I would agree with you on this but you said your favorite track on A Promise was Apistat Commander. That's what makes your opinion sound so weird to me personally. Their's a lot of simple verse/chorus/repeat songs like Apistat Commander on Fabulous Muscles (Crank Heart, I Love The Valley, Clowne Towne off the top of my head) so it seems like it would be right up your alley. It doesn't matter though, we all have weird opinions about things.

it has nothing to do with song structures, actually. I just don't think any of those songs you listed are any good. Xiu Xiu lost its raw edge after A Promise and I don't really care for any of his releases after it (La Foret and The Air Force are alright but don't deliver on what I want from Xiu Xiu). Apistat Commander is so much more explosive, cathartic and sonically boundary-pushing than anything on Fabulous Muscles. I Luv The Valley is so tame, and the traditional rock instrumentation doesn't lend it anything interesting.
