SPACE COLONIZATION RACE IS ON

The EMDrive technology has been confirmed to work by NASA:
sciencealert.com/it-s-official-nasa-s-peer-reviewed-em-drive-paper-has-finally-been-published
EMDrive is a propellantless thrust engine that can keep accelerating a spaceship indefinitely.
Second generation superconducting EMDrives have been tested to be 10^6 more efficient than the 15-years-old design tested by NASA:

Space exploration and colonization will accelerate exponentially now. The race to colonize and rule the galaxy is on.

Fugg

Peer review usually only checks the methodology, not the actual raw science and the veracity of the results

it probably can travel at about 20% of speed of light

Cool!

>yuropoors would rather put their taxes towards sheltering Abdula and his family, rather than invest in their space programs

...

Portals is the only true answer.

>1.2 ± 0.1 mN/kW

aaaaand was fucking nothing

It wasn't confirmed to work and it won't be until they send the cubesat.

...

It's been known to generate thrust for a long time. Not much, but if the principle can be improved upon then it could actually be useful.
Still, you are right. Not like this is going to jump start some intergalactic space race or something anytime soon.

>race

it wont work, its ridiculous

It does work

The amount of thrust it generates is pathetic, but it what matters is that it does generate thrust

Can't lie, that was pretty cool.

Try 3.2 tonnes / kW then, this is addressed in the opening post.

It's already worked, it was tested in a vacuum, there will be no difference in space.

...

The test was far from foolproof and there are still hundreds of untested variables, many other tests happened before with wildly varying results too so it's impossible to say if it really works until it actually moves in space without shedding a single atom.

Huh, nice.
Is /sci/ BTFO'd by this? Last time I went there they were all unanimously saying that nothing would come of it, and that it's impossible.

Only 20 years to the nearest star! Even if this actually works it will never be an interstaller community, it would be distant settlements that that can only talk to each other once a century (or more)

Hopefully the potential to travel fast distances will give some life into studying potential FTL communication methods?

>Portals
What do you know of them?

Spill

Hopefully by the time we're ready to truly colonize the galaxy, we'd know a thing or two about generating wormholes.
