Its alright, just a bit monotonous. Its also a bit uninspiring in terms of the mix, make your kick a bit bigger if you can. I would also find a better shaker sample, if its playing all the way through you want it to be good quality and that one just sounds like a 128 mp3.
Landon Ramirez
Definitely noted. Thanks for the feedback.
Aiden Young
>clyp.it/uy0oojix I actually kind of like this. Sounds like it would fit in a game very well. A puzzle game actually. clyp.it/cbtko5z2 I remastered this so everythign would sit better. clyp.it/tfig4ve4 this ones another try at the lofi
Levi Thompson
anyone have a link to a nexus crack? I want to try it before I buy it. Sytrus synths just arent doing it for me.
Adam Stewart
Nice post OP. I'm starting a small home studio myself. These are good resources for learning.
I have a standalone system that consists of a Panasonic MDA-1 ADAT (amazing recorder) and a Studiomaster gold series 16-8-16 (with an expansion). They both sound amazing. Only thing I need now is a good monitoring setup.
Does anyone have an opinion on good entry level nearfield set ups? Any favorite speakers and amps?
William Peterson
What's the best synth for a poorfag who wants a Minimoog?
Lincoln Bell

I want a hardware synth

Anyone got any good tips for how to make a nice boombap bass sound? A lot of the stuff I've seen says to use a tuned sin wave with a low pass and some saturation but it just sounds so meh. It has all the sub but none of the warmth.
Thomas White
anybody know a good resource for acapellas? i've been wanting to sample vocals similar to bjork/imogen heap/madonna lately but the only way i've consistently been able to get full tracks with no instrumentals is youtube-to-mp3 and i'd really like some higher quality rips
Aiden Garcia
how do i make low ends less muddy and farty, and more tight, punchy and clear and not take up the rest of the sound?
all i have is a shitty 25$ computer speaker/sub setup and ath-m20's if that makes a difference
Andrew Jackson
compression
Parker Bailey
what's your setup like? I usually just use an EQ Three and turn the low-end gain down if it's too much (im using Ableton 9)
Kevin Richardson
Shaping your EQ so that everything has a place, and then using good compression techniques on top of that. Honestly though a good monitoring setup is pretty damn necessary in terms of mixing.
Ian Peterson
im thinking about buying ableton, but i also downloaded the pirate bay top torrent for it im just paranoid itll virus fuck up my shit. Someone in the comments said it had a bitcoin miner.
Risk it for the pirate? Buy for 99$? Use reaper instead?
Nolan Nguyen
if its the one by d33p57a7u5 you're good. just gotta run the crack before you run ableton for the first time then disable updates once it's open, otherwise the crack won't work (you can just reinstall it if this happens)
Brody Bell
yep, im goin for it, worse case is just restore to a couple days ago
Evan Myers
i have my low ends (and almost everything else)usually set up with EQ's and a filter. (all i use are fl studio stock mix effects) I try to be precise with EQing low ends in general but it always comes out sounding like shitty hums or cardboard-y sounding. but then again i dont know jack shit about getting the compression right so its most likely that.
>tfw buddy comes over and tries to create a song with me
Did it work?
Bentley Garcia
It's important to have the volume envelopes changing to avoid the "hum" effect. You don't want bass to be playing all the time, it's more like rhythmic bursts.
best plugin for drum machine? or a drum machine you can put your own samples in?
Kevin Cox
working on an r&b song. already got the vocals melody figured out but not the lyrics yet. took the vocals track off so you can just imagine that (probably a girl singing) and any feedback or critique on the beat would be much appreciated.
Posted this in the last thread and got some helpful comments about the kick not hitting hard enough and the hats not fitting the rest of the sound. Thanks, I'm working on it. Someone else chipped in and said it was fucking shit but didn't give any advice... If anyone else shares this opinion please let me know why. This isn't my usual style of beat, I'm trying to make something for the radio and I know it needs a lot of work. Will go thru and give feedback later.
Adam Parker
drum rack...you have much to learn
Luke Wood
eq3 colours the sound. Play the sound with eq3 on, then off and compare them. Start using eq8
i like it man, sounds really pleasing, however the hi hats are a bit too much, either turn them down a good bit or remove them outright, especially in the beginning. they fit in a lot better towards the end though
Isaac Gomez
Made this earlier on my MPC, not sure if I should keep going with it or just scrap it clyp.it/zqjhftbw
Liam Jones
Exactly what I was going to say. Drum rack m8. Learn to use it.
I also have a TR-8 for the hardware side of things.
Nothing sounds as nice as just working things for yourself.
Jose King
What's a good turntable for sampling? Like the kind most people use in beat making videos that you can turn it backwards to get specific sounds
Connor Phillips
clyp.it/plxac5sr I'm liking how my afternoons work is coming along, but I know that in a few hours I'm going to think it's silly
I say continue, but that gate effect is obnoxious
Samuel Baker
SL1200
Ian Hill
It's a synth sequenced via midi so I'll just fuck with the settings some more
Maybe layer the drums a bit to give it more flare, and change up the pattern as well. I like the synths and the stringy drone sound in the background, keep building off those
Henry Wood
>not a group with instrument racks with samplers
Wyatt Mitchell
Does it sound like that or what
John Butler
Risk it, ableton is like 600£, take it like you are subletting your machine to russians for the ableton money, or install all the shit on a not networked machine, virus are not cool anymore, botnets are, but you cant call home for instructions if there are no lines
Ryan Young
Hi! New to these threads, but just curious if the glitch on the first part of is a bit much for other peoples' ears:
tfw you add up all the money you've spent on gear through your music career and realise you have way too much shit
Dylan Ross
How do I do this? The crack didn't do anything I still need the authorization file
Jaxson Hughes
hey guys, first time posting here. i just recently got into production (i know that i'm really bad!), but i'd love some feedback on this. don't really know what to do with it, it needs direction.
Forgive my ignorance, but I want to start creating music. I've only composed on paper (using Noteflight on a school computer), and I'm starting from scratch. I will use the posted links, but where should I go to find the type of computer/equipment/programs I'll need to record and produce? If I'll be accomodated by the links, I'd like to know beforehand because I don't have any resources right now and want to get that down before moving onto learning how to do things I'm incapable if actually doing. "Lurk more" or "go away are fine answers; I just didn't see anything from browsing the catalog or peeking through the links.
Jace Lee
Try this: instead of having the main part go "ringating ting ting ring bing bing" on repeat, have it go "tingating tingating ringaling badabing bing bing" while "rumpapum pum pum pum" part goes mute for a moment. You can't have your song all samey like that dude, you need more change. Variation is the salt and pepper of life after all.
Logan Johnson
i commented on your clyp
William Parker
Thank you for your feedback! Is there anythin you need listened to?
Carter Robinson
yes, actually! feedback would be greatly appreciated (you can stop listening after around 2 minutes)
I started with Ableton, but picked FL for the sequencer/midi editor. Try downloading some different ones and just play around until you find something you like.
As for equipment, you could jump right in with a cheap midi controller like an M-Audio 49-key, and some cheap Sennheiser headphones. A Novation launchpad is really good for triggering clips/effects and/or setting up a custom keyboard. Hope the helped :D
Julian Gutierrez
>I like the synths and the stringy drone sound in the background that's good to hear, I was becoming unsure of whether or not it was ok sounding
watcha think /moo/? i left it with a big overhead but its still discernable i made it in 12 hours straight last night, so it still needs a work, specially the hi-hat/snare lines
Leo Watson
liked it a lot man, is that an autobeat? maybe only critic would be move the range so it repeats on different parts as it keeps going
Levi Cooper
>auto beat *beat repeat
Angel Johnson
i really liked the texture a lot
i would layer an extra low to that kick, and make the clap? sound change more as the track grows, maybe lfo filter it, also put up the vol for the pad, and make the metallic bowl? sound less panned, like 25 - 30% less so it still goes from ear to ear but it leaves some trail for the other
also would give it a bit more drum variation specially in the kick kinda growing from 4/4 to sth more syncopated, i would keep it growing upping some reverb+delay until it got really groovy and then leave the pad with maybe a high filtered kick and make it grow again with a new layer of sound that fits the texture
Charles Collins
I'd add more hats and maybe some toms. otherwise, that ain't a bad start.
Ian Hernandez
yeah. it's two different dblue glitch patterns. definitely gotta work on my editing skills to do anything better, sadly.
thanks for the feedback! anything for you?
Camden Ramirez
Put more tape/tube saturation on it?
Stereo separation on 41% at 86 Hz and pan ir hard right, add reverb to taste.
You don't need a special computer to produce desu, but better CPU, RAM, HDD helps. With that get some external audio card so you can record and plug monitors. As far as plugins go look at Kontakt.
The SECOND you start to dislike one of your tracks, put it on the back burner for like a week and don't listen to it at all. Start a new project in the meantime, preferably something in a completely different genre. Once you start getting tired of the second one, go back to the first one.
I'll go back every once in a while and listen to some of the first songs I ever made (about 7 or 8 years ago). At the time I made them, I hated them but after not hearing them for years, I actually think they're half decent.
Forgot to add: This is the second drop of a track I'm currently working on (I always try to make the second drops in my songs different from the first drop, but not TOO different). Anyway, does this "flow" nicely (specifically parts 0:26 through 0:30 and 0:53 though 0:55)?
If you need the first drop to compare it to, let me know.
>clyp.it/yz30a4ay the filter on the drums triggers me super hard. they sound weak, and it almost phases them out in a few spots
Jackson Cox
clyp.it/rb51vjwp how is my bass? not sure if it's leveled right it looked and sounded to me, but mixer bars and 10$ earbuds aren't super accurate.
Andrew Perry
Hello /prod/, total amateur here.
There's this song I'd absolutely love to have the vocals removed at any cost, is there any way for me to do this even If the result is not perfect or just decent or should I just mail the artist and pray for him to send me an unaltered version of the specified song? I'll add that this is a very specific genre, so really just about all frequency are used so using a pass band would really destroy the song.
I'll admit that I'm willing to spend much time on it if there is a long and tedious way I can do it.
It's a pain because the instrumental is really good but the vocals makes me want to scream and throw my headphones trough the window, it's like getting to eat the best thing in the world while getting pounded by a big ass nigga in the meantime, which really isn't comfy at all.
Camden Turner
You'll have to beg, because I'm not sure how to do that one. I personally have only like 2 instrumentals out there of my own songs (that have vocals).
Robert Baker
Hey guys, just started working on music and I'm really interested in it.
Every cunt on earth has those KRK Rokits with the yellow speaker cones, I've never listened to them IRL but the Presonus ones have a more accurate frequency response, I got the E8s which are far bigger than I need but they sound fucking excellent.
Logan Morris
There are tricks to remove vocals, depending on how things are panned. Split the track into two mono tracks and then invert the polarity of one of the tracks. In audacity, just use the "invert" effect. Or put on a plugin that has a polarity switch, like pic related
It's not often that doing this will completely remove a vocal but sometimes you can get lucky.
It's pretty low key for the first half, just meant to be rolling with that bassline which I think worked pretty well, then it picks up a bit at the end so just skip to that if you can't be bothered waiting for it.
Kevin Nguyen
If you can get the the vocals, you could put it on the track and reverse the polarity, or you can try some stereo shaper and try to mute them but that will probably fuck up the track and they are probably dead center etc, so you would just fuck up the song.
Easton Foster
Sounds pretty nice but its lacking high end, that snare especially needs a bit, maybe layer a light clap on it or something if you can't fix it with EQ.
And the hats sound shit, did you eq all the mids out of them or is that just how the sample sounds? Might also be more obvious because it's not really sharing that frequency range with anything else to colour the sound, I think just use a different sample though that one is too hissy and ruins the chill vibe a bit.
Nice composition though should sound good once you have tweaked it a little more.
Luke Moore
/prod/ pls
I have no words...
This is actually pretty dope. There's a few parts though that are out of key and a few of the synth patches don't really work with the rest of the track (namely, 1:35 through 1:54 and the outro).
Ian Mitchell
What is most transparent EQ? I use Ozone on the analog setting and it still seems to give me a very digital sounding harshness when I boost highs, or am I just a fucking retard?
Jace Perez
>This is actually pretty dope. There's a few parts though that are out of key and a few of the synth patches don't really work with the rest of the track (namely, 1:35 through 1:54 and the outro).
That was meant for
Juan Powell
use one with a linear phase setting like fab q2 and check again if you still hear something going on then it's in your material
Cameron Ortiz
both ;)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Lucas Lopez
Nobody ever likes those obnoxious synths, they are my favourite.
Luis Morris
Here is my tropic electronica made in less than a hour.
Whoa, thanks man! Ahh, I like the Synths but if they don't sound right I'll try to tweak them.
Elijah Gutierrez
Why is Cashmere cat famous?
Ryder Lee
It rapes the song and doesn't even remove in the slightest the vocals.
Any way to do it manually? I said that it doesn't matter how much time I spend on it so if anything exists let me know please.
Elijah Richardson
Not tropical enough but pretty good for only an hour's work. I tried to make some tropical stuff at one point. I don't like it anymore. >clyp.it/xnr0dh5p
They're just so harsh compared to the other synths, but if you like them, leave them. It's your music.
David Rivera
Right place, right time? Clever marketing? Maybe he won a remix contest for a really famous artist and it got put in with the song's single album? I dunno.
