sean and rob are normal, user. they're two b-boys from up north
mate it's a great album but you've got to cut it out with the hyperbolic memeing of it
It can't. With elseq music has finally truly gone in a direction where digital is superior to analog in every. Way. Possible. Not to mention it's also the truest continuation of Stockhausen's work on Kontakte that exists today.
But it's not hyperbolic memeing though. Nor is it technically an album. It's closer to being some modern day TVU&N or something with how under appreciated it's boundary pushing has gone. People think that Google's prototype make a song program's cool, but what Autechre have done makes that look embarrassing by comparison.
seriously stop
TVU&N wasn't really that "boundary pushing". that isn't even why its good
jesus fucking christ
im listenin to this beat its dope m8
where can i get some of ur shrooms pal
>ITT: People who have no clue about music
it's really not all that under appreciated, it's just the manner in how they put it out lends itself for a more low key release. not everyone will pay $40 for digital or put in the time to listen to 4 hours of music (even if they were to break it up). if anything, the recent spamming calling it the "conclusion of music" seems to have soured many people's perception of the album - it was far more appreciated on the board before some autist started that up. i'm almost convinced an autechre hater doing it at this point.
also if you can't see how your post sound like hyperbolic memery then...lol
oh you're a memer, my mistake
freefold casual is the dark horse of elseq. quality
*foldfree
>muh I am such a superior fan pretentious garbage
If anything, I think elseq because of its truly unique way it was released has really split the men from the boys in the music world.
>calls people memers when being ignorant
How new.
This is the only recent ae album I didn't like after the first listen
I still don't like 70% of it, it all feels empty, there's no substance to it I enjoy in the other ones.
It really does feel just like a series of patches generating patches, but not as cleverly disguised as previous releases.
why does it need to be disguised?
I agree that some tracks lack substance but there are plenty that do
its all just bangerz m8
>>pendulu hv moda
closest thing to a banger, they produced
what do you mean by substance?
i dunno, there's quite a bit of depth there. just reducing it down to patches being patches shows a bit of misunderstanding in how max/msp works and sort of undermines sean/robs role. it's far less generative than people make it out to be. in fact this one felt very hands on and has a level of interaction and fluidness that was missing from some of their other max material, most likely because this set-up is more similar to their live "rig"
it's just hip-hop innit
its not difficult to see that some tracks on elseq are very long and do not vary enough to warrant the length
mesh CinereaL is like a monster that wraps around you, gets beaten with a stick and starts bleeding depressing noisy minor chords until it dies
The point of drone or repetitive music in general is that you start accepting the never-ending nature of it and just lose yourself in what you hear.
And this isn't even that repetitive, there are tons of little variations in every track that are worth paying attention to
Rob or Sean said on WATMM that Music = Speech - Text. Some of the speech on pendulu is mind-blowing, putting the text back in the music in a sublime way.
yeah but thats the thing. they lack that "something" that makes droney music engaging to listen to. I guess thats what he means by "substance"
Yeah, I absolutely love that they said that. It makes so much sense but it's hard to explain.
do you reckon that's legit scratching on 7th slip?
well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But just because you think it lacks "something" doesn't make it true. They don't lack substance at all to me and many, many other fans.
Gotta agree with the other guy here. The longer tracks are constantly changing far more than they appear to. Elseq' entire point is that the patches aren't just being generated, but morphed throughout each track. Changing of timbre at that level is why I compared it to Stockhausen's Kontakt in the first place because it has more similarities at this point with the way Stockhausen approached total serialism on that through timbre manipulation than what the average electronic album does today.
yeah, I'll admit that the complaints about the repetitiveness are odd to me, but that could just be because i listen to loads of drone/ambient/loopy dance tracks etc.
in a way there is a form of evolution there because the longer the piece or track goes on, the more your perception and consciousness is affected and you're sort of forced to hear the piece/track in a different way. obviously people like reich have always sorta played with this idea.
that's where taste and the listener's subjectivity come into play. but that sort of arbitrary, ineffable 'something' only exists in the abstract and can't be measured or quantified in any sort of manner. i feel the same way about 'soul' being a descriptor.
I feel like you and Boldfaure would get along lol
Nah. He doesn't like Swans so I wrecked him in an argument cuz he's a bitch boy who actually has no clue what he's talking about.
recent swans is pretty weak tho tbf
