieces that would pose no problem slipping onto an official studio album. The rotating cast of musicians, from various sessions, causes the album to never cease to be interesting and captivating.
Coltrane’s playing is the common denominator that grounds the pieces, and his hard bop / modal roots get pushed a little beyond the traditional here. His band is usually on point and complimentary, and no real flaws are present here. An enjoyable album all the way through.
7.0 /10

Fuck me, all the best Moebius comics cost a ton on Amazon. Airtight Garage alone costs $150 used, forget the $230 new. All the other issues cost at least $50 each, but usually around $100.
Why don't they reprint this shit?
Hyped for finally entering core trane territory?
true
Carson Flores
ok I'm gonna pick Sheikh Aljama by Esplendor Geometrico
Luke Price
Gonna hit up my flea market record vendor, I'll let you know if I cop anything good.

Sebastian Hughes
I mean just look at this shit
I was about to walk down to the local record store myself but I'll probably get trapped in the bookstore upstairs Love Supreme and Ascension are still so far tho
Dominic Martinez
I'm always so brokenhearted at the cost of moebius books. You can get the incal in hardcover for like 40, it's great. Be sure to get the original colors. I regret not buying a used copy of Angel claw I saw for 25. Luckily gardens of aedena is getting a reprint iirc. There's just not a big demand from English readers. Bragging time: it cost me 100 usd, but I have 40 days dans le desert b

keen to hear what you think of Interstellar Space when you get there - easily my fave Coltrane album

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (January 20, 1963)
4/5
Certainly inspired and ambitious, The Black Saint is still one of the most disappointing albums I've ever listened to. With it's legendary reputation preceding it, the sheer brilliance that resides primarily on the latter half of the album is brought down by the badly-executed first half.
I will say that as a first time listener to Mingus that his bass playing grounds a lot of the pieces and movements and is one of the best parts of the whole album.

>Frank Zappa - Hot Rats Willie the Pimp is great but there is some shite in here, The Gumbo Variations is about 10 minutes too long. 3/5
>John McLaughlin - My Goal's Beyond This was a bit better than The Inner Mounting Flame because I liked the use of the tamboura but still not very good. 2.5/5
>Nina Simone - Sings The Blues Nice blues, goes without saying that her voice is great and the band is pretty good too. 4/5
William Torres
if that romanticism is still open try pic related

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol 2. I think I'm starting to warm to The Disintegration Loops, they are thoroughly relaxing... too bad they're so fucking expensive on Amazon, no, I cannot afford to drop 100 of my dollarydoos on a glorified meditation aid... I digress, Aphex Twin ACTUALLY does ambient material, and it turns out pretty nice, MIGHT actually listen to this one again, it's overwhelmingly pleasant, my brain was dancing the whole time mang
Smog - Knock Knock cute kot, looks distressed. stop that... Why can't every track be the first one with its hum hum ha rhythms and nice string band for the early morning panorama vibes or the 5th one with it's sad street band that somehow has a full piano lugged around with them vibe why can't every indie folky band just be Jim O'Rourke-cum-Songs: Ohia god damn it... In Brief I liked the sad bits, but felt strong ambivalence to light disdain for the alt rocky bits
Logan Cruz
ok so I see romanticism was taken reserving non-jazz free improv until I can get to my computer
