How can people actually enjoy rap?

How can people actually enjoy rap?

xd random u rigt

I don't often, but this is a fantastic album

ikr, how can people actually enjoy what i don't?

It can be as enjoyable as any other form of pop music, but it does seem to be inherently limited by the constraints of the genre. Musicality is not a primary concern of any hip hop act, so it is always doomed to be a tier below other forms of music. Beats too repetitive (and often plagiarised) song structures too basic. Anyone who has a hip hop album in their top 100 doesn't really care about music. Which is fine, as long as they can accept that fact with grace

Was with you up until that top 100 claim, you went full retard there

i don't know i tried to like it listen to mf doom and kendrick lamar, few others, all fucking terrible its really amazing how many people have convinced themselves that the music is listenable

shut the fuck up

if u dont like any hip hop ur a pussy

postin in an ebic thread

They don't. They just pretend to because it's a black art form and don't want to appear to be racist.

low iqs

>plagiarised
He we go with the sampling is STEALING meme.

>Kendrick Lamar
>MF doom
Well there's your problem.
Doom isn't half bad but he is totally overrated. People who think doom is god are usually hip hop scrubs.

It is only when rappers do it. Make of that whatever you will

You don't have to tell me this. People have been sampling songs long before rap or hip hop.

As with everything there are reasonable limits. Sampling a nice bit of sound here and there to to enhance your sonic palette is fine, but literally stealing an entire melodic line for every song you make is not on. Just bang out of order desu, crazy that they've been getting away with it for so long.

asking why people enjoy rap and posting a pic of TPAB is the equivalent of asking why people enjoy steak when you've only ever had it cooked into leather

the beats and structures are basic because their not creating rhythm like rhythm is created in rock music. All rhythm is created by the flow of the voice - just like in rock music it would be the drums or two guitars doing it.

You're defining musicality by constraints of rock music.

>le TPAB is overrated!
>I know TRUE rap
nigga you're white, shut the fuck up, you're one of the worst trips in this shithole

I don't question it hahahahhahahahah

you fuckn idiot it's poetry set to a beat
if u can feel emotion u can actually enjoy rap
why don't u ask music related questions rather than trolling
2/1o

>but literally stealing an entire melodic line for every song you make is not on. Just bang out of order desu,
Yup we just loop shit up and call it a day....
And shit maybe touch a pad out of order from time to time.......
Go do some research because obviously sampling is something you don't know much about.
Nobody is getting away with anything btw there is a reason why people can't go after MC's for using samples.

i give it another week at most

white guilt

That reason is commonly known as "positive discrimination"

Well that and a fear of the horrendous gang violence innocents would be subjected to for trying to protect their intellectual property

do they even pay royalties?

Kek back to Sup Forums.
Also enjoy.
>"[In] truth, in literature, in science and in art, there are, and can be, few, if any, things, which in an abstract sense, are strictly new and original throughout. Every book in literature, science and art, borrows, and must necessarily borrow, and use much which was well known and used before." Emerson v. Davies

I like early Public Enemy and NWA. It's cool how they combine a bunch of samples to make songs, and it's actually catchy too. Haven't heard anything I like from modern rap.
Granted I haven't explored the genre much, but I've heard too many "black guy taking gangster shit over simple mid-tempo beat and synthesized bass for 4 minutes" tracks to be interested.

Sometime yes, most of the time no.
Sampling is protected under fair use and is considered to be parody.

The flow.Like appreciating rhythms.Dont you?
Most rap is cool.It makes me feel cool.
Beats.Good beats make me groove.
Lyrics.I think too much,I have to stop if I want to actively listen to rap.

Listen to jazzmatazz volume 1 by GURU
It's live jazz hip hop with a pretty impressive list of jazz musicians playing the beats. He does a song with Donald Best on of my favorite jazz artist.

When I wear my fedora, I act like I'm too good for things like rap but when I take it off I feel like less of an uptight faggot.

>have Endtroducing in top 100
>don't care about music
>pic

say that to my face fucker

Listening to it now, this is pretty good actually.
Hope I'm not a fag for saying this, but reminds me of Nujabes.

>Sampling is protected under fair use and is considered to be parody.

See what I do is, I put on a hip hop album I enjoy them listen to it. I don't think about white guilt, nigger dicks (admit it, you do and you're jealous because of your tiny unpleasuring pecker), trump, Sup Forums, national socialism or anything of the sort. It's just music man, get off your high horse.

...

What a ridiculously weak excuse for stealing. It's like getting caught shoplifting and saying "yeah, but can any of us really OWN property, maaaan?"

Emerson v. Davies

Endtroducing hardly counts, OP specifically said rap and Endtroducing doesn't have black people talking all over it and is more about being actually creative and diverse with sampling.

...

I also have It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back in my like top 150 if that says anything

Guru is the shit desu.

Well it's one of the very few rap albums that was actually innovative and important so yea you pass. Seems like your valuation of rap music is sensible and grounded unlike some people itt

Listen to this album buddy

they just do. shitbrid

>REEEEEEEE MUH LUSTY NEGRO ATTITUDES!

Guys, high school won't last that long. I know the black kid who picks on you because they're athletic and you're a fat loser is annoying, but high school is a very small portion of your life. It ultimately won't matter. Maybe if you lose some weight and leave the house more, that cute quiet girl that you have a crush on will bang you instead of him.

>ranking albums you like into the hundreds
jfc do people actually do this it must suck to have autism fucking hell

>implying jocks back in the 80s liked coon hop

MF DOOM is one of the most skilled writers of all time, most rappers cant rhyme as many words in two lines as he can

I haven't actually ranked into hundreds, just that if I made a top 150, that album would be in it

TPAB is bullshit WE WUZ KANGZ music made to appeal to the dumb negro and white cucks

it's a corny album with no replay value

this is what happens when you think every year's aoty should get a 10

you should have at least one album by a black artist in any list, amirite.

No, i just enjoy the album enough to include it in a top 150. Who gives a shit if a list has all black or all white or all weeaboo shit

It doesn't really matter, because I'm 23 and I already was able to write a 4x-combo of line-on-line-rhyming (whole line rhymes exactly with previous line) two years ago and it didn't make me a finessed and very skilled rapper. Okay, compared to many others of course but not on my scale.

im a national socialist so i do not listen to hip hop music but i do watch anime as japan was a member of the tripartite pact which makes them honorary aryans

i have seen the straight outta compton movie and i thought ice cube's son was good in it (he looks like his dad)

That's a terrible analogy. The difference is the owner is actually losing tangible property as a result of shoplifting.
Ideas are abstract, and new ideas are virtually always built upon preexisting ideas.

it's actually kind of like enjoying classical, only instead of intertwining melodies, it's intertwining rhythms

honestly, if you get Steve Reich, you should get rap

>honorary aryans

feel like you're missing a key point of the concept of racial purity lol

>i do watch anime as japan was a member of the tripartite pact which makes them honorary aryans
Did I just get meme'd on?

yeah but they demonstrated honor and were very volkisch. hitler liked them and they even developed plans to split the united states after the war (provided they won). in short, japan is an honorable country and should be admired by white nationalists

also its nearly monoethnic haha

You do understand that Japan was just as nationalistic towards themselves as Germany, right? They only joined the Axis Powers because they had common enemies and they thought they would win. The Nazis didn't fucking give a shit about Japan and vise versa, otherwise. If anything, Hitler would have tried to find a way to fuck them over if they won.

this. i was too kek'd up to respond.

i dont know mane.. proper hiphop heads appreciate the finer details of the genre and dont just judge it from beats and structures. the more youre into it the more differences you pick out.
it all depends on the artists you listen to

>Its actually kind of like enjoying classical
>Steve Reich

That's actually insulting and resulted in me experiencing physical pain. Maybe listen to more classical music or get your ears checked.

...

not true, my friend. perhaps you should learn your history a little better. japan and germany agreed to split the united states into two "zones" following the war. I believe japan wanted the western us and germany wanted the eastern us. not sure where canada factors into this but that's the deal they struck

I suffer from a crippling need to correct my grammar.

>japan and germany agreed to split the united states into two "zones" following the war
Yes, and do you actually fucking think they would have kept that promise, you god damn retard?

Lol do you know that if that it's an actual depiction he was a nigger

lolwut

nigga wat???????

>AUTISM
i'll say

...

probably, hitler was an honorable man and the emporer hirohito was as well. just because in these modern days a handshake means nothing doesn't mean the men wouldn't have kept their promise

You probably don't know how I recognized it, don't you?

Also this is constanza in your picture.

yeah he's not my favorite composer, I was just using him as an example of someone outside of rap who also works a lot with polyrhythms

like, do you get the appeal of polyrhythms? do you get the appeal of syncopation?

then you get rap

The problem about rap for me is that genre is that is pretty much focused on the lyrical aspect of the music.

Since English is not my maternal language, it's pretty hard for me to put my attention on the subtilities of the English language in the songs.

That's why I'm way more attracted to melodies and all other aspects of other genres of music.

>it takes being a foreigner to understand that hip hops is essentially amusical
nice going, Sup Forumstants

you're not wrong btw

how can OP enjoy AIDS

I'm not an ameriburger who has to deal with niggily coons on the daily so they're alright by me
If I was getting btfo by the knockout game on the daily I guess I'd make threads like this too

>probably, hitler was an honorable man
Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact

OK Guys, listen me. I'm Italian so sorry if I make some mistake. But I have to tell this. I have to tell you that rap is total shit. I speak as an italian, trying to understand what the fuck this people says in their songs is overwhelming and you give up! The flaw of this music is that is not about the music, but about those fucking high-speed-americanculture lyrics!
But listen me, I'm a HUGE fun of english music, actually I only listen to foreign music, but with that fuckin rap the thing is different. I can not appreciate this music. It's only a fuckin bass with some drums and loop always the same and a persone rapping or singing like a gay on it. That's not music.
Oh, I have tryed to listen to some rap, I actually enjoyed some, in which the MUSIC as a very important aspect, like some songs of "Run The Jewels", and maybe just one song from "Kendrick Lamaar". Not talking about rap but talking about experimental hip-hop, I do love Death Grips. Wonder why? Because they make music! I don't have to understand every single word they say to enjoy the catchy moment in Ex-Military and The Money Store. I barely know the lyrics! But I know what they talk about. It's about blowjobs, drugs, and McRide inner darkness, and that's so fucking amazing!
So you know what I think of people like you that constatly open threads about Kanye West and other shit rappers? That you are so fucking self-centered in your culture that you actually forget ABOUT THE MUSIC.
Maybe persons like you don't even like music, that's why you listen to rap, because you get along with the lyrics and you have an excuse to listen to music, when in fact you don't know ANYTHING of what actually an instrument is or what emotions can gives certain chords profression, crescendos, or memorable melody.
Your fucking rap is shit, that's all it is.

You're not wrong, but give Kanye another listen, because his music is far better than his rapping in most cases.

pretty true. hip-hop is inherently non-musical. practically nobody gets into rap or hip hop because they really love music. if they did, they would actually invest some time into learning about music. its pop-level bullshit where 99% of the talent is not the guy who's name is on the album cover. a small number of the guys who make the tracks are legit talented, and only a few small handful of rappers actually have any kind of vocal talent, creative, technical, or lyrical. this is a simple fact and anybody who denies it had either no structured thoughts about music and/or has the delusion of a teenager.

NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY who is a legitimate (not pop) and long-time (over the age of 30) musician takes hip hop seriously or even listens to it for pleasure. it is drivel of the lowest common denominator, even lower than most top 40 pop.

>a small number of the guys who make the tracks are legit talented, and only a few small handful of rappers actually have any kind of vocal talent, creative, technical, or lyrical.
literally applies to every genre ever
also how many hip-hop albums have you heard

You're all assholes

I just want to like what I like, but you fags keep belittling a genre cause it isn't a genre you like.

also
>death grips is hip hop
>music isnt about lyrics
>run the jewels is hip hop
this is just another " I hate Hip Hop because it isn't_____" thread and we cant do anything about it because you guys are all fags that happen to have opinions that differentiate .

Rap is what vocal jazz should have been

A rap verse is like a jazz solo.

I know exactly how this is going to go.

"NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY who is a legitimate (not pop) and long-time (over the age of 30) musician takes hip hop seriously or even listens to it for pleasure."

"musicians X Y and Z take hip hop seriously"

>"musicians X, Y and Z"
>"legitimate"

>the voice isn't an instrument
Rhythmic talking is a musical device

It's a tradition that stretches back to African chants and talking blues into R&B into rap and it will never leave because it's an essential part of black musical tradition.

surprised the kanye army didn't just tackle you

People who are so "culturally aware" and "open to different perspectives". Hip-Hop is shit and unrelatable music. If you can relate to what's being said you're a degenerate moron. The music itself is not memorable enough and while sometimes it might be creative there is no genuine passion behind a lot of hip-hop instrumentals. It's just trendy music.

This

>he allowed himself to be retarded by pop/rock
I bet you like the Beatles and don't even listen to blues and free jazz

My problem with rap isn't with the mechanical structures upon which rap sits, the rhythms, the rhyming etc etc, I can understand perfectly how it would all work together to make something great.

My problem as such is the content of most rap that I have been exposed to, using a clause here that states ive not gone looking, this may just be "pop" rap i'm talking about. The content of most rap that i've heard goes like such

>A song about committing crimes and how good it feels

>A song about banging as many women as possible and how good it feels

>A song about taking/dealing as many drugs as possible and how good it feels

Then there will be:

>A song about how hard it is to be gangsta and how misunderstood the artist is
>A song about how much better the artist is than everyone else because he sees the gritty grimy truth of the streets and rises above it
>A song about returning to the streets because that's the best life

Periodically someone gets shot.

The music is fine, there's nothing WRONG with it, it all makes sense and it's easy to see why people would enjoy it but I just don't see why i'd want to listen to content like that?

If you're a lyrical genius, prove it. Rhyming about how many ho's you've bopped and how many niggas you've popped again and again and again is ridiculous.

>u dun unnerstan man, u ain from da streetz

>It's a tradition that stretches back to African chants

So niggers invented talking?

Jesus christ you people are reaching now.

if a rapper wants to release an album for profit, he has to get clearance for all of the album's samples directly from the owner of what they sampled

stop talking out of your ass

>Musicality is not a primary concern of any hip hop act

yes it is, how would it not be? rappers want to make good music

>Anyone who has a hip hop album in their top 100 doesn't really care about music.

that's one of the most fucking retarded things I've ever heard.

where do anti-rap people even go to learn about music? half the shit they claim can be debunked by literally reading wikipedia

you like rap -> you like rap
you like rock -> you like rock
...etc.
so fuck you talking shit

>make condescending comment about *insert music genre here*
>guaranteed replies
