Tfw post rock is your favorite genre

Any other in betweeners out there? Sometimes I feel like it's just the right mix but I wish I had one IRL friend who enjoyed it with me. One of these days I'll drag my gf to a concert.

why does it sadden you what others think about the music you like

It's not really what they think about it, it's the fact that there's no one to really talk about it much with. There's r/postrock but they're way more into crescendocore and it's reddit.

I like post-rock in small doses. Heck, I make post-rock music. Too many bands sound the same, even though I wouldn't consider a lot of them bad. I saw this band named Staghorn out a bit ago. They were great live, and their EP is decent. Check them out.

I feel the same except my favourite genre is prog rock

Mamma mia! Post rock sure is a shitty genre!

this

i'll talk to you about post-rock user

Depends on how you present yourself m8

What is your favourite post-rock album?

What? Prog rock is universally loved, Close to the Edge is a favorite with people IRL and with Sup Forums

Sigur Ros is better than Godspeed

You must be one bland ass mother fucker op

you should be proud to be independant

Some albums I could see that, such as ( ) or Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, but anything else I don't see it.

take it to the thread user

Thanks user

It's Sup Forumscore for a reason, it's a great album. But then stuff like Mogwai and Tortoise and Do Make Say Think gets consistently ignored and shit on. Everyone just wants to talk about Slint and Talk Talk, which are great but overdone here.

The problem is that everything most post rock bands try to achieve musically can be found far more fully realized and emotionally captivating in other genres. The rock band setup can only do so much to get an epic or atmospheric sound (although there are good examples of course)

The best post-rock albums of the 90s, for those that weren't aware, are:

1. Soundtracks for the Blind
2. Upgrade and Afterlife
3. F#a#infinity
4. Storm and Stress s/t
5. Ocean Songs
6. Lungo i Bordi by Massimo Volume
7. Don Caballero 2 by Don Caballero
8. Laughing Stock by Talk Talk
9. And This Was a Good Day by Mob
10. Millions Now Living Will Never Die by Tortoise

Hmm this is a pretty good argument, but I would say the constraint is what makes the music really awesome and beautiful. Like how in a creative writing class you're given limits and boundaries in order to tap into your creative mind and work around them.

That's not to say that the music without said boundaries is any worse.

Do Make Say Think isn't consistently ignored or shit on, it's consistently in the share threads.

Same as Broken Social Scene.

What are some good post rock bands to start with? A friend of mine showed me a band called Hammock and I kinda dig the sound.

It has the potential to be incredibly bland in the wrong hands (and I'm thinking of iLIKETRAINS) but when it's good it's glorious

Beware of Safety
God is an astronaut
Do Make Say Think
Broken Social Scene
This is Your Captain Speaking
Lights At Sea
Audiocæneat!
We Lost The Sea

Maybe it's just the people in the threads I was in then. I saw Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord is Dead get shit on for being early crescendocore with meme horns.
Hammock is great but it's more half post-rock half ambient. Hard to say which one you'd like more

post-rock isn't really that obscure. Heck, you can even listen to it in movies. Math rock is definitely less known.

Oh Hiroshima

More Experimental:

Jaga Jazzist
Long Fin Killie

>You feel sad for being judge
>You judge others for their taste and use shitty adjectives like "reddit"

Not judging, I'm just not as into some of the 3rd wavers. Explosions in the Sky isn't really my thing and a lot of bands that followed them tried to mimic that sound. For those that like it, that's great, I think think there's much better to be had within the genre.

>The rock band setup can only do so much to get an epic or atmospheric sound
i'll probably get downvoted for this*, but that's one of the reasons i like explosions in the sky..

This is a good list
