Anyone else struggling with an instrument?

>I just picked up piano again after only learning the basics almost a decade ago and there's just something about reading sheet music that I just don't get. Even basic sheets.

well what is it you don't get?

I get that keys go C D E F G A B but it always trips me up that on sheets the notes go like [F]E[A]G[C]B[E]DFA and honestly I don't even know if that's right anymore.

well you've got it a bit twisted but think about the music in terms of intervals rather than just notes and sight reading will be a bit easier. Start with very very very easy music and only move on to slightly more challenging music if you can sight-read it near perfectly the first time.

Sight reading piano music is one of the most difficult things you can do so don't expect to get good at it over night. If it were easy everyone would do it.

Alright thanks for the advice. I'l try that out and use some note identification apps a bit to get better.

>[F]E[A]G[C]B[E]DFA
Uhhh... No. There's your problem.

They go [A]B[C]D[E]F[G]...

try playing by ear a bit maybe

learning to play straight from sheet music just takes lots of practice.

Yeah i'm really confused evidently. I'm getting a bunch of misinformation I guess.

Just got the joke btw

"something" that you don't "get"?

so you dont know how to read music? be more specific

Uh... I didn't.

Sorry forgot to put it in the post.

What are you even talking about, user?

These notes I wrote into Sibelius here are:
C D E F G A B C D E F G A B C.

It's perfectly straight forward.

That wasn't an alphabet pun? See how retarded I am when it comes to this? I forgot absolutely everything and most online resources are still confusing me.

Uhhh no.
You should probably start again from the start, and either get a teacher to walk you through it, or else (at the very least) learn it in a more structured way than random Googling will teach it, because you are very confused.

I keep seeing shit like this. I used this program called flowkey and it taught me this too but other resources provided different info.

Agreed. At this point I'm just gonna get a book.

user you're so confused, you started making me confused. Go get some music theory lessons, so you can learn the basics - scales, arpeggios, chords, keys, triads, etc.

M8, that's bass cleft.

Try musictheory.net for some note identification exercises.

Except bass cleft technically starts on G.

>cleft

Alright I've used that a little bit before. I'll get a beginner book and use musictheory.net to help my learning. Thanks a lot everyone sorry for my retardation.
