Goes without saying.
How is OPN less of a meme than Aphex Twin?
No it doesnt you silly pard
>implying that aphex isn't pardner bait
>implying OPN isn't tumblr bait
Isn't the early 2010's NY synth scene dead along time ago?
OPN is the best solo electronic musician right now. Name a better one.
Aphex Twin
Burial, but OPN and Aphex are both great
I'll maybe give you Burial, but he hasn't had a lot of high quality output in a while.
That's probably because he hardly puts anything out these days, Temple Sleeper was great imo, but I agree if you're referring to Sweetz
But Sweetz is like 95% Zomby and Zomby sucks
The ambient undertones on Sweetz were great.
Exactly, I'm sure Burial was the one behind that
Yeah, I just hope he brings out something new for Untrue's 10th anniversary.
This is pretty great IMO (though not as good as his solo work)
That'd be amazing, the s/t and Untrue are my number 1 and 2 favorite albums, respectively. Another album would be amazing
Name one composition OPN did that is on par with ANY of Richard's work. Just one.
Child of Rage
I don't think you can directly compare their work, though. I'd consider it mostly separate genres.
never got the appeal of Burial. His music sounds like generic house to me
I like OPN mostly for his avant garde and vaporwavy stuff
Generic house? I've never heard a track by him with a steady 4x4 beat, except for maybe Raver or something
>generic house
what?
Aphex could copy any of OPN's tricks if he wanted to.
OPN would have a brain brain aneurysm trying to reproduce something like Ziggomatic 17, a track at least 14 years old.
Sorry, but
>new age synth pads
>muh arpeggios
>vapez
>collage/concrete
just aren't that impressive. OPN got to where he is as a result of meme coverage (P4K, Wire, etc) and a cliquey local music scene.
The Pretender and Blue Drive are nice tracks tho
Tim Hecker.
I'd disagree. OPN's "tricks" aren't his design patterns; it's his sense of rhythm and texture. The vaporwave/collage/new wave things are purely aesthetic and can be swapped with anything (e.g. GoD mostly uses different tropes.). Listen to some of the songs OPN's produced for other people.
The only thing maybe critical there is the arps, but he doesn't use those in a conventional way, either, and forwent arps for many songs on GoD.
RDJ also has an amazing sense of rhythm, but I don't think he has any experience making an OPN-style track. I think he would struggle very much trying to make one. Similarly, OPN would probably struggle trying to make an Aphex Twin track.
Also great, but I feel like OPN partly took what he was doing and innovated on it.
OPN himself admitted in interviews that he has trouble composing rhythms.
Arca
Dean Blunt
James Ferraro
Link?
Even if he did say that, he must be pretty ignorant of how incredibly good he is at it, then. 80% of the appeal in his music is the rhythms.
more sensible comparison would be opn / ae and even danny boy admits he's inferior compared to the champs
he shows promise. i like the fact he changes up his style regularly, like a callback to 90s idm producers having a different sound every other release. he should bring breakbeats back. if anyone is going to make go plastic v2, it's dan desu.
>But Sweetz is like 95% Zomby and Zomby sucks
dat damage control
Rival Dealer, Temple Sleeper and now Sweetz have proven to us that Burial is way past his prime.
>generic house
Looks like the reason you don't get Burial is that you're a retard mate
