I made this chart. Since ITAOTS is so circlejerked, I tried finding some similar albums in sound, or narrative. I'm not familiar with the full discography of all these artists, so some of them may not be the best choice. Any suggestions?

On Avery Island would probably be the best starting place.
Yes, but it's self evident that if you liked one NMH album, you'd listen to the their other stuff.
To be fair Avery Island is really barely anything like ITAOTS
you forgot one desu

Hm, if I make another soon, I'll add it. While it's a different type of sound, much more of a shoegaze-inspired sound, rather than lo-fi folk, it definitely retains some of the same type of flow.
I posted it more for the fact because its very much alike ITAOTS in the concept aspect and the emotional rollercoaster that it brings. Some songs are bright and cheerful (even though the the lyrics are depressing as all hell) and some songs are heart breaking all the way through.

GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE OVEN
where's the template for this?
I see this type of chart often here.
Any chart for noisy shoegaze/noise pop?
If not, can we create one?
>no shellac
what are you doing
I have three
take your pick

But i want a new chart with obscure albums that sound like Ambient Shoegaze/Ambient Noise, not a chart full of the same 20 shugazi albums.
well fuck, why didn't you say that initially?
you just now decided to get specific?
anyway, I don't have anything like that
I do like shugazi threads for that kinda stuff because some of the people who participate are into lesser known stuff and can offer recommendations
...
>no lowercase
any for some garage rock/freakbeat/psych kinda stuff? I've done a lot of the major releases and compilations but wanna see if I missed anything.
What happened with /shugazi/ anyway?
>no codeine
this song could have been on spiderland, and nobody would have thought twice
youtube.com
not really sure
I see shoegaze threads every so often, but they're much fewer and far between than they used to be
I'ma make one now.
ew wtf
requesting that one warm drone chart
it's on there ya doofus
...
niandra lades and usually just a t-shirt should be on there somewhere, both very similar albums
...
oh shit sorry
if you had to pick one row to listen to forever, which one would you choose? i'd personally pick the marijuana one
delete that Jordaan Mason album, it is a meme and I don't ever want to see it again
Starvation or sleeping pills.
This is a fantastic idea OP; people complain about Sup Forumscore being a circlejerk, and this is a great way of actually getting people into other stuff.
I love the mountain goats, anais and OTC, but you should stick to one album per person.
Meme albums like jordaan mason don't merit a slot either. I admit to having a profound personal bias against that album specifically, but I digress.
Julian Koster's stuff is underrated, and this album specifically has the same emotional qualities people like about NMH.
This is a bit odd, but I like a guy in the /bandcamp/ threads and think he might be worthy of being put on the chart. Even Oxen - Arrayed Above the Seraphim Lights.
Anyone got the shoegaze chart that starts with Loveless, Nowhere, and Souvlaki and branches off from there?
spoonfeeding people different albums isn't the answer, even if they are decent recommendations
>no Cerberus Shoal S/T
was gonna post it until that dude said he didn't want the same old shit
>people actually knowing about cerberus shoal wtf wow
you from maine or something?
no, someone in a last.fm thread told me about them

giant post punk and surrounding genres chart
it's a nice little resource to have when I wanna find something new or rediscover something
In regards to Jordaan mason, why is it considered a meme album?

That first album art looks INSANELY familiar
>Loveliescrushing into Faunts
That doesn't seem right to me.
blackened post punk section when
based
...
reminiscent of yanqui imo
I saved this a while ago.
Anybody know any decent blackened post-punk other than Lifelover and Amesoeurs?
It was popularized mostly through spamming, so there's will toledo-style backlash There.
However, the reason i dislike it is how it tries to ape Jeff's songwriting, while having only the shallowest understanding of it. Jeff's Songwriting.
From the first time he opens his mouth, the overbearing and juvenile vocal style (which detracts from, rather than adds to, the emotional impact of the music, as in ITAOTS's case), the artless grotesque sexual references, because Jeff talked about semen and ovaries so we have to as well.
"Jordaan Mason" doesn't understand that Jeff portrays sex grotesquely to illustrate how it's used for or is the result of abuse of power; Jordaan's lyricism uses sex with all the nuance and "art" of a 21-year-old coed convincing herself she's a "model," not a porn star.
I forgot my main point: Divorce Lawyers, as I outlined above, is insincerity masquerading as sincerity; in thoughtlessly mimicing a deeply-felt artistic statement like ITAOTS, it is thus shallower, and more insidious, than it would've been if he'd just done a generic pop album.

is that just because of Jason Noble? they don't sound like slint at all aside from some brief moments
Hah holy shit how'd I forget.
It's the same somber, Louisville mood. I figure it counts enough in that regard.
eh
i guess that's alright
Wow this chart is awful
Are these just your favorite albums, or what are they supposed be. Similar to what?
>Slint_core
Whoops, saw the file name, nevermenind
Better? Are there any artists that have better albums within their discographies that I should swap? Any that should be taken out altogether? What should I put in instead?
